HORUS
This thread already exists? http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/comments/8pd0b/that_which_can_be_asserted_without_evidence_can/
On another forum. And no, I didn't get the idea from there, I read the quote on a separate webpage and made my own thread.

Felix Culpa
Well that quote is obviously supportive of your cause, HORUS, but think how many people disbelieve you. Over time a religion as large as let's say Christianity, will amass a large amount of followers, thus influencing the country in which they live and that then stifles the intelligence of someone who does not hold true to the beliefs of someone two thousand or more years ago. Honestly, some of the stories in the Bible are outdated. But, then again, scientific theories have no proof. And as such I can say "Oh, black holes? Pfft, that's ridiculous. There's no such thing." And still have my answer justified because there is no proof of black holes, and there is no proof against black holes unless you consider the tedious debate of the scientific world. Then you've also got other theories no one dare rethink, such as the Einstein's theory of relativity, which no one seems to understand unless they have a brain and as such reference to it. Hm, seems I strayed a little of topic.

Then you've also got other theories no one dare rethink, such as the Einstein's theory of relativity, which no one seems to understand unless they have a brain and as such reference to it. Hm, seems I strayed a little of topic. It isn't important how many people disagree with me. What's important is being rational. I understand that the majority is irrational and I mean to try to do something about that. Black holes are a theory, evolution (as so many creationists get wrong) is not just a theory anymore, it's the process backed by almost every scientist. Only 4 percent of scientists working on the human genome project believe there is a God but do not believe in creationism. A scientist for the human genome project, who is also a theist, gave a seminar on how chromosome 2 is extremely strong evidence that humans are linked with great ape. Apes have 48 chromosomes, and humans have 46. Through years of research and study, HGP scientists found that chromosome 2 was 2 fused chromosomes, explaining how we have fewer chromosomes than apes. With black holes, we cannot see the black hole or prove it's there, but we can see how objects in space interact with the black hole. You people don't seem to understand the quote. It means that if you don't back up your statements with tangible evidence, nobody needs to believe you. Evolutionary scientists have incredible evidence, with hundreds (probably thousands) of books written on the subject. Christians have a 5000 year old author-less and under-evidenced book. Even Stephen Hawking's wormhole and space-time bend theories have more evidence than Christianity. Saying the Bible is proof of Christianity's truth is just the same as saying Harry Potter is proof that wizards are real.

Altαir
I learned that in 6th grade... Anyway, the point is that you can prove such with visual evidence... kinda. It is around you, and you can go ahead and prove it. Now if I asked you, "Is there really a such thing as a dinosaur?" You would probably tell me, "Yes." If I asked you to prove it, and you showed me a dinosaur bone, I can say, "That could be fake," or "How do you know that's a dinosaur bone." It's called primary and secondary sources, and since sientists have to base the beginning of life through secondary sources, some people can question their work, and they're powerless to stop them and answer them.
