Newb Defense League (N.D.L.) Archetype

Just me posting the Newb Defense League Member Cards that I've created over the last few months. Will probably update.

 

The reasons for the descrepancies between the card lists and the cards themselves is because some were holoed and then were moved from one list to the other; or another monster took their number and had to be changed.

Background

 

The Newb Defense League (or "N.D.L.") Archetype was first seen in August 2009, with the first three cards, "Lrovani", "Max Darkness" and "Animefan123" surfacing. Others quickly followed and the set grew rapidly in size. Shortly after, Dr.Gentle and others released specific support for the archetype with Spell and Trap Cards varying from general to unique support.

 

This set also contained the sub-Archetype "Purple" monsters, based around "N.D.L. Soul-Fire", "N.D.L. Serenade" and some Equip Spell Cards. This set grew slightly with the release of "N.D.L. Lord Ursus" in December.

 

The original set stopped production later that month with the departure of Lrovani, then known as .:JBM:.. In December, the archetype was revitalised with the second set known as "Dark Rebirth", signifying the club's tenure under .:JBM:.'s successor Max Darkness. This new set added follow-up cards for old members and introduced new members and support; including the first "N.D.L."-specific Field Spell Card "Newb Forest".

 

 

Weaknesses

 

A lot of "N.D.L." monsters are Level 4 or lower, to facilitate swarming, but can leave you with a very poor defense if you do not draw the rarer, higher-leveled monsters.

 

 

Strengths

 

In both sets, the focus has been on the protection and survival of the Level 4 or lower (non-Tribute) monsters. In the "Dark Rebirth" set, this is shown even more, with most cards having more defensive effects than their earlier counterparts ("N.D.L. Sweeny Todd" aka "Animefan123" is a severe exception); "N.D.L. Max Darkness" being a prime example and a specific support monster in the form of "Newb Defense Droid".

 

The pinnacle of an "N.D.L." Deck has changed between the two sets. In the first, one would wish to Summon "N.D.L. Lrovani (.:JBM:.)" due to its protection and shielding effects; or use "Admin Mode Activate" to Summon one of "N.D.L. Animefan123/Admin Mode", "N.D.L. Max Darkness/Admin Mode" or "N.D.L. SupremeGamesmaster/Admin Mode"; due to the trio's powerful effects: The first giving a swarm of powered-up monsters; the second for its Summoning effect and brute power; and the third for its ability to manipulate your Monster and Spell & Trap Card Zones.

 

In the "Dark Rebirth" set, the majority of the set's strength comes from "N.D.L. Max Darkness" and "N.D.L. Sweeny Todd". This pair of Level 8 monsters can temporarly Special Summon each other to bolster themselves. Also, since "N.D.L. Max Darkness" now has two forms, both could be Summoned simultanously, allowing the Summoning of the "Dark Rebirth" set's trump card.

 

"N.D.L. Max Darkness - Dichotomy" has power on par with "N.D.L. Lrovani"; albeit in an offensive form: It's effect allows it to maximise damage caused to your opponent, aided by the swarming ability of the "N.D.L." monsters.

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Tributing 3 "N.D.L." monsters on your side of the field. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, Level 4 or lower monsters cannot be destroyed by battle. (Damage calculation is applied normally.) As long as this card remains face-up on the field, each time a Level 4 or lower monster on your side of the field is attacked, you can Special Summon 1 "Newb Defense Token" (Warrior-Type/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 1000) in face-up Defense Position.

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except with "Admin Mode Activate". This card is also treated as a Fiend-Type monster. Each time your opponent summons a monster(s), Special Summon 1 "Shadow Token" (Dragon-Type/DARK/Level ?/ATK 0/DEF 0). This token's Level is equal to the number of monsters on your side of the field. Once per turn, during your End Phase, you can Tribute 1 "Shadow Token" on your side of the field. If you do, Special Summon 1 "N.D.L." monster whose Level is equal to that of the Tributed Monster from your Deck or Graveyard. When this card on the field is destroyed, you can Special Summon 1 "N.D.L. Max Darkness" from your Graveyard.

