[spoiler=Chapter One-VS.Cyndaquil]

The train sure is taking forever today… Gold thought to himself on the long ride home from his school, Usually the Magnet Train system goes much faster thin this. What a pain in the ass.

Gold was reasonably cranky today. School was tough on him. Some upperclassmen bullied him for all of lunch hour, and none of Golds friends did anything about it. Gold turned his PokeGear off. He wasn't sure if he even wanted to talk to his so-called "Friends". He placed his pokegear inside his bag.

The Goldenrod City educational system didn't do well either. It seemed to be a big preperation for trainer life. Gold never wanted to be a trainer, so he had never payed much attention to his classes.

The Magnet Train Gold was riding on was a newer model. He remembered Silph Co. Making a big deal about it last year. Apparently the train was powered by a series of supermagnetic frequencies emmited by Magnemites and Magnetons. Gold's teacher tried to explain it too him, but it was kind of a difficult concept for first period. Gold was still half asleep than.

Gold was sat in the very back of the train. On his left sat an elderly woman, and his right seat was taken up by Gold's heavy backpack. There were about seven rows in the front him, each one could hold about four people. The maximum capacity of the train was rather large, considering this was just one compartment.

It was his average ride home. It was somehow... too average?

Gold knew something was wrong. Before he could look around to see what caused his senses to trigger, he suddenly heard a firey noise, one that collided with the metal of the train to create a great bang. Several people screamed.

Gold recognized the blast as a gunshot. Gold quickly looked to the source of the noise, and he saw a tall figure in a mask and dark hat. He took off his coat to reveal a Red "R" on his shirt.

sheet.

This guy was a Team Rocket grunt.

Gold had seen them on the news. The most fearsome organization in all of Johto. They carried around guns and wore the same matching outfits. They commited robberies all the time, and moreover, they had been known to kill hostages.

The gun was pointed down the aisle. It was aimed in the middle so that he could shoot whoever he had to first.

"Now, anyone who wishes to make it off this train outside of a body bag can pass there money to the front." The Rocket Grunt had a very gruff voice, despite his thin appearence.

"A solo robbery? Your not too bright, are you?" Gold felt compelled to say to the man. "I mean, most people would bring an accomplice." Gold stood up.

"You wanna die, punk?" The grunt was pissed off at Gold.

"You wanna lose the cliched dialogue?" Gold asked. The people on the train were staring at Gold. Most of them, concerned for this stupid boy's life.

"Sit down, or I kill you." The grunt's patience was used up.

"You really don't want to fire that gun." Gold said in a clear tone.

"You have to the count of five to sit down." The grunt started a countdown.

"One."

"Two."

"Three."

"Your making a big mistake." Gold told the man.

"Two."

Gold was still standing.

"One."

The Rocket Grunt clamped his hand on the trigger.

And than something strange happened.

The gaurd fell down, flat on his face. The gun fell out of his hand. Gold walked to the front of the aisle and picked it up.

And right behind were the man had stood, gold found his Pokemon, Gligar.

"Nice job, Gligar." Gold smiled. He knew Gligar would be able to do it.

The passangers clapped for Gold, as he explained what he did.

"The grunt was too distracted with me to notice that Gligar was hiding in my bag." Gold revealed, "I had him maneuver to the front row of the train, and than had him use Poison Sting."

"How did you get Gligar to follow your orders?" A young boy up front asked.

"Easy. I used sign language." Gold said.

The train came to Gold's stop, and he went to the front. The same young boy who asked the question called Gold over.

"My dad wants to give you a gift for saving us all," he said. "So he told me to give you this Razor Wing. It makes Pokemon stronger."

"Thanks, kid." Gold said.

Gold got off the train and started to walk home to his apartment.

What he saw after a few blocks of walking home made him gasp.

He saw smoke in the distance. Right by his house.

He ran home, and saw that it was his apartment building on fire.

He heard a scream.

His mother was still inside.

He dashed inside the apartment and ran up a flight of stairs.

Two floors away from his mother's screaming body, Gold was stopped in his tracks.

A boy about Gold's size with long, Red hair was right in front of him. The boy wore a black jacket and a pair of blue jeans. On the floor next to him was a black hat.

This boy was a Rocket Grunt.

"Get out of my way, kid!" The boy kicked at Gold and sent Gold tumbling down a set of stairs.

"You'll have to beat me first!" Gold sent out his Gligar.

"Hmmph. I'll make quick work of you." The boy grabbed a pokeball from his pocket.

"Go, Cyndaquil!" The boy yelled.

The room seemed to get quite a bit hotter. Gold looked at the Pokemon his rival had just sent out, and he saw it looked like a mouse.

And just than, the mouse spouted flames from it's back.

sheet.
