Sept.1/09 Chaos Monarchs

Recommended Posts

So, I'm just making this deck based on the Japanese ban list for sept.1/09. I'm making this completely on theory but it seems good enough for a tournament/SJC/ect.

(This is the list that I'm using)

First, I would like to explain a thought I had while building this deck. Last format, people thought that monarch decks could be top tier because of the "Raiza the storm monarch" is at 3. They never showed any good moves against the "Dark Skill drain", because of there effects being negated. Never had a chance against "Lightsworn", because of the fast paced swarming. "Blackwings, because of there swarming, could destroy monarchs, and "Syncro cat", the best deck in most peoples mind, had the best theoretical chance of winning...in my mind. I designed this deck to work around all of those decks.

So, let's get to the deck list.

Monsters: ===21

X2 Chaos Sorcerer

X3 Cauis, the Shadow monarch

X3 Zaborg, the Thunder monarch

X1 Dark armed dragon

X2 Dark Grepher

X1 Necro gardna

X2 Breaker the magical warrior

X2 Ryko, lightsworn Hunter

X1 Sangan

X3 Thunder King, Raioh

X1 Cyber Dragon

So that's:

9 LIGHT monsters

12 DARK monster

Spells: ===15

X2 Allure of darkness

X1 Reinforcement of the army

X1 Brain Control

X2 Book of Moon

X1 Enemy Controller

X1 Gold Sarcauphagaus

X1 Mystical Space Typhoon

X1 Heavy Storm

X1 Lightning Vortex

X3 Fissure

X1 Smashing ground

Traps: ===6

X2 Royal Decree

X1 Solemn Judgment

X2 Dark Bribe

X1 Call of the Haunted

Side deck: ===15

X3 Legendary Jujitsu master

X1 Breaker the magical warrior

X1 Giant Trunade

X3 Threatening roar

X2 Light imprisoning mirror

X2 Skill Drain

X3 Beast King Barbarous

Extra Deck: ===15

x1 Toolbox

So, with a deck of 43 cards total, it plays some negation, destruction, field control and a bit of technician (don't like when people say tech).

-------------------

This deck, as I mentioned earlier, looks very nice in theory. I have never tested this deck but plan to in the future. Here is how I think the deck would work though.

I think I should now analyse the deck.

--------------------

X2 Chaos Sorcerer: The main core of the deck. Use this to remove from play opponents monsters or attack for a beating 2300.

X3 Cauis the Shadow Monarch: A DARK monarch that can remove from play a "Stardust Dragon", or any damaging spells or traps, like a newly popular card "Ancient forest". In my mind, the second best monarch (2nd to Raiza).

X3 Zaborg the Thunder Monarch: A LIGHT monarch that has, over the years, been given a bad rep. This card destroys 1 monster on the field when tribute summoned, and is easily topped by Caius and Raiza. The one thing that it can be used for though, is this deck, and a deck that has been in my mind for a long time, "Zaborg Syncro", but that's for a different article. All'in'all, this card is good for a chaos monarch deck.

X1 Dark armed dragon: A must-have for any deck that uses over 5 dark monsters. Not much to explain with this card.

X2 Dark Grepher: An amazing card, searchable by "reinforcement of the army". It let's you drop your one copy of "necro gardna" and pile your graveyard with DARK monsters.

X1 Necro gardna: Drop able by "Dark Grepher" (See above).

X2 Breaker the magical warrior: Now at three, this card can easily set up for big plays with Chaos sorcerer. It could also be a strong 1900 attacker.

X2 Ryko, lightsworn Hunter: Destroys an opponents monster and sends the top three cards of your deck to the graveyard, maybe sending a dark for chaos sorcerer.

X1 Sangan: Searches your deck for a Ryko or necro gardna if you have a "Dark Grepher" in your hand.

X3 Thunder King Rai-oh: An amazing anti-meta card that has been a well known name since it's release. It's also a strong Light 1900 attacker.

X1 Cyber Dragon: A must-have in a monarch deck and a great card for a chaos deck. It's a very good opener.

---------------------------------------------

Now, with the monsters done, I will go to the spells.

---------------------------------------------

X2 Allure of Darkness: A good draw card, since I have 12 DARK monsters in the deck.

