[K] Fan Fic Character Deck Contest 3! - Results Posted! Sending Prizes!

Recommended Posts

This contest looks at 3 categories:

[1] Cards / [2] A Compiled Deck / [3] A well thought out character

with these three things in perfect balance, you can win this contest and take a place in my Fan Fiction, Transcending Caliginosity, which i will be updating soon. The reason for the contest is that i will be needing new characters, which i will add into the storyline sporadically, and i would like to involve the members of out forum in my fan fic to make it as realistic as possible.

Written cards are accepted in this contest.
Guidlines]

[1] Cards

to get a high score in this category, you need to adhere to this point system:

Concept. your cards need to be something new. you can add cards you have already created or cards that are brand new just for this contest. The cards must be custom from this site. [5/10]

Presentation. you need to have your cards looking pretty. i will be adding the cards into the fan fic, so if you want your card to be known to be yours, you should have it written on the card. it should have good art, though that is the least of my worries. However, if you have a good idea that is written and you wish to enter in this contest, please do. just give a description of the monster. [5/10]

[2] A Compiled Deck

to get a high score in this category, you need to adhere to this point system:

A balanced deck. you can add as many cards as you want into it, it just has to be realistic, ie. no more than 3 of any particular card. you can add real cards into your deck to enhance the realisticness of your deck. in this regard, your real cards must adhere to Advanced Format Limited/Banned Lists. [7/10]

A theme. it would be nice if you told me the theme you wanted to go for, like telling me the overall strategy of the deck. try to have all your cards fit together in a nice blend. [3/10]

[3] A well thought out character.

to get a high score in this category, you need to adhere to this point system:

Name. Something realistic, but isnt too common. please no Joes or Sallys. no "first name only" creations either. just a name. [1/10]

Appearance. tell me what s/he looks like. what they like to wear, what accessories they have, etc.[1/10]

Description. tell me how they think and act. tell me how they get along with others. tell me what their hobbies are. tell me how the like to Duel, etc. [2/10]

Backstory. Tel me how they got to the present, any struggles they had, how they acquired their cards, why they think the way they do, etc. no future concepts, leave that to me. [6/10]

Total

[30/30]

The member with the best score will be placed on top, and the following members will be ranked one step lower, in a row. In the event of a tie, i will decide who's presentation is better based on: • Whether or not i like the concept of the Deck / Character submitted. • How easy of a time i had with viewing the submitted entry. So make it look better than a thrown together entry. Spoilers are nice, just not too many, okay?
Prizes]

[1] 2+reps and his/her character added to my fic, Transcending Caliginosity.

[2] 1+rep + 500 points, and his/her character added to my fic.

[3] 500 points, and his/her character added to my fic.

[4▼] i will choose if their character will be added to my fic.

Newly Added Rules

[1] You can edit, update, or change anything in your entry as much as you like. i just ask that you keep it all in the same post, the original one that you posted with it, and that when you do update your entry that you tell me so.

[2] I changed my mind a little on the presentation: i want you to give a written style of all of your cards. for monsters that means their Name, Attribute, ATK/DEF, Level, and Effect. For Spell and Traps, please include the Name, Type, and Effect. here is a code for what i would like:
for monsters:

[place name here]
[copy this • and paste it here to represent the level]
[in all CAPS write the Attribute here.]
[Type is written here]
[ATK/DEF here]
Now write the effect here.

for spells and traps:

[place name here]
[place type here, (normal, continuous, etc)]
now write the effect here.

thank you for changing you format for this. sorry for the inconvenience.

Woah, cool. Another contest by the amazing Kale!

Well, I won't bore you with the same cards/character as last time. Here is something (somewhat) new. I think i entered it in a different contest, but it should be fine (looks like one of those dead things that attention will never be paid to, so yeah...).

Name: Onika Bakar (Tell me if it's a little too 'out there')

Appearance: 18 years old. Dark brown skin (mother Greek, father African). Rather tall (about 210cm), has black hair and blue eyes. A wiry toughness and has small scars on his arms and his left leg, a large one on the right side, close to his ear from his forehead to his chin. He usually wears colors that blend with the environment, but if not available he'll wear a light blue shirt and jeans. The only trinket he usually wears is a small badge that is a single paper doll made of silver.

Description: Often blunt and to the point with people, dislikes working with others, sees most people as nothing more then obstacles and irritants. Despite this, he can grudgingly accept being in a team. His main hobby is exercise, usually going to a secluded place to do so. Although he occasionally practices on a piano and Duel Monsters. He usually duels harshly, showing no mercy and eliminating every one of his opponent's cards coldly. When his own cards get eliminated, he usually sighs and says 'I suppose he outlived his use, so let's see his replacement.' Usually the main people he respects are the ones who are capable of beyond-human abilities, even if they were used against him.

