Evolution is a fact, same as gravity.

No shit.

Random bold tags is random?

Anyway, I've seen enough misinformation and ignorance in this forum to not let something as obvious as this just be taken for granted.

They get around the word filters. :3

Eh, you're referring to specific people though, so a whole thread to define one point isn't worth it. There is much to discuss here either, hence my post.

Eh' date=' I wouldn't say its a "fact" as much as a "well-supported theory." But, that's just my opinion. I understand how evolution is a believable theory, but how does it explain the origin of life? (This is not a rhetorical question. I am being serious.)

You misunderstand. Evolution, the act, is inarguable. It is what is. It is testable in a lab, it can be observed, ect. The Theory of Evolution is a possible explanation of how evolution works. And no one said anything about the origin of life. That's covered by other theories.

The origin of life is a different theory, and science has many well-supported ones. It generally goes along the lines of "chemicals hit together randomly and made something, repeat a load of times, eventually it made a life, a tiny thing, that reproduced, evolved, ect, now we have all the animals and stuff we got." I think.

Eh, a rather typical statement by a Christian. I'm not going to bash you like many others here would, but I'll ask a question. Do you believe that evolution is fact (despite the fact that it is, as Chaos Pudding explained, it can be observed, etc.), or do you still go by 'God created all life'?

That's sort of what we think, although we think it was less random than it seems. We think that, perhaps, instead of entire amino acid sequences being spontaneously arranged, like a slot machine with a million of random slots, it was rather like a slot machine with the ability to "hold" certain slots, like a gambler would "hold" a promising pair of cherries.

Evolution is change in the genetic material of a population of organisms from one generation to the next, thus, it is not a theory, it is a fact of human nature and other beings. People who say it's a theory is ultimately wrong, for all we would know we could be a 10ft green, slimy thing. Evolution is real, and for people who oppose it isn't (highly undoubtedly), look at the facts, are we two metre tall apes?

Dark Energy owns Gravity.

Actually it was proven in the 70s that antimatter (they actually made antihydrogen) reacts to gravity in the exact same way matter does.

On Topic: The better question would be "Why DO we question the theory of evolution?"

But antimatter =/= dark energy.

Oh ok. That explains a lot. The reason why some people question evolution is because they (like I just did mistakenly), mistake the act of evolution with the entire theory of how the universe came to be. In other words, when some people hear "evolution", in their minds, they hear "atheism" at which point they completely tune out. So, sorry if I inadvertently pissed somebody off. I mean absolutely no offense.

And, out of pure curiosity. How the hell do you "observe" something that takes thousands of years to take place? Technology these days...

And no one knows what dark energy is' date=' if it even exists. So the point it moot.[hr']

I'm a confirmed Roman Catholic. The Theory of Evolution is not mutually exclusive with belief in God.

Please tell me WTF dark energy is????

It was proven that matter and antimatter upon conversion both produce the same type of energy. So how are you supposed to...make dark energy???