X1 Reinforcement of the army: Searches the deck for a "Dark Grepher" or "Necro gardna".

X1 Brain Controller: Good in a monarch deck. Not much else.

X2 Book of moon and X1 Enemy controller: Good defense cards in the format, flipping a "Lightsworn" face down to stop milling or switching a monster to defense/getting control then tributing for monarch.

X1 Gold sarcoaughagus: Searches the deck for anything that you need at the time, or get's something to set up big plays later.

X1 Mystical space typhoon and X1 Heavy storm: Set's up big plays or get's rid of something annoying (i.e. Ancient forest).

X1 Lightning vortex: Main decked because of a lot of swarms happening currently (i.e. Lightsworn, Gadgets, ect.)

X3 Fissure and X1 Smashing ground: Now at three, Fissure is an amazing card to clear up the field and attack for a fair amount of damage. Smashing ground takes out those "Judgment Dragon's".

----------------------------------------

I'll now go over the six traps in the deck.

----------------------------------------

X2 Royal Decree: Stops all those pesky traps, still allowing you to use yours most of the time. Against STUN decks, they cry.

X1 Solemn Judgment: An amazing negation card. Now at 1, you don't draw it as much but that is replaced by other negation cards below.

X2 Dark Bribe: Replacement for the other 2 "Solemn Judgment's".

X1 Call of the haunted: An amazing card for monarch decks (not topping "Monster reborn" though) that allows you to bring back a monster then tribute for a monarch. A good combo, is you activate "Royal decree" during your opponents end phase, and chain this card to that. Since "Royal Decree" hasn't resolved, you can still activate it.

----------------------------

So that ends the main deck. Now on to the Side deck and Extra Deck (kind of).

----------------------------

X3 Legendary Jujitsu master: This card is amazing against gladiator beasts. Since "Gladiator beast" will now be more popular because of it's high showings an "World Championship 2009" in Tokyo, this must be put in the side deck. You probably will never side in 3, but... just in case.

X1 Breaker the magical warrior: If you are playing a spell and trap heavy deck, gladiator beasts, or if you think you will need it, you can just side this in.

X1 Giant Trunade: I couldn't fit this into the main deck but I sided it because, you might sometimes need it. Burn (which I don't understand isn't getting more play #HINT#) is screwed by this card. ( :( trust me)

X3 Threatening Roar: Against "Lightsworn" or any strong OTK deck (Sometimes I just don't have much to say about cards huh).

X3 Light imprisoning mirror: For "Lightsworn" Since this deck really isn't hurt much with their light monsters effects being negated (well...it can work around it), this is good for destroying "Lightsworn's"

X3 Beast King Barbarous and X2 Skill Drain: The little twist that can be sided in to screw with an opponent. I think that in the new format, "Skill Drain" decks will be popular, but that's just me. You could probably side out the royal decrees for the skill drains, and the Barbarous... be creative.

The reason that this deck doesn't play syncros, except for the odd "Enemy controller", or "Brain Control". I also personally don't like that every deck has to run a syncro. What happened to good old decks that didn't run an extra deck. Some don't need one and some are based around them. I just don't find it needed.

With that out of the way, and the deck explained, I will add one more little post. I will explain why I didn't put some cards in the deck.

-D.D. Warrior lady: With this in the deck, I wouldn't have as much targets for chaos sorcerer. and adding it in would be hard as well because I already have 43 cards in the deck and 21 monster. 47 cards would really be overdoing it.

-Cyber valley: Again, something that would give me less targets, and would be hard to fit in.

-Mystic tamato: My only target would be "sangan", other mystic tamatoes or "necro gardna", which wouldn't give me a great selection.

-Shining angel: My only target would be "Ryko, lightsworn hunter", which would be a very bad decision.

-Torrential tribute: I didn't have room to fit it into the deck. I wish I could. Maybe in an updated deck, I will use it. For now though, it is fine left out.

-Mirror force: Same as "torrential tribute". I wish I could've fit it in.

I hope you enjoyed my long explanation of the deck and I would greatly appreciate comments. I enjoy reading what people have to say about my work on decks that I create. Thank-you! :D
