I bow to God Kaze's amazing writing skills. It is writing like yours and Ixigo's that make me want to read a lot. I like the pictures you used to describe your characters and the cards, it make it easier to imagine what they look similar to. Though I have to ask, is the picture of the cards like Tunaki suppose to have their Turn Summon opposites on it?

My favorite parts:

Chapter Two:

“Well I already defeated Marcus, and he’s ranked higher than you are. I guess there’s no point if it means I’d just win.” Clovis replied with a laugh.

That is funny.

The Headmaster placed his hand on top of her head to stop her. “It is alright. I would never discipline one of my precious blues when a Slifer Red is obviously the cause of this truancy.” He removed his hand from the top of Naomi’s head and walked over to Clovis. “It is the first day and you are already skipping class. I have the right to assume you would continue this behavior if given the chance. So, to prevent further inconvenience on my part, you are expelled from Duel Academy. May you never return.”

That was unexpected and hilarious.

Chapter Three

“Um... sure.” Naomi laughed nervously. She had hoped to get this done quickly. The members began bombarding her with questions faster than she could answer.

“Are you and Dark Magician really serious?”

“Well, you see–”

“When you’re next movie?”

“You should ask the produ–”

“What are your measurements?”

“I don’t see why you should–”

“What colour are you panties?!”

Those obsessed fans were hilarious with the questions, especially the last one.

Chapter Four:

Great duel. It was messed up that the person who came to tell Derek that his sister died couldn't wait until after the duel. I almost thought it was like a setup to distract him. I love the FIRE cards.

Chapter Five:

....I am always effy about Ra, Obelisk, and Slifer based cards. Question, I thought that Clovis would only call him Derek instead of Icarus? Or did I misread it?

Chapter Six:

Oh, how I love when the main characters who think they will always win loses and their overconfindence drops like a rock on a ant. Oh, I think there may be an error. You referred to one of your cards as "Prism Blade" but the card itself said "Prism Edge".

Otherwise after reading all six chapters in one sitting, I am glad to be able to read. Great fanfic. 9.9/10

Ok, I have important news. I won't be able to write the Christmas special. I'd rather continue the series regularily so it doesn't lose the mood I have established.

Even more news! I want your cards! Submit your created cards (and possibly a character) and they might be the lucky ones chosen to be worked into Chapter 10! But not yet, lol. I will be creating a thread in Card Contests tomorrow, so get ready!

Thanks for showing me your favourite parts. A lot of them are my fav bits from those eps as well (especially the Naomi-Panties thing, *snicker*snicker*). As for chapter four, I have to say that there is more to Icarus's story. You are right to assume there is more to that person and it will be looked into later in the story. Also, you sir, get a rep for pointing out that mistake in chapter 5! Clovis only refers to Icarus by his real name, I've edited that episode and will be on the lookout to make sure I don't make that mistake again. The mistake in chapter 6 isn't that major, I think I'll leave it the way it is for now as a sign that I am not perfect, lol. I hope you read more of my installments.

God Kaze just said this when a dark voice said:

Two days Left, be ready in time OR ELSE...

XD

I'll start writing. XD

that was my favorite of all the episodes

I guess it was worth the wait then? lol

lol! That episode is AWESOME! I know I said it before, but that episode is AWESOME!

Thanks^^. Your take on it is awesome!

EXELLENT!!!

100/10

REPPED!

Thanks for the rep!

Nice story :]

Nice sixth chapter... LONG sixth chapter xD

But there are a couple problems I saw. First, Curse of Lineage [in Nathaniel's first duel] doesn't work because all the monsters were insects, NOT rocks. So he shouldn't have won there.

Secondly, You need to decide how you're gonna spell Dami*n's name. Half the time you spell it Damian and the other half Damien.

Hmm.

I liked.

