He looked at the ring, a black gem glinting at him. He fit the ring on his finger. The ring made a spreading pattern all over his body. From his left middle finger, black lines lined where his bones were. Gideon tried to take the ring off but failed, not able to pry it off. Rilight sat, his orb glowing. "What could this be?" He followed the glowing until he was in the middle of a field. He didn't see any gem, but the light flashed anyway. Gideon jumped back and then recomposed himself. "Sir Rilight? Is that you? You seem different." "Hmm, do I know you?" Rilight said. "I am Gideon. We met briefly... and we killed a man..." Gideon said. "Hm.... what?" Rilight asked. Ivan, currently waiting to be Knighted by the new king, was standing to the left of the throne, while Rilight's position was still empty on its right. Rilight jumped back, his orb frantically flashing. Rilight jumped forward, traying to catch the ring. What could that be? A Gem of Power? A Gem of Death? Rilight was slower than Gideon, especially with his speed, strength, and defense increased by the gem's power. "Heheh," Gideon said, "You fool, Rilight. After this Gem? Well I've noticed that it's the one giving me this extra power." Rilight felt pain surge through his broken arm. He pointed one finger at Gideon, a beam of ice shooting out of the tip. Crystals started to shoot out from Gideon's chest, but were easily shattered by the power resonating from the black lines. Ivan waited desperately for the new king, to see who he would serve under. Who could it be? Did the king bear a male heir? Or is his killer the new king? Having a member of the Dark Brotherhood as King is a disastrous thought. Gideon noticed the gems lining Rilight's Gauntlet, which seemed to be resonating the same energy through Rilight. Gideon dashed forward, feinting an attack. Rilight sent up a wall of flames between Gideon and he, waiting to see if Gideon could dispell this. Gideon was pacing around the outside of the wall, watching Rilight's amorphous figure through the flames. Rilight made the wall collapse into a single point on his finger, shooting the concentrated ball of fire at Gideon. Immediately, the ring became loose and fell to the ground, its power draining from Gideon. He collapsed in the field. Rilight picked up the ring, prying the gem from it. Rilight was immediately stricken with a strange sensation going through his body. Twelve spots remained on the gauntlet, and the four already were glowing when near each other. The gems were seemingly useless when unchanneled, through an item like a ring or gauntlet. Trace amounts of gold in each point that gold tends to channel the energy best, making it an extremely rare power to collect. Rilight sat, back when he was only fifteen, under a large oak, a drawing pad in hand. He skectched the strange fruit he had been observing from afar. He seemed to sense a wavering sensation of anxiety sweep through him as he looked around. There was only a single town to the south, which led almost to the border of the Great Empire. He watched passersby pass the strange tree without parting a second glance, as if they couldn't see the splendid looking fruit hanging from its branches. Rilight got up, following the waves of anxiety to a field. It was a simple pasture, row after row of corn, the wind blowing above Rilight's head. He found an area an looked around. He was very anxious now. He sat down and felt an odd stirring. A dead corn stalk lay on the ground beside him and there was nothing pointing to why this single stalk could've died. He looked around, noticing a golden rock with a spiral of blood-color going through it. He picked it up, admiring it. He looked around, then decided to keep his treasure hidden.
