How to make a Great Deck!

Dark Supreme

Recommended Posts

Well i have not seen this anywhere so i have decided to make a help topic for people who dont know how to make a deck or are new to the game.

First you need to make sure to keep the number of the deck in between 40 - 60 well higher is allowed but it wont help i would make my deck a maxuimum of 48 cards so i can draw the right cards faster and it helps me get a combo done faster and easier.

Decks do not need to be like the same type in everything i have seen some decks like Elemental Hero Decks they are filled with Elemental heros yet no staple monsters like Cyber dragon Or A Monarch. These decks are just there to show a collection of cards.

Making a Deck is not about making a deck like the decks in the anime becuase they win with it,it is about making your deck while you enjoy making it and to know a certain type of stratagy.

To make a great deck think about a certain stratagy like....Monarchs.First in a monarch deck you need 1 or 2 monarchs or 1-3 copies of a monarch...I would put a "Razia The Storm Monarch" and "Zaborg The Thunder Monarch".Well you need to put other monster that help you get out of bad situations like.."Cyber Dragon" and "Jinzo".Also what is a way to get monarchs out on the field using their effect....."Double Summon"!

It is easy to make a great deck with great originality all you need to do is to just think of the cards you like and also have them then put them in your deck and think what works with them (It is best not be very specific becuase what are the chances youll draw the cards that go with each other at the same time).

All you need to do is think of cards that will get you out of really hard sitiouations that you might not get out with with your old deck.It is really easy to make a deck like this if you enjoy doing it.

Remember there are many stratgies in this world not only the ones in the anime.Be creative and orignal in making your decks.I hope to see great decks from now on (Instead of anime copy decks).

Here is what i recomend for your every deck!

Monsters:

  • Cyber Dragon
  • Jinzo
  • Razia The Storm Monarch
  • Zaborg The Thunder Monarch

Spells:

  • Brain Control
  • Scapegaot
  • Creature swap
  • Enemy Controller

Traps:

  • Magic Cylender
  • Draining Sheild
  • Torrental Tribute
  • Mirror Force

Hope i Helped

Thank You!

None of those are on the ban list. And what happends if I don't have some of those cards? I don't have Zaborg (Even though I got an offer to trade Raiza for it.), Mirror Force, Jinzo, or Draining Shield. And before you ask I don't have Royal Decree neither.

i just listed the cards he said that should be in every deck and i wrote the cards i don't think should be in every deck, then added mystical space typhoon..so y mention that they r all limited (except zaporg and draining shield, and jinzo semi)

First of all, most decks can't use Monarch or Cyber Dragon, and they are not staples. The real staples are:

Sangan

Breaker the Magcial Warrior

Magician of Fiath

Premature Burial

Heavy Storm

Mystical Space Typhoon

Call of the Haunted

Mirror Force

Torrential Tribute

And even they don't work in every deck. For example, Monarchs might not run Call of the Haunted because it interfears with Treeborn Frog, and Beatdown decks might not have enough samll monsters to consider Sangan. Also, some decks might be too fast and have less important spells, so they might not run Magician of Faith.

Here are semi-staples:

Card Trooper

Neo-Spacian Grand Mole

Book of Moon

Pot of Avarice

Scapegoat

Nobleman of Crossout

Ceasefire

The Transmigration Prophecy

Trap Dustshoot

[/b]Well you need to put other monster that help you get out of bad situations like.."Cyber Dragon" and "Jinzo".Also what is a way to get monarchs out on the field using their effect..... NOT "Double Summon"! really, use cards like Apprentice Magician with Old Vindictive Magician, Magician of Faith, and Crystal Seer. Treeborn Frog. Brain Control. Soul Exchange. Enemy Controller with Scapegoat/Treeborn.

THIS PASSAGE DELETED BECAUSE ITS WRONG

All you need to do is think of cards that will get you out of really hard sitiouations that you might not get out with with your old deck.It is VERY HARD to make a deck like this if you enjoy doing it.

i strongly disagree with that... you can't recommend what cards put on a deck, because you DON'T KNOW the base strategy on those decks... not the most popular cards can be added to every deck... i'll analize your suggestions:

Monsters:

* Cyber Dragon: cydra is a base card in monarch decks, and a quick and strong monster on the field, but deck like stall, burn, deckout, exodia, DDT, reverse OTK, harpie beatdown and/or zombie swarming really doesn't need it

* Jinzo: another not so good card, jinzo force you to play with less traps, and when everybody play less traps, makes jinzo useless, and people take out jinzo, and again more traps will be played, and so on, it's a loop...

* Razia The Storm Monarch: raiza is not so necessary because there's another cards that make the same and are more cheaper like phoenix wing wind blast

* Zaborg The Thunder Monarch: same here, there's a lot more cards that do the same and are more easy to get, old vindictive magician, tribute to the doomed, newdoria, raigeki break, etc...

Spells:

* Brain Control: doesn't work on stall, burn, exodia and technical OTK decks

* Scapegaot: fineon side deck, some decks abuses against sheep tokens, like beast beatdown...

* Creature swap: if you play without searchers like tomato or pyramid turtle, it's useless

* Enemy Controller: hmm, a good card, this you can consider it a card for every deck

Traps:

* Magic Cylender: no, no and NO!! one of the worst and overrated cards EVER!! the effect can work, but it's a lot better destroy the opponent monster than inflict the damage, also there's a lot of cards that make this one confetti, like mirage dragon, e-hero wildheart, book of moon, jinzo, solemn judgement, etc...

* Draining Sheild: the same with magic cylinder...

* Torrental Tribute: this one can be considered in every deck...

* Mirror Force: a really hard to get... this one it's optional only for it's accesibility

some day i'll put a good "deck construction theory" with the consistence topic...

In regards to HORUS' edits, not all decks WANT to stay at 40 cards. Fifth Gadget, anyone? Also some decks running an Apprentice/Tomato Engine may need to go to 41-42 just for consistancy and to keep all the key cards.

I agree Double Summon is a horribad card in Monarchs.

In regards to the original post: why are you so openly declaring that Monarchs are a good basic deck to start with? They aren't. Not because they're bad, because there's some moves with them no new player will think of. Of course it's a matter of opinion but I'd find it slightly overwhelming to be directly 'shoved' into a Monarch deck.

Also you can't justify that Monarchs are the best deck now; with the release of GLAS that'll probably aid Six Samurai but I still don't see any real contestance to the blitzkreig that Zombies lay on you. The only competitive Monarch variant is PC, and there is no way I would recommend that for a new player (not to mention it costs at least $100 to make).

If anything, I'd really recommend an easy, cheap decktype... and something like Warrior Toolbox springs to my mind, at least.

I also laugh that you are promoting originality and creativity whilst driving people towards making Monarch decks and laying out a majority of the cards they "need".

HORUS' revised article is several times better, at least: he knows what Monarchs are and how they work.

I think Jinzo shouldn't be just randomly played, but is a staple in Machine beatdown as much as Cyber Dragon, Card trooper, or Cyber Phoenix. In my oppoinion, it is one of the best dark tributes there is, next to Dark Ruler Ha Des (only in Fiend Beatdown though!), The End of Anubis (great card, but don't use it in a Fiend deck just because he is one; he'll negate more of your cards than your opponent's!), and other cards that I can't remember now.
