Oranges

People are a lot like oranges.

Oranges have a tough, outer shell. This is to protect them from the elements, and from animals. However, once you get past the shell, by peeling away its layer, you realize that it has a bland, fuzzy white layer as well. You peel that off too, not wanting the bad tasting layer. You are left with the juicy good parts of the orange, which you peel away, and enjoy.

People have a tough, outer layer, called emotions. This is to protect them from other people. However, once you get past the outer emotions, you realize that they have another layer. This layer is their true emotions. You go past those too, because it is not good tasting. You are left with the core elements that make up a human, namely, desires. You think this part is tasty, juicy you might say. Watching people struggle to suppress what they really want, because it isn't accepted to be a dancer, or a painter, or even a philosopher, because "they don't pay good" or "what good is that gonna do you." Or you watch them greedily try to obtain their goals, while pushing out others, and become bitter with themselves, because they have obtained their goals, but have no one to show to it.

This pleases you, because it detaches you. Keeps you away from your own reality, from what is hurting you. So, you smirk, and deny this, but it will gnaw at you.

I made the initial comparison while cutting up an orange( I have no nails to peel with). Thought I would run with it, because I haven't written one in a while.

Criticism appreciated. :D

Good topic.

Just remember that not every person is an orange, the human nature is complex and mysterious. So where one person might be this 'orange', there is also another person whose characteristics might be more fitting to a 'pomegranate' or a 'coconut'.

Nonetheless the comparison is well thought out. =]

If ever I hesitate to eat oranges in the future, I'm blamin' ye.

But anyway, comparing us homos to Plant's legs (I know, I know) strikes me as oversimplistic. Fer one: why does this model always assume that we are after all good at heart (the juicy part came down mine leg)? Could there be combinations wherein we are superficially sweet but are really sheet on the inside (fer instance)?

Sorry fer not explaining this further, but I think this is as far as I could go without getting utterly lost and mangled.

Yet another great analogy. You sir, are much smarter than me (Not much of an accomplishment.), and many others here, as well as some in real life.

I believe this is quite correct, however, what we must do as oranges is to let our fruity goodness shine through, so that we ignore the denies of society at our dreams, so we may achieve the ultimate goal. To become freshly squeezed orange juice.

Also, what we must also do as oranges, is not eat other oranges. That makes us cannibals.
