You see' date=' the mind is a great tool, but just like your body time starts to play a role. Memories are mental images of a world you once new, they fade over time, and not everything is remembered cleary to begin with so on top of that you have time decaying the clearness of your memories as well. [/quote']

I think it is quite the contrary...you see memories are what we think we remember from certain past events we have experienced.

Psychology has shown us that a group of people can see the exact same thing and yet, come up with different perspectives of what happened.

When I say "the exact same thing", I mean, they were shown a video of the same car accident, from the same perspective.

Shouldn't they have had the same memory of the car crash?

I think not.

I never said that each person would remember something the same way. Memories do form who you are, it is your interpretation of those events that forms who you are. In the end it all comes down to what we have learned over the years that help us interpret events from our passed.

Without the past the future is irrelevant, but without the future the past means nothing.

You can have your opinion that says if someone changes their memory it changes who they are, but I think nothing of that.

For example, 9 years ago I had a dog named sassy, she jumped through a side window towards one of my friends who happened to be black. My dad put her down. Now I remember everything from that. I also now know why he did it, but if I were to forget it or edit it, who i am and how I think would not change in anyway.

your dad harsh much?

Well, mainly because a person is the sum of all parts of themselves, memory being one of them.

You see, what makes a person themselves is their psychological continuity, that a person is connected to them "selves" via their memory(over simplification of the Psychological view...but who cares)

Editing a memory does change who you are. A person would the psychological decision to edit their memories or not. Just like one would have the decision to read a book. After reading the book, who are does not change, the only thing that would change would be the amount you now know.

hmm...let me try to clarify my point.

Take for example, I am a 20 year old person.

Say, under your idea, that I change the first memory of who my mother was, and that I made her to be my best friends sister(It does not matter who she is relative to me after the initial change). My memories of this women would be unfamiliar to the new "BehindTheMask."

Unless I were to misinterpret your first post, in that, by editting, you mean to make clearer, but not change the events. Did I misinterpret?

That you did.

But then again you didn't, you see this thread was a test to see how each person interpreted the question.
