Why is religion such a touchy subject?

Unicorn is less offensive in general because most people don't idolize invisible pink unicorns' date=' despite them being comparable to the idea of a god in this circumstance.

[/quote']

Why should religion and idolization play any factor?

God and the Unicorn are both:

1.) Beliefs.

2.) Questioned by others.

3.) Cannot be proven.

4.) Cannot be disproven.

Icy said those who rant and flame about us questioning the UNICORN cannot debate. Is that the same with God?

I'd rather go straight to the point than use a faux god as an example.

And thats you. But you asked the question Why is religion such a touchy subject?; And I gave you not only an answer' date=' but an alternative when talking about it.

Isn't that what YCM is doing? Ranting and flaming because we say God doesn't exist?

Why should God be any different from the Unicorn? Both are beliefs, and both are being questioned.

To the first. And thats my problem... Because? I just disproved that whole thing. And blew it into fine powder.

To the second. Easy, talking about God directly can be offensive to some, regardless of our control and method. So again, talking about him/she/them through a medium is not a belief. But rather giving you a tool, to ignore that question and place it on something else.

Let me see if I understood you. Instead of questioning God' date=' we question the IPU?

So, we don't make threads about religion anymore. We make threads about the IPU.

And we don't use the word "God" anymore. No, we replace that with "IPU".

[/quote']

Bingo.

And as Akira said on MSN (After I taught him what the IPU is);

"You question God, you question and army of billions;

You question a unicorn, nobody gives a damn."

You call religion an army of billions, but can't the same be said about Atheism?

It is touchy, due to that everybody is entitled to their views, and many views conflict, people accuse each other of being incorrect.

And people don't take it very well when their dearest held beliefs are challenged by a religion/principality/opinion they deem to be incorrect.

It's a vicious circle, religion will be argued about, quite possibly, forever.

No. I doubt "billions" of people are Atheists.

Because it just is, no one can explain truely cuz it's more of a spirital/emotional thing, and one of those things that you could explain it but you can't, ya know what i mean..... It's one of those things that's kinda simple in a way but also complicated

There may be a few million atheists' date=' but there definitely aren't billions.

Okay really guys, why is religion touchier than politics?

[/quote']

Religion is a way of life. It is a guide to how you treat yourself and your fellow man. Politics are just how much you think the populace should be controled by its government.

Now here's an answer I can't seem to find a rebuttal to. I think religion is a foul model of a way of life, but it is one that billions follow.

It's usually because religious people are wankers about their beliefs.

Wankers?

I need to get a British to English dictionary.

Actually' date=' I don't give a damn when someone questions my beliefs. Why should you?

[/quote']

I don't.

Atheists defend their positions, whereas theists just throw around their bullshit.

The difference is there's no logic involved in the latter.

So what you're saying is because we are defending our religious views, it instantly becomes bullshit, as aposed to doing the exact same thing minus God?

tl;dr all the comments.

Here's my two cents.

The reason it gets so heated here, is because more people know more about it. Not going to lie, my knowledge of politics is rudimentary. And even then, I'm pretty apathetic about it. People tend to be passionate about religion, and know a good deal (about whichever faith they follow).

Plus, over the internet, both sides tend to be much more derisive and aggressive in their views and arguments.

Well, you see, the thing is that God is nonexistent, so forming supporting a nonexistent self-absorbed judgmental bully in your argument does, in fact, make your argument complete bullshit.

Whereas you are referring to God in the Torah's sense, most people believe in God as a benevolent father figure.

I'd like to resume the actual topic that HORUS presented us with, you can read the title.

I think someone (can't be bothered to go back) summed it up. On the internet, both sides have more information and can fight with more anger because it is the INTERWEBZ.

However, like tea.leaf said, people just throw around their religious bullshit and make up silly answers like "the bible didnt say dat didnt happn so mayb it did bible dunno all".

A father figure who judges you on whether you thought about him and believed in him when you die so that he can decide whether to put you in heaven or hell.

Sounds like a self-absorbed, judgmental bully to me.
