It has been proven to cause several problems over even short time span. 1) Loss of motor skills...how would you like to be killed by a pothead on the road? 2) Smoke inhalation is long term dangerous to the lungs, heart, skin, hair, throat, mouth, teeth, gums, tongue, and has been linked to decreased bone density 3) THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), the leading chemical is known to cause damage to the memory, balance, hearing, sight, muscular system, motor controls (fine and gross), smell, taste, hair growth, kidneys, liver, pancreas, and heart. Courtesy of the CDC. Fact: None of the medical tests currently used to detect brain damage in humans have found harm from marijuana, even from long term high-dose use. An early study reported brain damage in rhesus monkeys after six months exposure to high concentrations of marijuana smoke. In a recent, more carefully conducted study, researchers found no evidence of brain abnormality in monkeys that were forced to inhale the equivalent of four to five marijuana cigarettes every day for a year. The claim that marijuana kills brain cells is based on a speculative report dating back a quarter of a century that has never been supported by any scientific study. Heath, R.G., et al. “Cannabis Sativa: Effects on Brain Function and Ultrastructure in Rhesus Monkeys.” Biological Psychiatry 15 (1980): 657-690.Ali, S.F., et al. “Chronic Marijuana Smoke Exposure in the Rhesus Monkey IV: Neurochemical Effects and Comparison to Acute and Chronic Exposure to Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in Rats.” Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior 40 (1991): 677-82. Fact: Marijuana produces immediate, temporary changes in thoughts, perceptions, and information processing. The cognitive process most clearly affected by marijuana is short-term memory. In laboratory studies, subjects under the influence of marijuana have no trouble remembering things they learned previously. However, they display diminished capacity to learn and recall new information. This diminishment only lasts for the duration of the intoxication. There is no convincing evidence that heavy long-term marijuana use permanently impairs memory or other cognitive functions. Fact: There is no compelling evidence that marijuana contributes substantially to traffic accidents and fatalities. At some doses, marijuana affects perception and psychomotor performances- changes which could impair driving ability. However, in driving studies, marijuana produces little or no car-handling impairment- consistently less than produced by low moderate doses of alcohol and many legal medications. In contrast to alcohol, which tends to increase risky driving practices, marijuana tends to make subjects more cautious. Surveys of fatally injured drivers show that when THC is detected in the blood, alcohol is almost always detected as well. For some individuals, marijuana may play a role in bad driving. Izaran
Well...they TRIED banning booze...THAT WORKED! LOL. I just think this is a doubles edged sword. 1) keeping it illegal FILLS our courts with endless dockets of crap over possession charges. It also fills our prisons with relatively good people, where we should be putting hardened violent criminals in them instead. 2) it DOES cause a degrade to society, but at the same time if its legal less people would use...because the best way to MAKE something popular is to ban it. 3) We DO need the income from legal pot to help boost the economy. Maybe in time it will go the way of the cigarette...which is dying. 4) I am extremely worried about the economy so that might be the one thing that gets me on the boat. But I still oppose pot on a moral level. I enjoy my weapon to be sharper then ever: My mind.

Izaran
To appease the pot supporters: Go for it. Maybe the long term effects of legal weed wont be that bad. Maybe it may even be good. Or it could be really bad. No way to tell until the law is passed... And I will admit it is only a matter of time till it is legalized. So for now hold your breath! =^.^=
Look ladies and Gentalmen i am above the age og 16 and i have tryed Alchohal, Weed, And the old wise Nicotine. Now when Ciggarets were just getting started they were only the Tabaco no additives no nothing just Tabaco. Now that theve added the addictive stuff those chemicals are just makeing it worse! On the filtes they do help a little bit it stops some of them but did ya think the filter didnt have any in them? When the filters are heated by the Warm Smoke they relese different toxins that are worse so basicly our screwed with or withought one. Now you know my comment about when Tabaco was just Tabaco if the Legalized Weed they would just add more chemials in it to worsen it so for now its better that Ciggarets or Alcohal Weed is not adictive and it dose slow down cancer Development but temperarily kills short term brain cells in other words they do come back so really it dosnt matter at this point People will do what they want anyways! And i dont get something why do we have these "Laws" if god gave us the choice of Freadom?

Willieh
I know I'm kind of posting in a thread that is on it's way to being dead. But I found this amusing: The chart below compares the number of deaths attributable to selected substances in a typical year: Tobacco...............................340,000 - 395,000 Alcohol (excluding crime/accidents).............125,000+ Drug Overdose (prescription)............24,000 - 27,000 Drug Overdose (illegal)...................3,800 - 5,200 Marijuana.............................................0 *Source: U.S. Government Bureau of Mortality Statistics, 1987