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except with "Admin Mode Activate". When this card is summoned, Special Summon any number of Level 6 or lower "N.D.L." monsters from your hand or Deck. Those monsters' effects are negated. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all "N.D.L." monsters gain 400 ATK and DEF. When this card on the field is destroyed, you can Special Summon 1 "N.D.L. Animefan123" from your Graveyard.

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except with "Admin Mode Activate". This card is also treated as a Warrior-Type monster. Each time your opponent activates a Spell or Trap Card, put 1 Astros Counter on this card. Once per turn, during your Draw Phase, you can remove Astros Counters from this card in multiples of 2. If you do, select a number of Card Zones on the field equal to half the number of removed counters. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, the selected Card Zones are treated as both Monster Card and Spell & Trap Card Zones. When this card on the field is destroyed, you can Special Summon 1 "N.D.L. Supreme Gamesmaster" from your Graveyard.

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Tributing 2 DARK "N.D.L." monsters you control. This card is also treated as a Sea Serpent-Type monster. Each time your opponent Summons a monster(s), put 1 Shadow Counter on this card (Max. 8). "N.D.L." monsters you control gain 100 ATK for each Shadow Counter on this card, during Damage Calculation only. If this card is removed from the field, it is removed from play.

Effect: This card is also treated as a DARK monster. When this card is Summoned, Special Summon up to 2 Level 4 or lower "N.D.L." monsters from your hand or Deck. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all "N.D.L." monsters gain 200 ATK and DEF. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, you can Tribute 1 Level 5 or higher "N.D.L." monster you control. If you do, Special Summon this card in face-up Defense Position during your End Phase.

Effect: 1 "N.D.L." Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Synchro Summon. This card is also treated as an EARTH monster. When this card is Summoned, add 1 "One Man's Universe" to your hand and activate it. Once per turn, during your End Phase, Special Summon 1 "Universe Token" (Thunder-Type/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0). This token cannot declare an attack. When this card is removed from the field, destroy all monsters Special Summoned by this card's effect.

Effect: 1 "N.D.L." Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

When this card is Summoned, select 1 monster your opponent controls. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, the selected monster cannot declare an attack. Once per turn, during your Standby Phase, you can reduce this card's ATK by half, until your End Phase. If you do, this card can attack your opponent directly during your Battle Phase.

Effect: This card can only be Normal Summoned or Set if there is a face-up Thunder-Type monster on the field. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, once per turn, you can skip your Draw Phase. If you do, add 1 removed from play "N.D.L." monster to your hand. Each time this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, your opponent removes 1 card in their hand from play.

Effect: This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card is also treated as a Fiend-Type monster. Each time your opponent activates a Spell or Trap Card, add 1 "Mask" Spell or Trap Card from your Deck to your hand. Twice per turn, if this card would be destroyed by battle, you can discard 1 "Mask" card from your hand or field. If you do, this card is not destroyed and any Battle Damage this card's controller takes is reduced to 0. When this card is removed from the field, pay Life Points equal to the number of "Mask" cards discarded by this card's effect x 400.

Effect: This card is also treated as a DARK monster. This card cannot be Special Summoned except from the Graveyard. During each of your Standby Phases, put 1 Delano Counter on this card (Max. 2). If this card is destroyed, you can destroy a number of cards on the field equal to the number of Delano Counters on this card. If you do not, Special Summon this card in Attack Position.

Effect: Each time either player Summons a monster(s), add 1 Blue Counter, Red Counter or Yellow Counter to this card (Max. 8). When this card is destroyed remove all counters from this card. Special Summon 1 FIRE monster whose Level is equal to the number of removed Red Counters. Special Summon 1 LIGHT monster whose Level is equal to the number of removed Yellow Counters. Special Summon 1 WATER monster whose Level is equal to the number of removed Blue Counters.

