Recently, I have had this chat through pm with Icy where we discussed a philosophy for a second:

 

"Your house is my house. My house is your house."

Kindness to your neighbors. Though strangers, the hearts of all should be good to one to another.

It's sad though, that in most places this doesn't apply. Since crime rate is so high people are afraid to do so.

Even if crime levels weren't high we in America still wouldn't accept this. Well maybe some, but a majority wouldn't. The people of America like very much to avoid contact with other people. And I have Asian neighbors (Taiwan). They don't talk much, but once in a while we share a meal.

In the old days, even in the early 20'th century, if you needed shelter, you could stay at a stranger's house no problem. Today sucks with it's "Stalkers, pedophiles and rapists", well I'm not saying they don't exist more than they did then, it's that more people are overly concious of this, and this is a mixed blessing. Also, I wasn't taking a shot at you. I had to use the same word, so I emphasized it seeing as you spelled it wrong. And, your grandma being a lawyer has no effect on how those people will treat you. Seeing as if they want it, they'll take it.
