Evolution is a fact, same as gravity.

What color is that?

Evolution sounds logic ' date=' but i don't believe it.... , i don't believe that we Humans and evolued from some apes.... <.<

[/quote']

We didn't evolve from apes.

We shared a common ancestory with them.

Saying we evolved from apes would be like saying "Our first cousin gave birth to us"

Hey' date=' I'm not that stupid you know!

And to close a thread, you must give a finishing yet neutral response, don't you?

[/quote']

Eh, I didn't say you were. You've proven to be knowledgeable in Science in this thread. But the term "feeding the trolls" isn't exactly well-known.

BehindTheMask: OMG it's near impossible to prove the unexistence of something when stating it's existence is also based on no proof!

1) Actually, its non-existence.

2) It is impossible to say something does not exist(except in Math).

This is due to the 2 realities - Objective and Subjective.

Think of Objective reality as "Actuality." That, collectively, everything in this state of existence can change or be changed by something else in this state. (i.e. A ball is dropped, gravity acts upon it, and then the ball hits the ground)

Think of Subjective reality as "Personal" Reality. Thus, anything that is in this reality only applies to the beholder. For example, I can say "God exists and no matter what you say, nothing can change this." This is my subjective reality. Things in this reality cannot change things in Objective reality.

BACK ON TOPIC THOUGH:

Gravity is very curious. We don't really understand it fully, and if we can fully understand it, we can use it for manipulation.

I just like to randomly contradict people, and when I actually agree with them, I do that by not saying a damn thing. And you Dweller give me an urge of contradiction and defense like no one else on this forum, maybe except for .frisson.

A: But aren't we off topic?

B: Yes, but the topic is evolution.

A: Ow...ok then.

BehindTheMask: Subjective realities last for 70 years. The Objective reality lasts for ever.

And I, along with most people, do hope that gravity could be harnessed, because that would contradict the Second law of Thermodynamics and grant us free energy, according to the Anti Wheel theory.

@Dark Phoenix: Gravity is a force' date=' much like the Weak and Strong Forces and the EM Force.

That is, Gravity, as a force, is a push or pull upon matter. In specific, gravity is the attraction between objects of mass.

We DO know that this is what gravity is, because gravity is the word we have assigned the this force, which has been observed in action repeatedly. It is correct to say that we don't fully understand the processes upon which gravity may be founded (it is suspected that gravity is carried by a particle called a graviton, but it's all theoretical at this point.), but that is not the same as saying that we don't know whether or not gravity exists.

Also, we didn't evolve from monkeys. Monkeys simply evolved from the same common ancestor as we did. There's quite a distinction there.

This is basically what I meant. =]

Oh, and:

It's near impossible to prove the unexistence of something when stating it's existence is also based on no proof!

This is one of the reasons Christians like myself believe in God, to some extent.

How we observe and measure evolution: Well, there are multiple ways of doing this. For instance, there is this island in the Galapagos that has a certain species of finch. That species of finch has a gene that determines its beak size. The beak size can either be small, large, or medium. The size of the beak determines what kind of food it can eat. If a drought happens, and there are fewer small seeds to eat, the birds with larger beaks are able to eat the more numerous hard/large seeds, therefor they have more opportunities to pass their genes on to the next generation. The large beak variety is more frequent in the next generation. This is what evolution is: gene frequency changes over time. If the drought were to continue for several years, most likely the small beak variation would be wiped out or would migrate, and over a longer period of time, the large beak finch and the small beak finch would be too different from one another to interbreed, therefor they would be different species at that point.

Note that there are other ways to observe evolution, such as observing how certain types of bacteria adapt to various antibiotics, and various other methods.

What gravity is: the mutual attraction of 2 or more bodies that have mass.

Now, any more questions?

*facepalm*

You believe in something because it can't be proven false? Listen, I have no problem with believing in a higher power, but basing it on something so idiotic is insulting to everyone around you.

Notice I said to some extent, by which I mean we have faithful evidence that God does exists. Understanding the every day miracles or "phenomenons" being one of them.

Please, I'm dying to know: what "everyday miracles" are you talking about?

And what does any of that have to do with differentiating between a scientific fact and a scientific theory?

Like surviving a head on collision between a large trucker or having a bullet lodged in your brain and surviving it.

Science can explain it' date=' sure, but I look at it as nothing short of a blessing.

Oh, and I wasn't addressing science. Science and religion are two different things.

[/quote']

What you call a blessing another would call luck. It's just how we chose to view them.

And since you admitted to being off topic, why not get back to it? So tell me: do you know the difference between a fact and a theory, as far as science is concerned?