Effect: This card can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual Spell Card "Ritual of the Newbs". Once per turn, if this card would be destroyed by battle, it is not. (Damage calculation is applied normally.) As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all non-"N.D.L." monsters lose 300 ATK. When this card is removed from the field, it is returned to your Deck.

Effect: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Tributing 2 "N.D.L." monsters you control. The controller of this card pays 400 Life Points during each of their End Phases (this is not optional). When this card is Summoned, destroy all face-down cards your opponent controls. Once per turn, if this card would be destroyed by a card effect, you can pay 600 Life Points. If you do, negate the effect.

Effect: This card is also treated as a Machine-Type monster. If this card is destroyed by battle by a FIRE monster, increase the Battle Damage by 500. Once per turn, you can remove this card in your Graveyard from play to increase the ATK of all Level 5 or higher "N.D.L." monsters you control by 700, until the End Phase.

Effect: The Fusion Materials for this card are any Level 4 or lower "N.D.L." monster and any Level 4 DARK monster. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, once per turn, you can discard 2 cards from your hand. If you do, add 1 DARK "N.D.L." monster from your hand to your Deck. During your End Phase you can Tribute this card to add 1 "Earthbound Immortal" monster to your hand from your Deck or Graveyard.

Effect: This card is also treated as a Zombie-Type monster. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all monsters on your side of the field are treated as DARK monsters. When this card is destroyed by a non-LIGHT monster, Special Summon this card during your End Phase. If this card is destroyed by a LIGHT monster, it is removed from play.

Effect: This card is also treated as a DARK monster. Each time this card destroys a monster by battle, Special Summon 1 "DemonX Minion" (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 2/ATK 500/ DEF 500). The summoned monster cannot be Tributed and cannot declare an attack. This card gains 150 ATK for each face-up Level 2 or lower monster on the field. When this card is removed from the field, destroy all monsters Special Summoned by this card's effect.

Effect: When this card is Summoned, you can Special Summon up to 3 Level 5 or lower Beast-Type monsters from your Deck in Attack Position. If you do, pay an amount of Life Points equal to the number of monsters Summoned x 500. This card gains 300 ATK for each monster on your side of the field. When this card is removed from the field, Special Summon 1 Level 6 or lower Beast-Warrior-Type monster from your Deck in face-up Defense Position.

Effect: This card can attack your opponent directly. Once per turn, during your End Phase, if you control less monsters than your opponent, Special Summon 1 "N.D.L." monster from your Deck whose Level is equal to the number of monsters on your opponent's side of the field.

Effect: This card is not treated as a DARK Fiend-Type monster while it is face-up on the field. Once per turn, during your Draw Phase, select 1 Level 8 or lower "N.D.L." monster in your hand or Graveyard. This card is treated as the selected monster and this card's ATK and DEF are treated as equal to the selected monster's original ATK and DEF until your opponent's End Phase. When this card is destroyed, Special Summon the selected monster in Attack Position. When this card is removed from the field, it is removed from play.

Effect: This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set except by Tributing 2 "N.D.L." or Warrior-Type monsters. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all non-Warrior-Type monsters must be summoned in face-up Defense Position. Once per turn, you can Tribute 1 Warrior-Type monster. If you do, this card gains 800 ATK, until your End Phase. If this card attacks your opponent directly, your opponent discards all non-Warrior-Type monsters in their hand.

This token cannot declare an attack or be Tributed, except by this card's effect. This card gains 200 ATK for each Machine-Type monster on the field. When this would be destroyed, you can Tribute 1 "F.Z. Token". If you do, this card is not destroyed. (Damage calculation is applied normally.)

As long as this card remains face-up on your side of the field, your opponent cannot select a face-up LIGHT monster as an attack target except "N.D.L. Pikachu". Once per turn during your Main Phase, you can select 1 Level 5 or higher monster on your opponent's side of the field. The selected monster loses 1500 ATK. If you do, this card is destroyed during your End Phase.

