Why can't Americans make decent comedy sitcoms that arent animated?

I don't know, there's Malcom, Friends, Scrubs, Boston Legal (even though it's more Drama). If you'll notice all the ones I've listed bar Friends (the original American staged comedy) don't have a live audience and I think that shows something about quality. There's probably more but they're the only ones I've seen and like.

lol, live audience was popular in the 90's. Went away afterward. I'm not saying I don't lol at a lot of American shows, it's just that the comedy in them is a little less-than-subtle.
