Evil is meerly an absence of good not the absence of a fictional character created in the ancient years futhermore there is more solid fact on evolution then on the bible as we now can more or less see it happen from fossils and traits that reside within animals.

Cold is a perception. Although something cannot be cold, that does not exclude cold from being real. If I were to touch something that is 10 Kelvin, it is cold, to me. If the sun were to touch me, I would be cold, to the sun. Saying that because something does not quantitatively exist, does not make it so.

If I were to say "The opposite of White is Black, and Black is not something" is illogical. If White exists, and the complete opposite is Black, then Black must also exist. To say White exists, but its opposite does not is crazy.

If we're taking something and calling its opposite its absence, and going on to say it doesn't exist because it's just the absence of its opposite, than logically neither of the two opposites exist.

If cold does not exist because it's merely the absence of heat, then heat does not exist because it's the absence of the absence of itself. Conflicting forces or ideas can coexist. Sure, darkness is the absence of light, but light is the absence of darkness.

There's no more reason to have faith in God's existence than to have faith in God not existing.

Calling anything negative non-existent is an extremely optimistic view on life, but is it the only view one can have?

No.

Basically just reinforcing BTM's views here.

Wait' date=' when the kid said: Does anybody believe the professor has a brain? Then, couldn't the professor reply that if he didn't have a brain he would die? Stupid professor on my point of view.

Or you could always cut open his head, or do some advanced medical scan.

That was a pretty stupid remark on the KIDS part, but the professor was a moron as well for not retorting against that. D:

He'd just be unconscious...

Time is just a theory too, does that make it any less true?

The hotter something is, the more energy present.

So, if cold exists and is heat's opposite, does that make ice antimatter?

You don't get it. He's not saying there's heat and cold or darkness and light.

Cold, is just the absence of heat. It's used to describe situations in which there is little heat.

Darkness is the absence of light. It's not the opposite of it.

White and Black are a terrible comparison. Black is the result of pigments absorbing every color. White is the result of pigments reflecting every color. Black isn't the absence of white, it's the opposite.

Saying something exists because it's an abstract concept in your head is silly. I can think of unicorns, so that means they're real? No, I can describe a unicorn, and think I perceive it, but I'm still not seeing it. I'm imagining it. Much like you are imagining cold or darkness is an entity.

You're also just throwing out time, because it's an incredibly deep and unarguable concept. However, the presence of heat and the presence of light can be proven. The only counter argument to that is to deliver the scientific NO U and suggest maybe we're living in some illusion, which is irrelevant, because our world will continue the same whether we're an illusion or not.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you went on to claim nonexistence exists because it's something we can perceive, even though nonexistence is just a word to describe the lack of something.

What he means is that dark has no physical form, and is not a thing present in reality. It's merely a quality we've assigned to the absence of light. Just because something doesn't exist, doesn't mean we need a word to describe it. If you'd like to argue that it exists anyway, that would require faith, thus proving the point of the whole thing.

Having no physical form doesn't mean something doesn't exist' date=' it just means it doesn't exist in a physical form.

Fine. Prove something without physical form doesn't exist.

Why would I when I can't? Everything exists. There is no "something" that doesn't exist. Not necessarily in a physical form, granted, but as soon as an idea's put out there, it exists.

Fine I throw out the idea of God. Not the idea of the belief in God, the idea of God. The Christian God to be precise, if you were planning to refer to the definition of "god" rather than the entity >_>

By your own logic, God exists and atheism is wrong.

But then, let's say I throw out the idea of God not existing.

Because that's an idea, it's true.

We now have a paradox, and your logic is faulty.

So God is lacking God if he isn't going to help areas suffering greatly? :?

You know your argument is flawed when Dan Brown can disprove it!

Lieutenant Chatrand: I don’t understand this omnipotent-benevolent thing.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: You are confused because the Bible describes God as an omnipotent and benevolent deity.

Lieutenant Chatrand: Exactly.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: Omnipotent-benevolent simply means that God is all-powerful and well-meaning.

Lieutenant Chatrand: I understand the concept. It’s just… there seems to be a contradiction.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: Yes. The contradiction is pain. Man’s starvation' date=' war, sickness…

Lieutenant Chatrand: Exactly! Terrible things happen in this world. Human tragedy seems like proof that God could not possibly be both all-powerful and well-meaning. If He loves us and has the power to change our situation, He would prevent our pain, wouldn’t he?

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: Would He?

Lieutenant Chatrand: Well… if God Loves us, and He can protect us, He would have to. It seems He is either omnipotent and uncaring, or benevolent and powerless to help.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: Do you have children?

Lieutenant Chatrand: No, signore.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: Imagine you had an eight-year-old son… would you love him?

Lieutenant Chatrand: Of course.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: Would you let him skateboard?

Lieutenant Chatrand: Yeah, I guess. Sure I’d let him skateboard, but I’d tell him to be careful.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: So as this child’s father, you would give him some basic, good advice and then let him go off and make his own mistakes?

Lieutenant Chatrand: I wouldn’t run behind him and mollycoddle him if that’s what you mean.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: But what if he fell and skinned his knee?

Lieutenant Chatrand: He would learn to be more careful.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: So although you have the power to interfere and prevent your child’s pain, you would choose to show you love by letting him learn his own lessons?

Lieutenant Chatrand: Of course. Pain is part of growing up. It’s how we learn.

Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca: Exactly.

Atheism doesn't deny that God exists as an idea, just as a physical form. I have no evidence to refute their beliefs and won't. I'm an agnostic, and your claim of my logic being faulty seems rather baseless.

God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when

what if good doesn't exist in the first place, and both good and evil are products of man's imagination. Suppose that only choice is what makes "good and evil" look as they appear. Murdering for revenge can be seen as good and evil, but it is only opinion of one's choice.

You're applying this to one of the least painful things there is. If a God isn't willing to intervene with Earthly affairs, a heaven and hell system seems awfully unfair.

Also this, along with the fact that we can't control our actions.