Backstory: His life started, alas, as an accident during a small battle. His mother Keres Melena was a medic sent to help the Africans from a revolt. She met an injured soldier called Azikiwe Abidemi at the medical camp with minor injuries, and it was "love" at first sight.

The war was over after weeks, but it was discovered that Keres was pregnant. She stayed with Azikiwe for a time, and when Onika was born, they argued over which traditions he should follow. In the end Keres went home and they improvised, the poor boy sent to Africa and back every few months or so to learn about both countries. It turned out to be a poor mix however, and he would be 'softened up' in Greece having an education then battered down in Africa learning to be a soldier. He may have been able to do both, but his parents not getting along didn't help his mental stability. In the end, before he broke, his father died from a vendetta-enraged man while he was in Africa, he was 15 years old.

However, he didn't go back to Greece, instead he continued training to fight, the only thing he kept doing to remember his mother was Duel Monster cards, a leisure at one point became all that remained of his other life.

Meanwhile, the force he was in was in trouble, it was larger then most of the others of the time, but when another riot broke out, guerilla tactics whittled down the amount of troops. Onika was disgusted for a time that so few men could wipe out superior numbers, but then started to respect it. In time, he started to go out on his own, managing to take on groups on his own through luck more then skill, not that he would admit it, and not without injuries.

In the end, the battle ended and Onika began to dislike this country for all it had done (his father's death, numerous wounds), he left without a word, managing to scrounge enough money to get a boat for parts unknown, looking look for a somewhat less violent job then a war zone...

As long as this card remains face-up on the field, you cannot normal summon, flip summon or special summon.

Lone Manipulation

Quick-Play Spell

This card can only be activated when you have only one "Lone Battler" monster on your side of the field and your opponent has at least one monster on their side of the field, control of one of your opponent's monsters shifts to you. Then, send the "Lone Battler" monster to the bottom of your deck. After this effect resolves, your opponent must discard one Spell or Trap card from their hand to the graveyard.

Lone Invasion

Quick-Play Spell

"Lone Battler" monsters cannot be destroyed by card effects Until the end phase of the turn this card is activated. If this face-down card is destroyed and sent to the graveyard, Special Summon one level 6 or less "Lone Battler" monster from your deck.

Dying Cry

Normal Trap

This card can only be activated while you have only one "Lone Battler" on your side of the field and it is destroyed. Special Summon one level 4 or less "Lone Battler" monster from your deck.

Lone Martyr

Desperation Teamwork

Continuous Trap

You can only activate this card while you have 1000 life points or less. Special summon one "Lone Battler" from your deck. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all "Lone Battler" monsters have their effects treated as if they were the only monster on your side of the field, and any Spell Cards that can only be activated if only one Lone Battler is on the field can be activated regardless of conditions.

Decimation Blow

Counter Trap

You can only activate this card when a "Lone Battler" would be effected by a card effect controlled by your opponent. negate the card effect and destroy it, then destroy one monster on your opponent's side of the field.

Lone Mirage

Normal Trap

You can only activate this effect while you control only one "Lone Battler" monster. Special summon one "Lone Mirage" token (4/?/?). The token's attack, defense, Type, Attribute and Effect is the same as the "Lone Battler" monster you had on the field when you activated this card. the "Lone Mirage" Token doesn't count as being on the field for a "Lone Battler" card effect or a card that involves "Lone Battler" monsters. Also, this card's effect is always treated as if it is the only monster on he field.

Equal Tactics

Continuous Trap

If you have more then one monster on your side of the field, negate this effect. As long as your opponent has more then one monster on the field, negate your opponent's monster card effects.

The main tactic is beatdown with a dash of burn and field control. The main weakness is that they only work well alone (a couple of exceptions) and are usually vulnerable to swarm with a card removal or two. I suppose despite the flaw I tried to put in, it might have an OPed card or two still... We'll see I guess.

Well, hope you like it and good luck with your contest!

Holy Moley, an entry already? Well, i wouldnt expect less from you Aelsthla-Mental.. :D you are always very prompt and go all the way with everything you do.. i see you got about 20 new reps since i last saw you. ;)

20 reps? I suppose it has been a while... Such a pity, your fanfic have been missed. Your older and new one.

It was a tad quick, wasn't it? I'll probably tweak it around a bit though, I realized despite what I said about making a new characte his 'family problem' was somewhat similar to the last one... Perhaps different enough, I don't know.

And perhaps the cards need longer effects! They really get you places...

Yay! More people!

Alph, when you are finished just say so. ;)

Well' date=' unless you also require us to put in a /effect with type or I accidentally made a mistake in it, the new rules should be dealt with in mine.

[/quote']

exactly, i dont need it. ;) thanks for asking and updating that.

