Many, many, many, many, many, many years ago, there were 2 tribes of duelists. There were the dominant Woodsmen, and the less powerful Sea-Striders. The Woodsmen, who lived in total control over the Sea-Striders, eventually decided to get rid of them once and for all. So they sent them into a cave and sealed up the entrance with a special magical seal, that could only be broken by a very powerful mage. The woodsmen were confident that the Sea-Striders didn't have any mages, and they were right, so they sealed them up tight and forgot about them. This has led the Sea-Striders to become known as the 'Forgotten'. However, what the woodsmen didn't count on was the Forgotten surviving in the cave, thriving for thousands of years, until one day, they had grown strong enough to break the seal, and attack the Woodsmen with all of their might. They, however, had chosen to wait until the woodsmen, who had, over the last three thousand years, conquered many lands, and grown immeasurably powerful, weakened so that the Forgotten could invade successfully. That day is now. Pirates have recently started attacking Woodsmen towns, and theives and traitors are everywhere. The Woodsmen are already at war with another tribe, the Spirituals, who have a large army of mages, and are therefore even weaker.

[spoiler=how to play]

someone doesn't have to accept your challenge for you to duel them, although someone can replace you in the duel. If you lose a duel, you go to the infirmary and cannot duel for a little while. If a leader is defeated in a duel, that leader's army becomes part of the army of the person who defeated him/her, along with the defeated leader.

mercenaries will work for any team that will pay the most. Each tribe has 10,000 gold to buy mercenaries with. Strategists or leaders are the only ones who can buy mercenaries.
