Kira the Savior Posted July 5, 2009 Report Share Posted July 5, 2009 The all in all suck. Half the time the heads effect isnt even good enough to outweigh the possibility of getting tails. Everything else about them is completely unrelated to the tarots. Actually the effects do relate to what each of the Major Arcana in Tarot of the same name reflect, just...Konami did them in a very, very weird way that came out more awkward than effective. The reason these monsters have effects that seem to otherwise be random and don't flow together is because Konami tried to make each reflect their true Tarot equivalent. Example: The Lovers counting as two tributes reflects as to how The Lovers in Tarot represents the duality often presented in the card(The Lovers is usually depicted as either a man or a woman holding hands or something else in a pair). It's also the idea of self-sacrifice for someone you view as significant in your life(Again, reflecting how The Lovers effect requires it to be tributed). I'll give Konami credit in their interpretation of Tarot...however as stated before, these just do not work well together as an Archetype. As far as flavor and source material goes, these are some of the most interesting cards in the game in my opinion...as far as actual effectiveness, yeah, not so much. Though I do agree with you that the Fool makes no sense whatsoever in accordance with Tarot...I can find parallels with the majority of the rest of them however.
