Davok
He chained Fenrir in a cave' date=' but he knew that the collar would break during Ragnarok.[/quote']Â And your assuming that the Gods didn't chain him up pretty tight in the first place? The problem is, no matter how much the Gods tried to chain up those bad guys, Ragnarok would still be inevitable.

Skuldur
No. The point is that Odin went to a prophet during the early days of the earth and asked her about the future. She told him all about Ragnarok and who would kill who and Odin didn't kill the bad guys when he had the chance, instead he waited for them to come and kill him and the other gods. He killed Loki, yet he escaped. He (maybe, I dunno, need to brush up on my Norse mythology) killed Fenrir, yet he escaped. So basically, there wasn't really much Odin could do. CrabHelmet
Oh, yes. Because attempting to avert prophecies always works so well in mythology. Like the time they tried to save Baldr from death, but forgot to give him invulnerability to mistletoe. Pretty much the whole point of Norse mythology is accepting that Ragnarok is inevitable and being heroic anyhow. PrometheusMFD
It seems to me that all mythology is based around a god (or gods or God (there is a difference)) trapping a melevolent force rather than destroying it, due to the fact that it will cause the end of the earth/universe
