If you are going to halve the battle damage, then let him attack directly (for 2000 ... yay!!!). 8 counters is still a lot when you can only get the counters by destroying monsters. That is 8 turns of your opponent setting monsters for you to blow up, without him drawing destruction of any kind. not going to happen, more plausible than 13 turns, but still not going to happen.