It was one of those classic anime moments where the main character gets pwned before he knew what hit him, and I love those. I also enjoyed Nathaniel's profile - he is quite different from your usual badass antagonist, and has intriguing depth and favors strategy. The dueling was as interesting as ever, with intriguing new tactics and strategies introduced, based on clever cards and combinations, while you easily sidestepped a second anti-climax that would be Clovis beating Nathaniel.

That aside, there were a few flaws in this chapter, such as Nathaniel mentioning and analyzing Clovis' "gift" out of the blue, which really caused me to stop there for a bit and blink - it's not something you expect tossed out so early and in such a bizarre instance. Also, Nathaniel calling the Chancellor by his first name, something you wouldn't expect from such a high-class duelist. Also, you made Clovis look kind of like a fool in certain instances in this chapter - I know he isn't supposed to be the brightest, most serious duelist out there, but I have a feeling his attitude in this chapter degraded him compared to how you presented his actions in the previous ones. Also, there were a few more minor grammatical issues than usual, but only through my third read did I spot any significant ones.

Overall, as a reader, I am satisfied. The chapter was filled with impressively well-written moments, such as Clovis' reaction to Nathaniel's announcement of victory and Nathaniel's words. Therefore, your rating for this chapter:

-Plot: 9/10 (A nice thickening of the plot as the main character suffers his first major defeat... that's usually one of my favorite parts in every anime / manga I watch / read)

-Characters: 8.5/10 (Nathaniel is an impressive new addition to the roster - I would have liked a bit more background info casually tossed in by one of the other characters though)

-Grammar / Syntax / Structure: 9/10 (A few more flaws than usual here and there, but nothing to be worried about)

-Description: 8/10 (Not bad. Could be better though, especially when describing the surroundings)

-Dueling: 9.5/10 (Perfect, as always. Only things to note would be that I would have enjoyed a little more insight into your Chess deck - ie, how Nathaniel ended up using it etc. A little flavor information, if you prefer)

-Overall: 8.8 (A great chapter, I enjoyed it thoroughly)

Keep up the good work, I can't wait to read your next installment.

Yes, I realised that mistake on Curse of Lineage after posting it. To be hoenst, my original idea was for Nathaniel to use Trojan Blast, but after reading the card, realised it wouldn't have worked. So, I just threw anything I could think of together in an attempts to get this chapter done ASAP.

As for the name thing, guess I wasn't really paying attention to that. I'll try to stick with "Damien" from now on.

The whole "heart of the cards"/"gift" thing was supposed to make Clovis stop and think rather than you. Don't worry, I think I've got a control on where the idea is going and how Clovis will exactly react to this knowledge.

I will be going into detail on Nathaniel and his deck in a future chapter that revolves mostly around him and Marcus.

I can see some of your points on the characterization. I guess I felt Clovis's personallity was too blan and unintentionally overpowered some of his less flattering traits.

Thanks for the posts everyone! I'm working on Chapter 7 now, so it'll be up eventually.

When you said "what are your measurements" did you mean

[spoiler=Don't look here if you're under 13]Her breast size?

By measurements, I meant hips, waist, and breast size, which all seem to be important information in terms of some anime series *cough*AirGear*cough*.

Well, as long as you know where you are headed with this... I guess it just took me by surprise, being introduced to this in such an unconventional manner.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry sorry sorry. I can't can't express how bad I feel I've made all of you wait. But good news, I have chapters 7, 8, and 9 written! So here's chapter 7. During the "Dance Dance Dueling" format of dueling, the duel area looks something like this:

PlayMat.jpg

Chapter 7!

New Character:

Hana.jpg

[i do not own this character designs. I merely use it as an example of the likeness of my character. I do not claim ownership of it.]

Marcus wandered the streets of Domino City. The sky had grown dark. The first day since their arrival was coming to a close. But this didn’t bother him, he already had two wins. But how many more would it take? How many victories before he could forget his defeat to Clovis.

