CinnamonStar
Traditions suck. They are limiting and/or demanding. They are also Christian. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.Ever heard of Yule? Samhain? Summer and winter solstice? That stuff these ancient people used to celebrate thousands of years ago and are being revived by Neopagans these days. Anyway the only "tradition" in my case I'd say is Christmas, as a get together and family event. I spend a lot of time abroad so obviously it's pleasant to come home for a few days.:)But most of all it's a "social" tradition to get together and give presents. I'm sick of people still rolling over "Christmas = Christian" or "Christmas = Pagan". It is a synthesis between Pagan and Judeo-Christian customs, but the fact that it's celebrated in many places in the world, even by Japanese Shintoists, and that most people don't care about the roots anymore says enough. My family hasn't mentioned Jesus OR Mithras on Christmas for ages. Dweller of Parables
I once wrote a three-page essay on how tradition hinders progress' date=' but I'll refrain from posting it, as the contents would likely get me banned.[/quote'] Mind if you PM me this essay? I'm kind of in the mood to read something that seems interesting. @ Thread: Dear Thread, may you see traditions not just as a mere excuse for families to get together but for old customs to pass from one generation to the next... Amen.
