A discussion on Fish Synchro OTK

Recommended Posts

coelacanth came out a long ass time before synchros even existed.

It came out in Phantom Darkness. Synchros came out in Duelist genesis' date=' they are only 2 sets away from each other.

The problem is with the Deck is its main boss being Level 7 with no Special Summon effect, thats why its not commonly played

True, but you can use with ALO.

True, but you can use with Mausoleum....Big Wave Small Wave if you wanna Push it...

ALO messes up the levels for synchronizing.

2 sets IS a longass time. especially if they're the sets between synchros and not synchros. the game changed pretty dramatically overnight.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Konami probably planned the design of Synchros and Tuners in advance

And royal swamp eel.... well that just has no excuse

it's purely speculation to argue one way or another that coelacanth or any other pre-synchro card was designed with synchros in mind.

and if it was planned out, you'd think they would have released fish tuners earlier. took them till... crimson crisis (right?) to get out swamp eel.

and even then, swamp eel is a perfectly balanced card. hell, coelacanth isnt even an unbalanced card. neither is oyster, fishborg or sunfish. they just work together to form a really broken synergy.

it's the synchros themselves that are to blame. there are too many overpowered, idiotic synchros like stardust, black rose, brio, goyo, mist and oh i just named my entire extra deck.

funk this game.

Royal Swamp Eel was a TCG exclusive until its inclusion on Extra Pack 2...so it is not like that...you know...

TCG exclusive are meant to help somehow to the popular archetypes of the TCG....so is our meta's fault ATM...not all the game's

After the release of Brionac, Fish Synchro became worthy of OTKs again. All you need is mausoleum or star blast, coelacanth. One of the synchros has to be 2900 or more (Like red dragon archfiend), the other is Brionac. Use Brionac to clear the field and:

2800 + 3000 + 2300 = 8100

Like Tronta said, broken synergy by balanced cards.

so youd advocate..

coel->swamp+swamp+7colors+sunfish

unfortunately, what you forget is the hand cost:

mauso/star->coel is a hand cost of 2. coel's effect is another hand cost of 1.

assuming a starting hand 6, you spend half your advantage on the combo already. then you spend the last 3 bumping 3 cards. it isn't unreasonable to assume <=3 cards on your opponents side of the field first turn, however if they chain a roar, bottomless, or anything really, they'll funk your sheet up harder than a pinecone up the ass. overextending that hard is really a bad play. if they manage to funk you up with a set card or a gorz play, next turn they lightning vortex for game.

it's a situational otk. the best way to do fish synchro is not to swing for the otk, but to go for big, multi-purpose swings. wait for them to expend advantage throwing out a big monster or something, then poc->coel->oyster+swamp+swamp+7colors->ancientfairy+catastor+7colors. the function of coelacanth is to generate field advantage very quickly, which can translate into easy control plays like brio/goyo+stardust. even double stardust, cuz fuckit. if you play conservatively while generating rapid advantage you can easily overwhelm your opponent. if you just make reckless plays you can trip and suffer for it.

also, moray is mediocre. the best thing to hit this deck type was genex undine and sunfish.