Marcus turned down an alleyway. It appeared to be empty, aside from a rat or two running around. Marcus pulled back his fist and punched a green dumpster on his right. There was a loud dull metal clung sound and his hand recoiled in pain. He was sick of wearing this mask. Pretending nothing can hurt him. Only Nathaniel and Bahrei had ever defeated him. They were better duelists, it made sense that he lost to them. But this kid, Clovis, he seemed to defy those very rules!

“Ah, a troubled soul,” said a voice from within the shadows.

“Who’s there?” asked Marcus.

A man stepped out from the darkness. He was older and had white hair. His face showed no threat, but Marcus was cautious anyway. Behind this stranger, still lingering in the shadows, was the outline of four people.

“You can call me, Alexander.”

That’s when Marcus noticed this person was wearing a duel disk. “Here for a duel?”

“I come not bearing a challenge, but salvation.”

Chapter 7: Regaining faith in the cards! Dance Dueling Revolution!

It seemed Naomi and Icarus were at a loss, nothing they did seemed to cheer up Clovis. He was in constant deep thought with a depressed look on his face, rarely speaking.

They had all stayed on the ship that night, which remained docked at the harbor. Clovis seemed to have completely lost his drive after his loss to Nathaniel.

“Will you cheer up already?” asked Naomi. “We only have three days left, and you need to complete four more duels.”

There came no reply. Clovis continued to walk with his head down. The three of them had left the ship and were strolling down the streets of Domino City.

“Never let one defeat hang over you like this. Continue dueling and trying your best, and you’ll be winning again just like that,” Icarus said and snapped his fingers.

Clovis stopped walking. The others stopped a moment later and looked back at him. “Yeah, but its those victories that bother me,” he muttered under his breath.

Icarus and Naomi looked at each other, unsure by what exactly he meant.

Suddenly, all three members of the group had to shield their eyes. A wave of flashing and mulitcoloured lights had poured from the open entrance beside them. This was followed by the sound of booming music. This blinding and ear shattering place was...

“An arcade!” Naomi shouted, her hands together. “Come on!” She grabbed Clovis by this hand and pulled him into the building. With a sigh, Icarus followed them.

“I didn’t know you liked video games so much,” said Icarus to Naomi, but she wasn’t listening. She was darting between crowds, checking out how each player was doing, waiting for one of them to lose so a game would become open. Clovis helplessly followed her.

Eventually the two of them made it to the far end of the arcade, where the biggest crowd had gathered. Naomi pushed her way to the front, also making sure Clovis hadn’t escaped from her yet.

“Ah, this is the one game I hate,” said a disappointed Naomi. “It’s all about dancing, something I’ve never really been good at.” But Clovis still seemed a uninterested as ever.

The two people were playing Dance Dance Revolution. A large screen on the back wall displayed shapes and the competitors had to step on the matching shape on the mat beneath their feet. Missing a space, or hitting the wrong space, results in you losing points.

When the game ended, the winner was a short blonde-haired girl. “Wee-hee! That was fun! Thanks for playing!” she waved at her opponent as he walked of his platform. “Who wants to play against the great Hana?”

To put it simply, she was adorable. A few people were awing at her sheer cuteness. But it didn’t look like anyone was willing to play. Disappointed, she started scanning the crowds. She finally stopped when she saw Naomi.

“I know you!” said Hana, jumping down from her platform and landing directly in front of Naomi. “You’re an obelisk blue at duel academy!”

“Uh... right.” Naomi said. This fact was obvious because she was still wearing her uniform.

“I go to duel academy too! I’m a ra yellow,” she said happily. “Want to dance with me?”

“Uh... No thanks, I’m not good at dancing.”

“Aww, well, what about your boy friend? Can’t he play?”

“B-boyfriend?!”

“Well, you’re holding hands, aren’t you?”

Naomi noticed this and quickly let go of Clovis’s hand, blushing.

Hana just smiled innocently. “Then, how about a duel? The DDR machine doubles as a dueling platform. You are in the Kaiser Gand Open, aren’t you?”

