Now, 20 years ago yesterday, the worst football disaster in history occured. The Hillsborough Disaster was a deadly human crush that occurred on 15 April, 1989, at Hillsborough, a football stadium, the home of Sheffield Wednesday F.C. in Sheffield, England, resulting in the deaths of 96 people (all fans of Liverpool F.C.). It remains the deadliest stadium-related disaster in British history and one of the worst in international football. It was the second of two stadium-related disasters to feature Liverpool supporters, the other being the Heysel Stadium Disaster in 1985. The match was an FA Cup semi-final clash between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. It was abandoned six minutes into the game. The inquiry into the disaster, the Taylor Report, named the cause as failure of police control, and resulted in the conversion of many football stadiums in the United Kingdom to all-seater and the removal of barriers at the front of stands.

On 15 April 2009, fans of all sides totalling 28,000 people gathered at Anfield to pay their respects twenty years on, and starting at 3:06pm there were two minutes' silence in respect. This included public transport coming to a stand-still. Nottingham and Sheffield also gathered for two minutes' silences to pay their respects.

And now, today, at 3:06pm, since I was not here yesterday. I would like us to stop making cards and posting comments for two minutes as a way of paying respect to those who died at Hillsborough. This is not spam, this is rememberance. Thank you.

2 minutes isn't a very long time.

Besides' date=' it's not like anyone is going to listen. =3

Well, I would have posted this yesterday, but my PC crashed. And besides, two minutes is customary for all rememberances. Now that it is 3:10pm, could a Mod delete this? Or lock it. Either one's fine.

The difference though, is that it'll usually take two minutes to post a reply anyway.

If I was on my computer earlier, it wouldn't be a problem. But thank you for remembering the Hillsborough Disaster.

While I don't want to come across as unsympathetic, sheet happens. I've never really understood the point of silence as a means to pay respect either - I can respect someone or something inside my own mind without the need to impair any physical behaviour.

Well, I don't understand the need for silence but it still happens. I Guess it's just a gut reaction.
