Microevolution we know to be fact because it has been studied and documented, Macroevolution has not and probably cannot be proven because of the enormous time span it requires, so Evolution will always be just theory. And to answer phantomduelist's question. Species that do not adapt to a radically changing environment become extinct. That is basically Evolution, a genetic change in a species that allows it to adapt to a changing environment. you should read "The Origin of Species" it's a good read, for those with open-mind's. I myself am not a very religious person, but I still find the Bible a very interesting read.

Guest JoshIcy
Imho... There's one great way to prove evolution... Stick to a species that has an OK lifespan, (like a fly). And put it in its ideal enviorment for 20-100yrs. Constantly maintain it and introduce new things as time arises. ie: Biodome. So that 1 flys life = Human Life of a Human. 2 weeks = 100yrs for a fly? That would mean that 1 human year = 5200yrs.100 yrs = 520'000yrs. More than enough to sustain evolution and see the results. Problem is maintaining it. But, it could prove Evolution in a visual state as it's happening.

I did not contradict myself. It's the same deal as gravity being a fact and The Theory of Gravity being a theory. One is what happens, and one is a possible explanation of why it happens. Micro and macroevolution are merely different scales to view evolution at. Microevolution would be something like observing the changes in allele frequency over multiple generations in a population of fruit flies. Macroevolution would almost certainly involve some sort of fossil evidence, as is the case with the macroevolution of whales.

Or do you think some other phenomenon happened to create the universe?[/quote'] Again, not mutually exclusive. Since there is no way to prove what happened at the beginning of time without something like a time machine, all we can do is postulate. At this time, the Theory of the Big Bang is the theory with the most credibility, but that could conceivably change over time, if new evidence is revealed or someone thinks up a new theory that requires less leaps in logic. The Dark One
I read the first one a nd a half pages of this thread. Then I thought: This thread is stupid Then I finished reading the thread. Now I think: This thread has miraculously become a lot less stupid. Seriously. Any time there's a debate, it seems to degenerate into trolling. This thread did, but then it rose out of the trolling. That's pretty cool. ;) Good job YCM. Also, evolution is the changing of a species' characteristics over time. This has been observed, and isn't denied by anybody. Or at least shouldn't be. The Theory of Evolution is a theory stating that this change is caused by a process called Natural Selection. Otherwise known as logic. If there are two people. One is naturally stronger than the other. Each is attacked by a bear. The stronger one is more likely to survive. He reproduces, and his offspring inherit his trait in the same way that children look like their parents. I mean seriously, what is there to doubt? Evolutionary theories get a whole lot more complex as get into the semantics, with stuff like Game Theory, the selfish gene, etc. all playing a role. We can all sit here and dispute the validity of these individual details, but the grand concept is just logical. Oh, and evolution, either the process or the Theory, is completely irrelevant to the formation of this planet or of the universe. So whoever said that thing about the Earth popping into existence and animals appearing out of nowhere is not only an idiot who does not at all understand the processes he's trying to demean, but is also mixing completely diparate subjects together. Guest Chaos Pudding
I read the first one a nd a half pages of this thread. Then I thought: This thread is stupid Then I finished reading the thread. Now I think: This thread has miraculously become a lot less stupid. Seriously. Any time there's a debate' date=' it seems to degenerate into trolling. This thread did, but then it rose out of the trolling. That's pretty cool. ;) Good job Chaos Pudding.[/quote'] Fix'd. Dark
Let's look at a monkey, Monkey X. This monkey likes bananas. But it's hands cannot grip bananas. Another monkey, Monkey B. This monkey likes bananas. But it's hands can grip bananas. Over time, Monkey X will die, Monkey B won't. But now, big flood is coming. Monkey R can swim. Monkey B cannot. Monkey B and Monkey R reproduce to create Monkey E, which can both grip bananas and swim. Monkey E will survive. Reproduction and adaptation forms what we know to be evolution. And you cannot deny reproduction and adaptation exist.

God has always been a work of the human imagination and a way to try understanding what we could not at the moment.
Dark
Silly me, I forgot to show an example of adaptation. So Monkey E can now swim and grip bananas, but when it's fur touches water, it explodes. The monkey doesn't die from this, but it's left vulnerable to nature. Over time, the monkey will reproduce, and offspring will adapt to this by "creating" fur that doesn't explode. After series of reproductions, there will be a monkey who can swim, grip bananas and have fur that will not explode. Monkey H.
SmallieBigs
I just thought of another reason or just a fact how about evolution is bogus and real now what do you guys have to say now. Also I hate how the bible works it's like this "God saved our lives He saved our lives." It just capitzalizes pronouns even though it is against the rules of grammar.
