The only advice I can give you is just not to look at it as flirtation. If he tried to get too close to you, tell him you are not interested in something that far. If he hates you for it, then that's his problem, not yours.

Sorry, I forgot actuall advice. I have two theroies.

 

1) He's pretty damn gay. I think always giving you the ball closes this conversation that can easily be fought against..

2) He's acting gay to get closer to girls. Don't say this is stupid. I know a guy who seem extremely gay but actually likes girls and stalks them but that's a different.

 

If he's really that close of friend I would have to jump on the bandwagon(I hate the bandwagon, it's crowded) and just talk to him.
