Azmodius
What is it? Also, why do so many threads in this subforum get locked?
OMGAKITTY
To address your second point first, because after a certain point, it breaks down into the same people saying the same thing over and over again, ie, it's no longer a debate. First point:Many religions help(ed) to explain things that were incomprehensible to the people at the time (for example, ancient greeks believed winter was caused by Perspherone going to the underworld for 3 months). Religion is also often used to set moral standards for a society (Christianity). Finally, religion is used to help people cope with death/loss (ie heaven/hell, reincarnation, etc etc). Those being the 3 main points I can think of off the top of my head, without going into weather or not "X" religion is right, or if God exists and all that crap that always comes with any topic even remotely close to religion. ~Shore
although its not the point of religion, it can often be used to control people, hence Marx calling religion the opiate of the masses. Religion gives hope, and hope is addictive, even if it is false.

Holy Babylon
They say that religion was first created in order to prevent mass hysteria in early cities. Others say that cavemen used to worship the sun as an early form of a God. I say that religion is a word in the dictionary, but the idea is a whole lot more. This will be my first and last post on this thread, because I'll go all over-load on this thread...
