Unless your opponent has a single powerful card, he can't really attack it. The effect is more than "there" it clears your opponent's entire field. if i were dueling i wouldn't give up my monsters and life points, would you? Fusion cost too high when those monsters are quite hard to use and to put in a Deck in the first place. And destroyed in battle will be slightly unlikely, most decks use effects to destroy.