“Alright,” accepted Naomi. “But don’t feel bad when you get a loss added to your record.”

* * * * *

Naomi stood on one platform, and Hana on the other. Icarus had worked his way through the crowd and was standing beside Clovis. “Pay attention to this duel,” Icarus instructed him. “It may just teach you a few things.”

“I wanna start! I wanna start!” Hana said, jumping up and down waving her warms in the air. One of her arms had a duel disk attached.

“All right, all right,” Naomi agreed. She couldn’t believe how hyper her opponent was.

“I’m starting off with a field spell card, Dance Dueling Revolution!” The platforms Naomi and Hana were standing on sprang to life. The icons on the floor in front of them began to flash. “See, while you are bad at dancing, I’m not so good at dueling. But this way, we both come on the same level.” Hana smiled innocently.

“Clever move,” noted Icarus. “It looks like the fact that Naomi is an obelisk blue won’t matter if this field spell actually does bring them onto the same level.” Clovis gave no response.

“I’m continuing my turn! But first, let’s see the squares I hate to hit!” Hana pointed at the big screen on the wall on her left. Two symbols displayed:

UP - X

“You see, the dancing mat in front of you has become our new dueling field. The spaces; UP, DOWN, LEFT, and RIGHT are for monsters, and the X, SQUARE, TRIANGLE, and CIRCLE spaces are for spells and traps. Got it?”

Naomi was definately confused by these new rules. Now instead of five monster zones and five spell/trap zones, she is down to four of each. “I got it, just hurry up with your turn.”

“Ok! I’m activating my Performance Audition (Normal Spell), and it’s going in the ‘X’ panel! Now I take three of my dancing monster from my deck and show them to you. You get to choose which of them is added to my hand.” Hana held up three monster cards. They looked like dancers dressed as bees.

“I dunno,” Naomi said with a shrug. These were some of the few cards she hadn’t seen already. “The middle one.”

“Thanks! The other two go back into my deck... But I get to summon the one you picked! So welcome my Bumble Beat Jazz (4/1500/1600)!” Just as the card image had shown, a beautiful dancer appeared on the field. She was, as Naomi had noted, dressed as a bee. Her outfit was black and yellow striped and she had two antennae on top of her head. “I’m playing her in the UP panel. Now, I’m ending my turn. Let’s see my score!”

The screen displayed the word “PERFECT” in large letter with a triumphant sound blasting over the speakers. “Oh, boy! Now I get five hundred more points for getting a perfect score!” Hana danced about happily at her success.

NAOMI: 4000

HANA: 4500

“That took long enough,” said Naomi, drawing her card.

DOWN - LEFT - SQUARE

Naomi ignored the screen. She was a duelists who respected her cards. Why should she make them dance? “I activate Future Fusion (Continuous Spell) and I’m using its effect to send my three Guiding Dragons (Red, Yellow, and Green) in my deck to the graveyard.”

“Uh oh, you played that card in the X panel. You hit the wrong space, and so you lose points!”

NAOMI: 3500

HANA: 4500

“I bet you care about dancing now...” Hana followed up with a short giggle.

“Don’t think you’ve beaten me. Now I’m activating Dragon's Mirror (Normal Spell) and I’ll make sue to play it in the SQUARE panel. Now I just remove the three dragons in my graveyard from the game, and I get to summon my Aurora Dragon Eos (8/2600/2600)!” The rainbow shining dragon appeared on the field in a flash of light. It was forced to hunch over due to the low ceiling. “Eos, attack that Bumble Beat monster!”

“Wrong! This is Dance Dueling! Which means no attacking allowed! Only dancing, tee hee.”

“Then I’m setting a card (CIRCLE) and then end my turn.”

“You just played in the wrong panel again!”

NAOMI: 3000

HANA: 4500

“Let’s see your score!” Hana shouted, pointing at the screen. “Oopsie, you missed a panel! Which means you lose some points...”