Effect: This card cannot attack during the turn that it is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned, or Special Summoned. When "Toon World" on the field is destroyed, this card is also destroyed. If "Toon World" is on your side of the field and your opponent does not control a Toon Monster, this card can attack your opponent directly. Once per turn, you can pay 700 Life Points to Special Summon 1 Level 5 or lower "N.D.L." monster from your Deck.

If you do, Special Summon 1 "N.D.L." monster whose Level is equal to the number of removed Turtle Counters.

When this card is removed from the field, all Spellcaster-Type monsters lose 500 ATK.

Effect: Monsters this card destroys are removed from play instead. This card loses 200 ATK during each of your End Phases. If this card is destroyed by battle, Special Summon it in face-down Defense Position during your opponent's Standby Phase with the following effect:

FLIP: Discard any number of cards from your hand. Remove from play an equal number of cards on the field or your opponent's hand.

Effect: Once per turn, you can pay 600 Life Points. If you do, this card can attack twice during the same Battle Phase. Each time this card destroys a monster by battle, Special Summon 1 Level 3 or lower monster from your Deck. The summoned monster is treated as a Beast-Type.

Effect: This card is treated as a Normal Monster while face-up on the field or in the Graveyard. While this card is face-up on the field, you can Normal Summon it to have it be treated as an Effect Monster with this effect:

- Any monster that battles with this card cannot declare an attack during your opponent's next Battle Phase.

Effect: Once per turn, during your Main Phase, if you control this monster on the field, you can equip it to a Level 2 or lower monster you control as an Equip Spell Card OR unequip the Union equipment and Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position. While equipped to a monster by this card's effect, the equipped monster is treated as a Normal Monster. Each time the equipped monster inflicts battle damage to your opponent, destroy 1 Level 2 or lower Effect Monster on the field. (1 monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the equipped monster is destroyed as a result of battle, destroy this card instead.)

Effect: This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to the owner's hand during the End Phase of the turn that this card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned, or flipped face-up. This card is also treated as a Dragon-Type monster. Each time this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, your opponent discards 2 cards from their hand. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, add this card to your Deck during your End Phase.

Effect: 1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner "N.D.L." monsters

As long as this card remains face-up on the field, downgrade all Dragon-Type monsters in both player's hands and on the field by 1 Level. When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, Special Summon 1 Level 8 or lower Dragon-Type monster from your Deck. The summoned monster is destroyed during your opponent's End Phase.

Effect: This card is also treated as a Beast-Type monster. Once per turn, you can skip your Draw Phase. If you do, Special Summon 1 Level 3 or higher (Max. 6) "N.D.L." monster from your hand. Pay Life Points equal to the summoned monster's Level x 100. The summoned monster is destroyed during your opponent's End Phase. When this card is removed from the field, you can remove this card from play. If you do, Special Summon 1 Level 2 or lower removed from play "N.D.L." monster.

Effect: As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all Dragon-Type monsters you control gain 400 ATK, during the Damage Step only. If this card attacks an EARTH monster, this card gains 500 ATK during the Damage Step only. If this card is attacked by a FIRE monster, this card loses 500 ATK during the Damage Step only. If this card is removed from the field, you can pay 1000 Life Points. If you do, Special Summon this card during your next Standby Phase.

Effect: Each time your opponent activates a Spell Card, put 1 counter on this card (Max. 4). Once per turn, you can remove any number of counters from this card. If you do, Special Summon a number of Level 4 or lower DARK monsters from your Graveyard equal to the number of removed counters. The summoned monsters are destroyed during the second End Phase after this effect was activated. As long as this card remains in the Graveyard, each time your opponent summons a monster from the Graveyard, they pay 600 Life Points.

