Akira
I recently cleaned my laptop of a really malicious piece of spyware which caused me a lot more hassle than most others, so I thought it'd be best for me to warn you guys about it. Because it is a new threat, AVG and Spybot S&D didn't recognise it, meaning that removal wasn't easy. I'm not sure where it came from exactly (only been browsing the same old websites), but be aware. It's another generic bit of spyware that pretends to be an anti-virus tool and tries to force you into buying their useless software. When I tried to delete it manually, the .exe file (hidden in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data") would "respawn" every restart which I later learned was due to a registry entry, but that is what made getting rid of it so difficult. If this happens to you, either follow the steps to remove it manually here or download Killbox at http://killbox.net/ (a tool which will permanently delete the files). Peace.. Lemniscate
I've been hit by this.I forget the name of the service I used to remove it, but they logged on remotely onto my computer in safe mode, went through all files and registry, and manually cleaned out all infected files. It took about 3 hours, but the virus was completely gone after that. ♥ ЅϯᵲåώӀӞ℮ᴙʀɣ−ɴɨɨ−ƈħåɴ ♥
I don't think this affects Vista... I've been clean of any type of malware for probably six-ish years now. I'm fine.
