Well in a thread in the mods forum, your staff (at least everyone who participated into the discussion) agreed that several things could be brought back on the site. The pictures and relationship talk thread and... the Awards.

So yeah, I'm a bit slow as you all know but I'm happy to announce that the Awards will be back in November.=)

To start, a brief recap of how everything started.

The first edition of the "YCM Awards" dates back to the 7 May 2007. At that time BS created and hosted the very first version which included a points system and 5 categories to vote in. Best Overall Member, Card Maker, New Member (Only been here for about a month), Nicest and Worst Member (which created some controversy and got removed later on).

 

5 months later, Johanderson posted a slightly different version of the Awards which was set to be run every 3 months. The September 2007 Awards included a revamp of the categories as well as a removal of the points system and each section had a different host who members could send their votes too. However this system didn't prevail for a very long time as it proved to become confusing, so a simpler method was suggested by Deity Mitsu.

In another thread made soon after, which served as a discussion topic and recap of all the winners so far, Frunk became the first to suggest the creation of a Council to manage the Awards, which were rapidly gaining popularity.[/quote made by Frunk himself]

 

This marked the "birth" of the Council.

 

From September 2007 to March 2008 the Awards were held among that line, with the exception of November 2007.

 

In April 2008 the forum saw the emergence of a new system which consisted of dividing the different categories into different sections on the site (for example, there was a separate Custom Cards voting thread in the CC section).

 

After that, the initial Council basically broke up, seeing that some of the old members left and at that point the Awards seemed to be set on ice.

One month later however, Omegawave (now known as Obsidian or -The Dark Master-) revived the Awards by himself, but with many of the old members having left and a new "generation" settling on YCM, it became clear that a new, slightly adjusted system was needed in order to go with the new era. The May 2008 Awards became quite a success, however they were also the last attempt by Omegawave to host them.

 

3 months passed and in August 2008, a person named ~Raven~, who remembered the Awards and wanted to see them back, decided to contact the former Council members and, seeing that some of them replied, the Awards saw their rebirth with a new Council and a nomination system, which was also used in some of the older editions.

 

From then on, the forum saw many new editions of the Awards, the last one known up to this date being the Midsummer Awards hosted by Umbra.

 

At that point a consensus was made about running bi-annual Awards since the whole thing taking place every month had become too close and predictable. However, as of lately, people have been asking to set a new frequency scheme since bringing them back every 6 months only would cause the Awards to become a past event people would forget about.

 

In that sense a new poll was made about how frequently the awards should take place.

Since this is kind of a tabula rasa revival, there will be an entirely new Council, unrelated to the previous ones.

 

What we need/List so far

Host - posts the thread, organizes the event:

Opalmoon (this time since no one else planned to bring them back as far as I know, may change for the next times)

 

Co-Host - replaces the host in case s/he is away or can't continue, similar role to the host: helps with the organization, makes announcements, can edit rules if there is a consensus from all the Council members

Council members - around 4-8 people (minus the graphics person), job consists of overlooking the Awards, discussing/deliberating rules, counting some of the votes, voting in the case of ties, seeing that everything runs smoothly:

We will accept between 4,6 or 8 people + a graphics artist. To make it fair, there will NOT be a team full of mods or veterans so we want at least 2 or 3 newer members (new in that case = who joined in the last 6 months).

 

Graphics person - is on the same level as the regular Council members, can vote for ties and discuss rules too but doesn't need to count votes, handles the layout side of the Awards (winner badges, maybe a banner, etc. / any ideas are welcome)

Note to the mods who replied in the staff forum thread: I know many of you showed interest but please post here too so I can see who's still up to this. If you don't post here we're going to assume that you don't want to/can't be in the Council anymore.

Council members will be picked out.

If you don't get picked, it's nothing personal; a lot of aspects are taken into consideration here. As said before, at least 2 or 3 new members will be accepted.

 

The end date for applications is Monday, the 2nd.

Anything submitted later will not be considered, sorry.

 

The Awards thread will be posted around the 15th and not the 1st since there are still many things to be discussed and changed.

How active are you?: Umm... 8-10 hours, depending on how I feel?

Why should you be picked?: Do I have to write an essay? D: But in all seriousness, I've been interested in the awards since April 2008 and I've tried to follow it ever since. I'd like to think I'm a trustworthy guy, and I'd be honoured to be part of the Council if you'd let me. :)

How Active Are You: From 3:00pm-8:00pm (Except every other weekend)

Why Should I be Picked: I do graphic editing, and I'm quite handy at it. My sig and Avi are not my best work, as I made them in a rush. I can do pretty much everyhing that I think might need to be done with something like this.

How active are you?: Very active. I'm usually online from 8:00 - 9:00 am, 12:00 - 1:00 pm, and various times in the afternoon. (Pacific time) On Saturdays, you can't get me away from here! =P

Why should you be picked?: I'm not biased toward members on this site, I'm always accurate and fair in my decisions, and I'd really like to be a part of something going on around here! I've also had judging experience before in card contests and art graphics contests.

How active are you?: To be honest, about 9 hours a day (I hardly leave my room in the daytime), and on weekends, most of the day and some of the night (About 12 hours).

Why should l be picked?: I have no issues with anyone. I'm very fair; Besides, who wants to see a rigged contest, right? I'm easygoing, l respect a decision, I take and give reasons for a decision well, and many people respect me l believe, so in a way, i'll be helping to attract attention here, so everyone wins in the end.

As you stated you were looking for new members. A new member would be the best idea for an award, because they have an unbiased opinion of each person. Being that they are new they know little to no people. I myself am new, and I like to think that my train of thought and helpfulness would be best for a spot on the Council.

How Active Are You: [E.S.T.] on Weekdays: 3:00PM-8:00PM. Weekends: 6:00AM-9:00PM. I take breaks in those periods as you can imagine

Why Should I be Picked: I think i should be picked because i know almost all the Forums on YCM well. I am really active and am fair with everybody; if someone feels left out i try my best helping them. I try to help out people with there cards and i am a very great with people.

How active are you?: On weekdays I'm on from about 4 to 10 or 11 o' clock. On weekends I'm on almost all day, unless something comes up.

Why should you be picked?: Semi well-known card maker. I'm also nice and easy to befriend. I'm also unbiased and honest.

How active am I?: 4-5 hours on weekdays, 5-9 on weekends. Normally. And in Summer, even longer. Sunday Whenever I get up-9:30, Weekdays 3:30-9:30 except for test days or study days, Friday 3:30-11:30-12:00am, & Saturday Whenever I get up-11:30-12:00am.

Why should I be picked?: I have been on the site awhile, and am well known. You are though looking at a 10 year, 362 day old boy, I am very advanced, & can & will help out members when they are in need, & make them happy. I won't stop until they're satisfied.

You are SO lucky. I type so fast that my spelling is off a lot. that is a good thing needed imo.
