Shasta was about to lose her sanity out of complete boredom. The beach's atmosphere had gone down ever since the oil spill in Northern County. Most people still surfed in the water, but she wondered how they could enjoy so without waves. As she walked, she dipped her big toe in the peak of the water. "Why's it so cold?" she asked herself. The sky was a delicate purple-blue and the sun was redhot, smack in the middle of the sky. This was an ordinary day out on the bay. The cries of the gulls used to annoy her, but after visiting here every year since she was eight, she had gotten used to it; now she threw frenchfries at them in feeble hope that they would take a rest for a minute or two- enough time for her to escape. She knew that by walking along the shore- alone- obviously meant she needed some friends. After nine years, you would have thought she would have had at least two or three companions by now. Sure, she could make some easily. But could she keep them? She didn't know if she could answer that. Soon, the sun was lowering in the sky, and she had to deliberate whether she should go home now or not. She didn't really want to go sit at her house and rot, but nor did she want to stand there like a moron waiting for someone to come make conversation. So she sauntered idly back to first beach, pulled a magazine out of her bag, and started reading.

"It depends... it's kinda annoying when it storms- it's louder here then anywhere else on the island. But when it's not, I love living here. The sunsets are so pretty... and the waves are just astounding. It's not like anything you've ever seen before. Most people only experience them during the day, but at night, they're pretty awesome." Shasta made a point not to mention that she'd only bought the condo three days earlier.