I put that in there just to say what they are. I don't think you need it' date=' but wait for Kale.

[/quote']

tru dat. :D

Before we join' date=' do we have to describe the look of our character or can we post the appearance picture in a spoiler?

[/quote']

either-or, or you could do both. ;) i think that a pic is less creative than a description, as i have to pull what i think you mean from the pic into a paragraph rather than reading exactly what you mean, but a pic is really awesome. ;)

EDIT: alrighty Alph. ;) looks good, i will add you to the completed list.

Character

Name: Gary Hammond.

Appearance: Often wearing a pale-white t-shirt and black-dyed jeans, along with a dark-gray jacket and fedora hat. Gary originally had blue eyes, but wears special lenses so that they appear crimson. He also wears, around his left wrist, a pair of intertwined black leather bands. His skin is quite pale, and he has shoulder-long almost-but-not-quite white hair.

Description: Gary usually works well with other people once he gets to know them, but isn't keen to make new friends. It comes easy for him to dislike people, as I will elaborate on in the backstory, and he isn't afraid to use harsher language.

Gary's dueling style is a bit different, as he focuses on dealing damage to himself rather than to his opponent, but it levels out in the end.

Backstory: Twenty years ago, Oscar and Beatrice Hammond had their first children: Twins, Isabel and Gary. The Hammonds were rich, and so forth the siblings had a very wealthy childhood, always getting the toys they wanted. At school, they were among the popular, the higher-level, the nobility, the ones everyone either wanted to be or hated from the bottom of their soul. Everything seemed to go along well for the Hammond twins.

Then, it all fell apart. One day Isabel didn't come home after school. Her parents - and her brother - thought she was just out with her friends. She had left her cell phone on charge at home, but they weren't worried. The hours went by, but the girl didn't show up. At midnight, Gary's parents went to bed, but he remained. At some point, he must have fallen asleep, for he woke up in the couch ten minutes before the school bus would be there. When he got to the school, a brief chat with Isabel's friends confirmed what he had dreaded. His sister was missing.

Not wasting a minute, he called his parents and hurried back home. There, he found his father in tears and his mother on the phone, apparently talking with a very stubborn policeman. She slammed the phone, and Gary could see she was struggling to hold the tears back. "He told me they'd do what they can, but..." She sniffed. "He didn't have much faith. He said... said that... sometimes, people just vanish. "

The Hammonds never recovered. They never heard from the police again, and Isabel was presumed dead. Slowly, Gary watched his parents decline until their money had run out. By then, he had turned himself inside out, canceling out everything and everyone but himself. He didn't see it - but somehow, he just knew - but his friends at school started to ignore him. Isabel had been such a large part of him, and when she was gone... It wasn't right. Two years later, shortly after his eighteenth birthday, Gary dropped out of school and moved out from his near-bankrupt parents.

He even picked up an old card game he hadn't touched in years. It felt... right somehow.

Cards

Gary's strategy is focused around dealing damage to himself, while forcing the opponent to do the same.

Wicked Illusion

Spell Card

You take 1000 damage. Select 1 monster your opponent controls. That monster's effect becomes: "Once per turn, during your Standby Phase, you take 1000 damage. When this card is destroyed, you take 1000 damage."

Mirror Lady

DARK

Fiend

8 / 0 / 0

You can Special Summon this card from your hand or Deck by taking 2000 damage. When you would take damage except by this card's effect, you can take 800 damage to inflict the same amount of damage you would have taken to your opponent instead. You can only control 1 face-up "Mirror Lady".

Appears as a woman, but her skin shows the reflections of those around her. Her eyes glitter red and purple.

Damage Converter

Continuous Trap

When you would take Direct Damage, halve the damage and Special Summon 1 "Collateral Token" (DARK / Machine / Level 2 / ? / ?) to your opponent's side of the field. The ATK/DEF of the "Collateral Token" is equal to the damage you would have taken / 2. If a "Collateral Token" is destroyed, inflict 400 damage to it's controller.

Masochistic Retrieval

Spell Card

Take 1000 Direct Damage. Look at the top 5 cards in your Deck, and add 1 of them to your hand. Shuffle the rest of the cards back into your Deck.

Endless Hurt Dragon

DARK

Dragon / Synchro

8 / 0 / 0

1 Tuner monster + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters.

This card cannot be destroyed by battle. While this card is face-up on the field, inflict 500 damage to the turn player during their End Phase. Any Battle Damage taken from a battle involving this card is treated as Direct Damage and is decreased by 500 points.

A dragon towering over most, her great shape covered in black scales. Her everwatching eyes have seen all of this world's pain, and they are scarred. (Note: Gary has a special bond with Endless Hurt Dragon, as it represents Isabel to him.)
