Primal Cards

So, I decided to take a crack at doing some 'actual' cards now and figured I'd start with Primal (one of those Great Games No One Has Heard Of™). Not sure how many I'll be doing in this set yet as it depends largely on what images I can get (there's really not much out there easy to get but I think I've found a good source, it'll just be time consuming).

Anyway, I've got a few of the cards done and figured I'd put them up here to get some opinions on them. I tried to keep things close to the game while still making it balanced and making them unique/interesting.

[spoiler=Monster Cards]

[spoiler=Jennifer Tate]344477.jpg

When this monster is Normal Summoned on your side of the field you can add 1 "Disguised as the Enemy" from your Deck to your Hand then shuffle your Deck. You must pay 500 Life Points to Special Summon this monster.

[spoiler=Living Gargoyle Scree]344477.jpg

When this monster is designated as the target of an attack you can remove the top three cards from your Deck from play to increase the DEF of this monster by 1200 points. This effect can only be used once per turn.

[spoiler=Jennifer Tate - Undine Form]344477.jpg

"Jennifer Tate" + 1 or more non-Tuner WATER monsters.

Increase the ATK of this monster by 100 points for each face-up WATER monster on your side of the field. When this monster is destroyed you can remove it from play to Special Summon 1 "Jennifer Tate" from your Graveyard to the field in face up Attack Position.

[spoiler=Jennifer Tate - Djinn Form]344477z.jpg

"Jennifer Tate" + 1 or more non-Tuner FIRE monsters.

During your Battle Phase the ATK and DEF of this monster are switched. Once per turn you can remove one FIRE monster in your Graveyard from play to increase your Life Points by 200. When this monster is destroyed you can remove it from play to Special Summon 1 "Jennifer Tate" from your Graveyard to the field in face up Attack Position.

[spoiler=Jennifer Tate - Wraith Form]344477c.jpg

"Jennifer Tate" + 2 or more non-Tuner WIND monsters.

When this monster destroys one of your opponent's Defense Position monsters whose DEF is lower than the ATK of this monster the difference is inflicted as damage to your opponent. When this monster is destroyed you can remove it from play to Special Summon 1 "Jennifer Tate" from your Deck to the field in face up Attack Position. If you Special Summon "Jennifer Tate" through this card's effect your Deck is then shuffled.

[spoiler=Jennifer Tate - Ferai Form]344477.jpg

"Jennifer Tate" + 1 or more non-Tuner EARTH monsters.

This card counts as 2 monsters when used as a Tribute. When this monster is destroyed you can remove it from play to Special Summon 1 "Jennifer Tate" from your Deck to the field in face up Attack Position. If you Special Summon "Jennifer Tate" through this card's effect your Deck is then shuffled.

[spoiler=Abdizur]344477.jpg

[spoiler=Spell Cards]

[spoiler=Disguised as the Enemy]344477g.jpg

A monster equipped with this card is changed to Defense Position and its position cannot be changed while equipped. While equipped it cannot be designated as a target for attack so long as your opponent controls more than one monster. Pay 500 Life Points during each of your Standby Phases. If you do not, destroy this card.

[spoiler=Rift Gate]344477b.jpg

Move 1 level 3 or lower monster from your Graveyard to your hand.

If you notice any OCG issues let me know. Thanks~

OCG fix!

may = can (first card)

If you destroy a Defense Position monster with this card inflict the difference as Direct Damage to your opponent's Life Points. = During battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than the ATK of this card, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent.

Put quotes around the names of cards in effects and you don't need the word "card" behind them.

I hope that helps.

EDIT: Water-Type = WATER

I thought I remembered seeing quotes around card names in descriptions but I couldn't find any of my own cards that mentioned others so I just went without. And thanks for the OCG fixes, I'll go adjust those and then update my post~

EDIT:

Alright, I think I fixed most, if not all, of the OCG issues now.

I LOVE Primal I just recently got the Wraith form from Aetha. Allow me to help you with OCG. It may not be "perfect" but people will always complain about OCG and 90% of them just say it to sound smart. Below are my suggestions for the Jen card and her aspects. I will continue if you like my suggestions.

Jennifer Tate: When this monster is Normal Summoned on your side of the field you may Special Summon 1 “Disguised as the Enemy” from your Deck to your Hand. If this monster is Special Summoned pay 500 lifepoints.

Scree: When this monster is the target of an attack you may remove the top three cards from your Deck from play to increase the DEF of this monster by 1200 points until your next Draw Phase. This effect can only be used once per turn.

Undine: "Jennifer Tate" + 1 or more non-Tuner WATER monsters.

Increase the attack points of this monster by 100 points for each face-up WATER monster on your side of the field. If this monster is destroyed you may remove this monster from play and Special Summon 1 "Jennifer Tate" from your Deck to the field in face up Attack Position. Your Deck is then shuffled.

-------NOTE: I suggest you say (“Jennifer Tate” from your Deck or Graveyard to the field in face up Attack Position. Your Deck is then shuffled if you Special Summon “Jennifer Tate” from your Deck by this effect.)

Djinn: "Jennifer Tate" + 1 or more non-Tuner FIRE monsters.

During your Battle Phase swap the ATK and DEF of this monster. If this monster is destroyed you can remove it from play to Special Summon 1 "Jennifer Tate" from your deck to the field in face up Attack Position. Your Deck is then shuffled.

-------NOTE: I suggest you say (“Jennifer Tate” from your Deck or Graveyard to the field in face up Attack Position. Your Deck is then shuffled if you Special Summon “Jennifer Tate” from your Deck by this effect.) and increase this card’s effect by (You may remove 1 FIRE monster from play and increase you lifepoints by 200.)

