Scatty Posted January 17, 2010 Report Share Posted January 17, 2010 The book is very interesting due to 2 aspects of it: first, the writer managed to actually invent some new languages, languages that actually DO sound appropriate, do not resemble real ones at all and blend into the storyline. Second, it contains an aspect of fantasy that is rarely approached: atheism, because the elves are actually atheists in those books. Practically, elves give narrow, concise and unquestionable explanations to magic, almost turning it into a science, a pseudo-science that rejects religion. The reason the writer made them so? Simple: they never age nor do they get diseases. This is an idea mostly used in Science Fiction, but Eragon succeeded in using it without looking SF at all. It is also a good book to read because of the precise and logical cronology, and because of the just as precise historical background. The one thing I DON'T like the book for (although this happens in virtually any Fantasy novel serie) is the simplicity with which it perceives evil. The good can be corrupted, already is and usually tends to cause collateral damage or get neutral stances, but evil is simply...evil! No chance of redemption, no hope for redemption. Just sain'... The movie was a complete massacre of the book. It changed it so bad. Now I seriously doubt that they will ever be able to make a second movie because THEY SCREWED IT UP SO MUCH..! Sorry, I'm quite passionate about all this... THe actors were terrible, the way they shot it was worse. But what tops it off was the guy who played Eragon... HE LOOKS NOTHING LIKE HE SHOULD. He looks all blank faced and dopey. And Saphira looks nothing like a dragon. It looks like a dragon out of a children cartoon. And her voice is worse, she sounds like she's a little girly girl (no offense meant). It should sound more heroic. Im sorry about my rant, I just love Eragon so much. Eragon FTW. A lot of other books I have read, I get bored of (and this is including my favorite book series, Harry Potter). But this one kept me hooked. Probably for my love of dragons.
