The Chinese Water Torture, a form of torture used to drive the victim insane :D

 

"Victims were strapped down so that they could not move, and cold water was then dripped slowly on to a small area of the body. The forehead was found to be the most suitable point for this form of torture: prisoners could see each drop coming, and after long durations were gradually driven frantic as an increasing hollow would form in the centre of the forehead." - Wiki

Back then at the medieval times are when the real painful tortures came P:

 

Example;

 

The Judas Cradle

 

"The Judas Cradle, a terrible medieval torture where the victim would be placed on top of a pyramid-like seat. The victim's feet were tied to each other in a way that moving one leg would force the other to move as well - increasing pain.

 

The triangular-shaped end of the judas cradle was inserted in the victim's ---- or ------ . This torture could last, depending on some factors discussed below, anywhere from a few hours to complete days."

Tortures in itself is generally really messed up, and most actually rather than involve physical pain are usually emotional/mental pain.

 

Example from "The Pit and the Pendulum" which was based on actual tortures from the Spanish Inquisition.

 

The victims would wake up somewhere. In this 'somewhere' they probably come to the conclusion it is a closed area due to it being absolute darkness and they can't see anything meaning there is no light getting in.(in the book he also wakes up next to the wall)

 

They would spend there days waiting and walking in absolute darkness and whenever they would pass out or sleep, someone would enter the area leave food near by and leave. Once again they would wake up with food and drinks near by. Prolonging their death.

- the box were made of metal. Oxygen would travel in through the bolts, they were tighten all the way and the air would go through the screws. However the way screws work no light would make it through.

-So they were stripped of sight(try walking through your house blindfolded for 30 minutes. Chances are you will go mad and take off the blindfold.)

-Because they are blind, even if there was an exit they lose hope because the wall, lack of light, and darkness automatically makes them believe it's enclosed.

-The metal is thick(about 10 inches I believe). So they can't hear anything either other than themselves.

- With no time, sight, direction, and hearing. People would lose track of time. People who lived reported they felt like they've been in the box for maybe about 2 years, when in reality this happened only a span of 1 month.

 

The torture would just make them wander until they die, which was usually after about 2-3 months. Usually when they get bored and stop feeding them, or they refuse to eat themselves to starve to death. It was even noted that sometimes if they don't seem to be bothered by it much they would tie them down(usually put drugs in their food.) and dismember there legs and arm and tie up their wounds.

 

When they would awake(assuming they don't mid surgery) the only view they get to see is light coming from the ceiling(they leave the door open on purpose, knowing he can't reach it.)

physical torture might work faster, but is more gruesome. If they don't end up dead, they'll wish they were.

Mental can get more creative. Like it was somewhere in cuba, they needed to get someone out of their

house alive. He was armed, so they started playing annoying noises to force him to get out. They used

things like crying babies, nails on chalk, barney. It worked.
