Which means it -can be- expected players know the term. I use it very often, it's much more effective OCG and almost everyone on here understands it clearly. I guess, since Konami are often dealing with 5 year olds, they can be justified in trying to explain it to them on the card, but most people here are at least 10, they can understand piercing.

It's also WRONG. Just because something is easier to do doesn't mean it's preferred. "Piercing" could refer to countless things, whereas the correct OCG only means one thing.

As insanity said earlier, "Piercing Damage", has been used once in the history of YGO, due to lack of space, and since that the regular OCG has taken it's place.

 

In other words, argument invalid.

 

Sephiroth, that's like saying one shouldn't bother writing on here with proper grammar, as someone wouldn't give out a novel based on it. It makes little sense, and is extremely irrelevant. Posting a card is like making any other post, and you just make the OCG equivalent of "There chairs are over their."

Sorry Umbra. I have the highest respect for you but I have to disagree on this point. As long as the OCG is perfectly understandable by almost everyone who reads it, which I believe this is, and that it creates no ruling questions, which this does not, I don't feel that it's in anyway a problem or hurts the cards. Of course, having cleaner OCG which is easier to read and clearer is nice, but piercing seems to not create any sort of double-take to me or anything else which makes it a problem.

 

If you disagree, that's fair enough and I can still respect that there is reasoning behind your view, but I think that we should leave Sephiroth here to decide which way he wants to put his cards and try to direct any further discussion to making the cards themselves as close to perfection when it comes to them being played in the game as we're able.

The keyword being "almost". As I said, "Piercing" can be interpreted in many different ways It can be read as "breaking through an opponent's defense and therefore being able to ignore ATK or DEF", being able to attack directly, "breaking" a DEF by decreasing it by the amount of damage... If you actually write it out, there's no room for misinterpretation. Using "piercing damage" on a card only shows lack of effort in my opinion.

 

Moving on to the rest of the set, I find many interesting cards: Gravedigger Ghoul sticks out as excellent anti-meta, along with Devil's Advocate, but I have a question regarding the new Terra. Do you discard that Terra, or another copy in your hand while that Terra is on the field? The current wording hints at the latter.

^^^ Originally I had reformatted the cards into an entirely different structure that somewhat resembled MtG's system that listed the Cost, Target(s) and Effects. By the end of the set I realized Yu-Gi-Oh is too unique to be formatted like that and just redid them all into standard. As a result, some cards like Terra got mixed up in between. I'm gonna go through them again and do some cleaning, and change Piercing.

 

^ & ^^I liked some TCG names.

I found the OCG names better on some.

I found neither name good on some (Hinotama Soul [TCG] / Sting [OCG] was completely altered to Will-O'-Wisp, or Witty Phantom [TCG] / Djinn Death Satan [OCG, lol] altered to Devil's Advocate).

 

Bird is OCG. Hybrid, I don't think it's OCG, but I'm impartial to two-word types. I'd change Sea Serpent if I could. Mostly it was because we have Beast-Types and Warrior-Types, so I found Beast-Warrior incredibly redundant. It was just a personal preference.

...No really, I mean it. I'm apparently cursed. Every single flippin' time I plan to do something seemingly original, I come to the Writing Forum JUUUST in time to see someone with THE EXACT SAME IDEA I HAD. It's not plagiarism obviously, since it always comes either before I write up the cards, or just after I've written them and are about to post, but it's still irritating little evidence that the universe deeply hates me.

 

In any case, the cards are interesting though it's difficult really to give adequate criticisms on essentially a grab-bag of unrelated cards. I'll make a more helpful post later honest (probably), but from what I've seen, the cards seem to hover (in actual use value) between mediocre and fairly useful, which is an interesting median to hit really. Quite realistic, considering Konami's card releasing trends. OCG seems alright, and several effects are rather original.
