How can we be independant if the nation that was ruling is before is STILL ruling us?

Declaring something means nothing unless the person ruling you acknowledges it.

Uh..no..

Winning the war just basicly made sure that Britain would not try to attack the USA or try to re-take it again

When the decloration of independance was signed' date=' we declared ourselves free from britain, and a new country. so, at that moment, we where no longer part of britain. After that, we where fighting to keep said freedom

You've never read any of the treaties, have you?

What an idiot...

Well, it's all right, though, because this is your country, after all.

Lol @ idiotic post ^_^

Anyway,

No, we declared ourselves independant of them, thus, they did not rule us any longer. Or did you somehow misread what I wrote before?

My parents are instantly no longer my parents because I said so.

You make so much fucking sense you make Socrates look like an idiot.

Um? Legal disowning?

Think of war as legal disowning.

^ No.

We became independant once we signed that paper. We where no longer under their rule. However' date=' if we lost the war, we would be BACK under their rule. ;)

How does signing a piece of friggin' paper make us independant? With that logic, I could sign a piece of paper saying that I'm president and it would be true.

I am so trying that.

That is what I have been saying all this time. For us to actually be independent, the person who last ruled us (and was still ruling us when and after we signed the DoI) had to accept that we were a free country. :/

Apparently you guys are still missing that this is when we started acting independently from Britain's rule. Jesus YCM. >_>

But we weren't independent on that day. We just signed a peace of paper and declared something. Britain still ruled us until the treaty was signed.

You may think you've been owning, but the Revolutionary War was technically leagle disowning.

1776 was when we declared our selves Americans, not British Colonials trying to break away from British rule, it's as simple as that.
