Cozmosus
we don't know definetly that time travel is possible yet. a long time ago, people thought that space travel was impossible, and that man would never walk on the moon, and that the president will never be black. Look where we are now. So before you think that time travel is absolutely impossible, people didn't have technology for rocket ships a long time ago, and we don't have technology for time machines yet. Cozmosus
If I was stupid, then I would not believe that time travel would be possible in the future. As Exyst said, people who did not believe in space travel were "stupid/retarded with no ambition, whereas I have ambition, and am not stupid/retarded(because if I was, I would not even be able to write something like this) which means you proved to yourself that time travel may be possible in the future, but now you are going to say something stupid, or something along those lines, like I am wrong even though you now I am right because people do that when they know they are wrong, they just do that to annoy others and make them admit defeat. And why would you both say that I am stupid when you have not met me. Just because you don't believe in something that I think may be possible someday, doesn't mean that I'm stupid. And tell me exactly why my post is stupid. I would like to know so that I could correct you/it.
Mindscatter
People, people, you freak me out. It is DAMN simple. The faster you move, the more you travel to the future. It was proved, it is practical, and it is used in GPS systems. It's a FREAKIN FACT. Got it?
Mindscatter
Exactly. And travelling to the past is simply impossible. Technology cannot defy the rulez of da universe. Wait...Salty?!

That's how bad this post was. Anyone who can explain why will receive an Official Seal of Not Necessarily Retarded. The reason why we wouldn't have a Black President had nothing to do with science or anything logical to begin with, people we're just that dumb. Also it was never impossible to reach the moon, simply impossible to do it at that time. On the other hand time isn't like a movie where it's possible to rewind and forward, it's something that keeps on moving. Think of it as a long line and you can only move forward. That explanation should suffice YCMer's I guess.

Cozmosus
As was said, it isn't impossible to do space travel, people just didn't have the technology. How do you know that time travel isn't possible and we don't have the technology. How do you know that peopl won't figure out time travel, start arguing about something else and say "People a long time ago thought it was impossible to time travel but they didn't have the technology........" bla, bla, bla, and say exactly what I said here? Twig
Traveling forwards to the future maybe, but traveling backwards into the past is a big NO. What ruins it is all the possible paradoxes you can make simply by traveling into the past. You can also change the future in a big way just by doing something as little as taking food from a house. Besides, if humans built a time machine that can go backwards in time, wouldn't they be here right now? Wouldn't we have heard or seen of them by now? Catman25
Ok, Mr. Salty, There is a fundamental difference between the statement "We cannot move at half the speed of light" and the statement "We cannot move at twice the speed of light". The former simply describes how far our current technology has and has not advanced. The latter refers to a fundamental law of the universe that is independent of how far our technology has developed. Similarly' date=' you could compare, say, landing manned vehicles on Mars and simultaneously determining a particle's position and velocity to perfect precision. The former is only impossible in the sense that we do not quite have the technology to accomplish it at the present time. The latter is fundamentally impossible in the sense that nobody anywhere with any amount of technology can ever do it - see the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. This topic discusses time travel not in the sense of "Do we have the technology to do it now?" but rather in the sense of "Is it physically possible to accomplish?", yet you have chosen to interpret the question it what is evidently the wrong way. Gee, thanks for informing us that we don't happen to have invented a TARDIS yet, genius. We totally couldn't have figured that out on our own. The question quite clearly concerns whether it is theoretically possible, not whether we can do it now. Why didn't you figure this out? Answer: You're an idiot.[/quote']The original question does not specify "when" time traveling would be possible, therefore one could interpret the question as they wish, which is what I have done. Also the fact that time travel is merely conceptual at this point in time, gives it a likely fact that it will still be conceptual in the future, as I argued my point before, there would be high chance of failure, and no specific motive for experimenting with it. The universe is currently believed to be no more than 14 billion years old. 65 billion years is thus almost five times the age of the universe. If you consider that to be a "short time"' date=' then you have robbed the word "short" of all meaning. Why would you call that "short"? Answer: You're an idiot.[/quote']First and foremost, this "65 billion" is actually around 4-6 billion. In this time maybe not a meteor, but a vast misusage of resources and technology or another natural phenomenon could destroy us before we could develop time traveling. In the Earth's history, if you have studied it, there have been planet-changing occurrences that could possibly happen again, i.e. K-T boundary. Because this happened in the 4.5 billion years we've been around, it's a possibility it can occur again. This means only from this perspective of the argument, that there's possibility in our tie left here that we won't have a chance to develop time-traveling, deeming it impossible. Oh' date=' wonderful. You've degenerated into claiming that Albert Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity was wrong, while continuing to attack the wrong question as described above (which is an informal logical fallacy known as Straw Man). Why? Answer: You're an idiot.[/quote']I did not mention Einstein's Theory of Relativity, nor did I claim it wrong. I was merely suggesting, that if something highly theoretical such as the current topic was experimented, it'd have a high chance of failure, which the government, at any given time, would probably not want. And if you want to get into this further, there is the speculation that time doesn't exist. And no don't give me this bs is what any of you who didn't tl;dr are saying now. It's merely a possibility I'm throwing out there. Time was created as a concept, nothing more. The following gives the general consensus of scientists in doubt of time: http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg19726391.500-is-time-an-illusion.html?full=true So while you degrade me on your incorrect interpretation of what you think I have said, I'm here suggesting that time travel may be possible, it may not be. It's merely opinion at this point, but there are many factors that can contribute to deeming it impossible. Think what you want sir Crab.

You are DEEPLY wrong. Let me talk to you about a little thing called INERTIA and another little thing called VACUUM. INERTIA: The property of an object to retain it's constant speed or static state unless another force occurs upon him. If an object is moving at half the speed of light and is not accelerating nor decelerating at all, then his inertia keeps him together, and it does not feel the effects of the force at all.VACUUM: A place where there is nothing but could be something. A vacuum lacks AIR. So, in a vacuum there would be no friction. Thus, no force working against the object moving at exactly 0.5 the speed of light. Thus, it will keep it's inertia and nobody would get killed. Still, you are right about 1 thing: an object moving that fast would decelerate VERY SLOW, thus making him unable of actually landing on a planet.