Effect: This card can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual Spell Card "Ritual of the Newbs". When this card is summoned, discard your hand and draw 5 cards. For each Spellcaster-Type monster drawn, gain 200 Life Points. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, each time a card is removed from your side of the field, your opponent discards 1 card from the top of their Deck.

Effect: If this card is used as a Synchro Material Monster for the Synchro Summon of an "N.D.L." Synchro Monster, inflict 500 damage to your opponent. You can remove this card in your Graveyard and 1 face-up Level 4 or lower "N.D.L." monster you control from play to add 1 Level 5 or higher "N.D.L." monster from your Deck to your hand.

Effect: Activate only when "N.D.L. Lrovani (.:JBM:.)" is removed from the field. Tribute 1 Level 8 "N.D.L." monster. Special Summon 1 "/Admin Mode" monster whose name includes the Tributed monster's name from your Deck in Attack Position.

Effect: Activate only while you control a face-up Level 5 or higher "N.D.L." monster. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all "N.D.L." monsters cannot be destroyed by FIRE monsters. (Damage calculation is applied normally.)

Effect: Activate only when a face-up "N.D.L. Max Darkness" you control is destroyed. Special Summon the destroyed monster, ignoring the Summoning Conditions. The Summoned monster gains ATK equal to the number of DARK "N.D.L." monsters you control x 200. When the Summoned monster is destroyed, it is removed from play.

Effect: Pay 750 Life Points to activate this card. Equip only to "N.D.L. Lrovani (.:JBM:.)". The equipped monster cannot be destroyed by FIRE monsters. (Damage calculation is applied normally.) Each time a Level 4 or lower "N.D.L." monster is destroyed, you can remove 1 Level 5 or higher non-"N.D.L." monster in your Graveyard from play. If you do, remove 1 Level 5 or higher non-"N.D.L." monster on your opponent controls from play.

Effect: Activate only when "N.D.L. Dr.Gentle" is face-up on your side of the field. "N.D.L. Dr.Gentle" gains ATK equal to its original ATK. During your Damage Step, all Direct Damage is treated as Battle Damage.

Effect: Activate only when there are 10 or more "N.D.L." monsters in your Graveyard. Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "N.D.L." monster from your Graveyard. The Summoned monster is equipped with this card. During your next Main Phase, Tribute the equipped monster. Special Summon 1 Level 5 or 6 "N.D.L." monster from your Graveyard in Attack Position. The Summoned monster gains ATK and DEF equal to the number of "N.D.L." monsters on your side of the field.

Effect: Activate only during your opponent's Main Phase. After activation, Special Summon this card; it is treated as an Effect Monster Card (Warrior-Type/DARK/Level 4/ATK 1500/DEF 1450). If this card is destroyed by a card effect, Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher "N.D.L." monster from your Deck in Attack Position. The Summoned monster is flipped face-down during your opponent's End Phase. (This card is still treated as a Trap Card.)

Effect: Activate only by the effect of "N.D.L. Supreme Gamesmaster". As long as this card remains face-up on the field, a number of your Spell & Trap Card Zones equal to the number of "Universe Token" cards on your side of the field are also treated as Monster Card Zones. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, you can only Summon Level 7 or lower monsters. When "N.D.L. Supreme Gamesmaster" is removed from the field, this card is destroyed. When this card is removed from the field, move as many Monster Cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zones as possible to your Monster Card Zones, then destroy all Monster Cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zones.

Effect: This card is treated as an "N.D.L." card. Pay 700 Life Points to activate this card. Equip only to "N.D.L. Tenkage". The equipped monster gains 300 ATK for each Level 3 or lower Normal Monster in your Graveyard. While "N.D.L. Tenkage" is equipped to a monster by its own effect, equip this card to the equipped monster. Each time the equipped monster destroys an Effect Monster by battle, the equipped monster gains 200 ATK. If "N.D.L. Tenkage" is removed from the field, you can remove this card from play. If you do, Special Summon "N.D.L. Tenkage" from your hand, Deck or Graveyard.