NAOMI: 2500

HANA: 4500

Hana drew her card.

DOWN - UP - CIRCLE - CIRCLE

“I’m discarding the card Song Select (Normal Spell) from my hand. When it’s discarded while my field spell is on the field, I get to change the tune.”

UP - DOWN - LEFT - RIGHT

“Now, I’m summoning Bumble Beat Blues (4/1250/300 - RIGHT)! Now I can use the effect of my Bumble Beats, each can move to another monster card zone. Jazz move to the LEFT panel, and Blues moves to the UP panel. Also, since at least two monster have moved to new card zones, the effect of m Bumble Beats activate! Blues gets double the attack points (1250 –> 2500) and Jazz gets to destroy your face down card.” The face down Mystic Wok card was destroyed.

Naomi raised her arms, trying to guard herself from the exploding card on her field. She hoped she had made the right decision not activating it.

“Next, I get to special summon my Bumble Beetle (3/700/500 - DOWN) to the field, right from my hand! Well, that ends my turn. Now lets see my score!

PERFECT!!!

NAOMI: 2500

HANA: 5000

Naomi drew her card and that turns pattern appeared on the screen: DOWN - LEFT - RIGHT - TRIANGLE - SQUARE

“I’ll set 2 cards face down (TRIANGLE - SQUARE) and end my turn,” said Naomi.

“What? Already? Those were some bad moves. First, because Eos is in the DOWN panel already, he counts as you hitting it, so no points lost there. But you missed the RIGHT and LEFT panels, which will cost you a thousand points. Also, Future Fusion is still in the X panel, which was displayed, so that counts as hitting the wrong panel, meaning yet another five hundred points taken.”

NAOMI: 1000

HANA: 5000

Most of the crowd looked confused at these rules. Though it was more frustrating and confusing to Naomi. She was losing to a ra yellow because of these rules.

“My turn again! Let’s see the moves I have to make!”

LEFT - RIGHT - UP - DOWN - TRIANGLE - X

“First, I’m using my Magical Stone Excavation (Normal Spell - X). I’m discarding the cards Scapegoat and Senet Switch to add Performance Audition back to my hand. Next, I think I’ll use it (Normal Spell - TRIANGLE). Choose which of these three ladies will win he audition.” Hana presented three new Bumble Beats to Naomi.

“Uh... The left one.”

“Good choice,” Hana said, obviously satisfied. “I’m tributing by Bumble Beatle to special summon the Bumble Beat you just chose. It’s Bumble Beat Techno (4/1400/1200 - DOWN)! Now, watch as my beautiful performers dance!” Each of the three Bumble Beats moved to a different square with amazing grave and elegance (Blues to RIGHT, Jazz to UP, and Techno to LEFT.) “Now, I can use Techno’s effect. Since at least two of my monsters have danced to a new square this turn, you take five-hundred points of damage...”

NAOMI: 500

HANA: 5000

“You remember Jazz’s effect, right? Say goodbye to one of your face down cards.”

“Not so fast! I’m activating both of them!” Naomi pointed at her face down, which flipped face up at her command. “De-Fusion (Quick-Play Spell) and Burial from the Different Dimension (Quick-Play Spell)! Burial from the Different Dimension activates first, sending the three dragons I removed from play with Dragon’s Mirror back to my graveyard. Then, De-Fusion sends Eos back to my Fusion Deck and special summoned my three dragons! (Red 4/1500/1500 -UP, Yellow 4/1600/900 - LEFT, Green 4/1400/1800 - RIGHT)

“Well, since it’s not your turn, I guess you don’t lose any points for playing cards. So, take your turn. But look at the score. Make even one mistake, and you lose!”

PERFECT!!!

NAOMI: 500

HANA: 5500

DOWN - DOWN - LEFT - RIGHT - TRIANGLE - CIRCLE - CIRCLE

“Future Fusion’s effect finally activates! I get to summon Eos (8/2600/2600 - Down) right back to the field. I’m then tributing both Guiding Dragons Red and Green to summon Dragon of Terraforming (7/2700/2100 - RIGHT). Now to get rid of this field spell once and for all, I’m activating Hammer Shot (Normal Spell)!”