Wraith: "Jennifer Tate" + 2 or more non-Tuner EARTH monsters.

When this card attacks 1 of your opponent’s monster cards in Defense Position whose defense points are lower than the defense points of this card, inflict the difference as extra Battle Damage to your opponent. When this monster is destroyed you can remove it from play to Special Summon 1 "Jennifer Tate" from your deck to the field in face up Attack Position. Your Deck is then shuffled.

-------NOTE: I suggest you say (“Jennifer Tate” from your Deck or Graveyard to the field in face up Attack Position. Your Deck is then shuffled if you Special Summon “Jennifer Tate” from your Deck by this effect.) and you may want to change Earth monsters to Wind in the summoning conditions.

Ferai: "Jennifer Tate" + 1 or more non-Tuner Earth monsters.

This card is counted as 2 monsters when used as a Tribute.

Your Deck is then shuffled if you Special Summon “Jennifer Tate” from your Deck by this effect.)

Haha, yeah, it's awesome. I picked it up purely by chance. Second hand store near here does 3 PS2 games for $20 and I'd already found two I wanted but didn't recognize any of the other titles. Came down to either Primal or some RPG, forget what it was now, and I ended up picking Primal. So glad I did. <3 Gonna do a new play through of it in a few days, once I finish my current replay of Soul Reaver. I found Aetha to be the coolest of the realms, though the Djinn form is by far the most bad ass.

Nice to know I'm not the only one here who's played it.

Anyway, onto the topic. XD

Jen: Yeah, I suppose being more specific would be better. Though, I don't think "special summon" applies here since it is a magic card, and is only going to the hand anyway.

Scree: I don't know about making it last the entire Battle Phase. I was thinking more of just that one particular attack, otherwise it seems a bit over powered, even with sending 3 cards out of play. A constant (or nearly so) 3200 DEF on a level 6 monster seems a bit much, even with the loss of 3 cards. So I was thinking it resets back down 2000 for the rest of the Battle Phase.

Undine form: Ah, full caps on monster attributes. Forgot all about that. Also noticed a minor lack of consistency since I used 'attack' here and 'ATK' in other cards, gonna have to change this one to match.

Anyway, as for the effect, for this one and the other three, I considered letting it be the Deck or Graveyard but that seemed a bit too much. I don't see Jen's card being limited at all (more like Disguise of the Enemy would get restricted) so three Jen's in the deck, plus the four Synchro cards to revive her with, and whatever revival cards a person has... she'd be near impossible to get rid of (even if that *is* more faithful to the game XD), even with the 500 LP Special Summon cost.

Though another though I had was to, perhaps, split the two options between the four cards? In other words, have two of them allow for taking Jen's card from the Deck while the other two would bring it back from the Graveyard? I'd probably do it Wraith/Ferai for Deck and Undine/Djiin for Graveyard. What do you think?

Djinn form: Aside from what I addressed above, I do like the LP increase idea. I was thinking, especially with the ATK being at 1300 during your opponent's turn, she was kind of under powered in skills. Add in the LP restore and she becomes a good attacker if need be and a great defense and restore card. I like~

Also, I thought of a wording change to the effect: "During your Battle Phase the ATK and DEF of this monster are switched." This way seems to make it more clear that the stat switch is only effective during your own Battle Phase and reverts to normal afterward....

Wraith form: Uh, yes... that is supposed to be WIND. I really should pay better attention to these things. XD And I like your phrasing for the effect, though I think I'll make a few tweaks to it. How does "When this monster attacks 1 of your opponent’s Defense Position monsters whose DEF is less than the ATK of this monster the difference is inflicted as Battle Damage to your opponent." sound?

Ferai form: Hey, one with little difference! XD Though it's a little difference that works. Your versions sounds a bit more OCG than mine, so I'll take it~

So, that's my thoughts on all of your thoughts. Looks like all that's left to work out is if the Synchro cards should be able to pull Jen from either the Deck or Graveyard or just one of them. Much thanks for the input. I'll worry about updating the cards later, don't feel like changing them now only to have to do it again later if I decide to modify the Special Summoning effects.

Say, you wouldn't know any good sources for more images by chance? The ones I used above were all from good to decent quality wallpapers or screen shots (aside from Abdizur whose a fairly low quality concept art, and I'd like to change him eventually anyway) but now that I've got the primary characters out of the way it's really hard to get decent images to use. I tried doing a couple of screen caps from YouTube videos but sadly these were rather low quality videos.

You can get some pretty good quality on YT, a lot of my FMV uploads there look good so I was hoping... but the end result on the test card looked rather poor. I was rather hoping to be able to do cards for a lot of the secondary/support characters. I'd like to do monster cards of some of the random enemies, like the Malkai and Ferai guards from Sollum, and also several characters.

Namely Arella, Abaddon, Lewis, Belahzur, King Herne, Jared, Abdizur Colossus (the statue from the Belahzur fight), Imposter Devena, King Adaro, Captain Valeera, Raum, Empusa, and King Iblis. >.>

I've also got a lot of ideas for various magic and trap cards, such as the two I've already managed. An "Energy Gem" trap card that, while not preventing taking damage, will prevent the destruction of any card with "Jennifer Tate" in the name, a "Summoning Stone" trap card that does basically the same thing as the "Rift Gate", only from the Deck instead of the Graveyard, a "Vambrace" equip card for ATK boosting, a "Statue Possession" spell card that would function much like Snatch Steal, only it'd only work on Rock Type monsters, and a few others~

But, like I said, finding good images for all of this isn't easy. Primal flew too low under the radar for there to be a lot of good sources out there. This would be so much easier if I had a capture card. :/
