Metamagical cards

This is just a random idea I had - Metamagical cards are a series of cards which interact with the Side Deck, either by bringing cards from them or by the effect working from the Side Deck. They also have a Life Point cost to activate. I wonder if such a mechanism could be balanced...

 

Metamagical Draw

Spell Card

Pay 1000 Life Points. During your next Draw Phase, instead of drawing 1 card from your Deck, add 1 card from your Side Deck to your hand.

 

Metamagical Pastwalking

Spell Card

Pay 2000 Life Points. Remove from play 5 cards from your Graveyard and add 5 cards from your Side Deck to your Graveyard.

 

Metamagical Spell Mirror

Spell Card

Activate the effect of this card only from your Side Deck. Pay 1000 Life Points. Remove from play 2 Spell Cards from your Graveyard which have the same name. The effect of this card becomes the effect of the removed Spell Cards.

 

Novice of the Metamagical Disciplines

3* / WIND / Spellcaster-Effect

ATK: 1400 || DEF: 1000

If you control no monster, you can Special Summon this card from your Side Deck by paying 500 Life Points.

 

Footsoldier of the Metamagical Disciplines

4* / WIND / Warrior-Effect

ATK: 1800 || DEF: 1600

If a Level 4 or higher monster you control is destroyed by battle, you can Special Summon this card from your Side Deck by paying 1000 Life Points.

 

Arcane Master of the Metamagical Disciplines

7* / WIND / Spellcaster-Effect

ATK: 2500 || DEF: 2700

If you have 4 or more "Metamagical" cards in your Graveyard, you can Special Summon this card from your Side Deck by paying 1500 Life Points.

 

What do you think? Is that concept worth working on it?

Draw/Pastwalking 100% broken and abusable. Spell Mirror, probably the same.

The monsters; not as bad, but broken, easy things from nowhere.

 

Generally, Draw will always be broken, no matter what you do, since it's deciding your next draw.

Pastwalking no doubt has decks it could be very broken in, dumping a plauge, 3 quill bolts and someother useful thing is not good.

 

I'd say that the easiest way to balance the above two. Limit them. Any card they try to use Draw to find, they may as well have used the card in there main deck. For pastwalking, it limits them a fair bit if they have to leave some useful cards to the side deck while they wait for it.

 

The monsters, meh, too easy for synchro/tribute bait, don't serve as much use themselves other than abusing them for those reasons.

 

The idea is really nice but it would take a lot of work to balance, if Solemn taught me anything, it's that even 4000 lifepoints isn't much of a cost to some players if the effect is good enough, nor is the next 2000, or the 1000 after that. Maybe if you worked it into a Metamagic archtype which could seach only other Metamagic cards, and maybe some of their ace's search non-metamagic cards then this could be really nice.

 

I'm not sure how I'd rate this, the cards are well done and I love the theme but it just seems like it's going to be abused too much, I'm just going to give it ?/10 for now.

Ehehe~ thanks for the comments. Actually I guessed that would happen with such a concept. Some possible changes:

-For the monster cards: Add "This monster cannot be used for a Tribute or Synchro Summon."

-For the Spell Cards: If the effect of this card is used, skip your next 2 Draw Phases.

Do you think it would change for the better?