“Hammer Shot doesn’t destroy spell cards. It destroys the monster on the field with the highest attack points. You just destroyed your own monster!”

“Just what I wanted. When Dragon fo Terraforming is destroyed, I can send the current Field Spell to the graveyard to bring it back to the field.”

“No, my field spell!” Hana cried out. The lights on the stage turned off and the large reptilian dragon clawed its way back onto the field.

“Impressive,” said Icarus to Clovis. “These rules obviously weren’t working with her, so Naomi got rid of them. Now she’s back to playing at a higher level than her opponent.”

“I guess...” Clovis said, still not showing much interest.

“Now, get em’ boys!” shouted Naomi. Eos lifted its head, collecting light within its mouth. It swung its head downwards and let loose a ferocious beam of light energy that consumed Bumble Beat Blues (Now 2500 thanks to its effect). Guiding Dragon Yellow flew forward, twisting around the laser attack and landed on Jazz, combusting her into pixels. The final Bumble Beat, Techno, tried to escape, but Dragon of Terraforming bursted from the ground and attacked.

NAOMI: 500

HANA: 4000

“Finally, I’m using Terraforming’s second effect. By tributing Guiding Dragon Yellow, I can take Fusion Gate (Field Spell) from my deck, and activate it on the field!” A swirl of dark clouds appeared above the player’s heads.

“I don’t understand,” said Clovis to Icarus. “Why would she send one of her monsters to the graveyard to get a field spell she can’t use?”

“Well, her guiding dragon has very low attack points. Since she has so little life points left, it only makes sense to take it off the field. Plus, because there’s a field spell, she can send it to the graveyard if Dragon of Terraforming gets destroyed to bring it back to life.”

“She put a lot of thought into that move then...”

“Yup, she has always worked to become the duelist she is today. Naomi has spent countless days perfecting her strategies.”

Back at the duel, Hana was surprisingly laughing. “You think because my field spell is gone, I can’t win? Ha! Watch this! I’m activating Desperation Draw (Normal Spell - No, I'm not making this card, horribly overpowered. ~ GK)! Since my field and hand are empty, I get to draw 3 cards. The first card I’m using Tribute to the Doomed (Normal Spell). I’m discarding Bumble Beat Rock to destroy Aurora Dragon Eos.” Eos became bounded in bandages and a devilish hand rose form the ground and pulled him into a darkened pit. “I have to congratulate you on making have to play this next card. Not many make it long enough to witness my Bumble Beat Prima (8/3000/1900)! All I have to do is remove from play all the Bumble Beats in my graveyard.” This higher level Bumble Beat was much more beautiful than the others. She was older, more mature, and wore a long gown. ‘Attack Dragon of Terraforming!”

Bumble Beat Prima performed a jump forward, destroying her target with a swing of her arms.

NAOMI: 200

HANA: 4000

“Terraforming, return!” Naomi called. Fusion Gate was sent to the graveyard and Dragon of Terraforming burrowed back to the field.

“What a predictable move,” Hana said, raising her arms. “Don’t think you can destroy my Prima. To summon her, I removed all of my Bumble Beats in the graveyard from play, and as long there’s at least four removed from play, Prima can’t be destroyed in battle.”

Naomi gritted her teeth. Hana was making this duel too difficult for her. Naomi reached and touched the top card of her deck. It sent a surge through her entire body. She wondered what this sensation was as she drew it. This card, she thought. It’s the one Clovis gave me. For the second time, Clovis’s words crept across her mind...

Looks like you won’t have to follow me around anymore.

Naomi closed her eyes, submerging herself into thought. I want to win, but if Clovis sees how good this card is, he’ll know I was lying about it being worthless. Clovis, I want to stay with you...
