Xazeon
I entered my little bro's math class to bring him a copy of our house keys and an answer on the board was: 24 - 9 x 2 = 30 I was thinking WTF? I spoke up and said, "24 - 9 x 2 = 6. Are you sure you remembered the rule? It goes, Parenthsies (sp?), Exponets, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction(Or PEMDAS for short)," Then the teacher gets all pissy and says "Young man, I have never been so insulted in my life. You do not tell me how to teach! Yes, I checked my work, and that PEMDAS crap isn't how I learned it. Go back to your class room!" Discuss this idiot teacher.

Felix
Nah, if it was 24 - 9(2) = 30 then you'd be right and that sum would be wrong but for basic maths the teacher was correct.
Xazeon
@Felix: I can't guarantee how the problem was put out. This was about 3-4 days ago, but I was too lazy to post it.

~ P O L A R I S ~
That teacher needs a good smack on the face. The end is nigh. o_O Oh, and I got taught "BEDMAS" in Grade 8, since apparently division and multiplication are interchangeable and we used "brackets" instead of "parenthesis" in our acronym. No, even before the introduction of order of operations, -6 is still the correct answer. Math doesn't change based on what grade you're in. Technically, -6 is still the correct answer, it's just that in lower grade, the teacher doesn't care.

You always go PEMDAS. If you dont then its wrong. That teacher is teaching all of her students to be retarded when they get in the higher grades. You ALWAYS, I mean ALWAYS use PEMDAS. No matter what. Star Child
we learned Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally(PEMDAS) for math and King Hector Died While Drinking A Glass Of Chocolate Milk(KHDWDGC), or something like that, for science(distance). But that teacher was stupid, kids should be prepared for what's coming in the future, and the teacher needs contacts/glasses and a calculator >.>
