If you feel suicidal, visiting this thread is a bad idea.

Is there even a point to life?

No religious bullshit, thank you very much.

I fail to see a point. I was having this discussion with Icyblue on MSN, when I was feeling suicidal one day. Needless to say I am better now.

If there was a point, I'd define it as 'doing whatever the hell you want'. Being bound by something causes stress. You are required to go to school, required to go to work, required to be sad. My ass. You are not required to do anything.

While stress may not be the opposite of fun, I see fun as an opening to a 'meaning of life'. For now, it remains a mystery to me.

While you answer that, ponder on another question.

Let's assume you are stressed, 'depressed' (need the quotes, because for some people, depression is a medical condition), and just sad overall. And let's assume you are selfish like myself, and really don't care about others all too much.

Is suicide a 'viable' option? Will it eliminate your "pain"?

Well, discuss. And no, I am not commiting suicide. I've come too fucking far for that.

Meaning of life: Reproduce' date=' use up all the resources in the world, and lead a good life.

[/quote']

Go more in depth, please.

'lead a good life' doesn't really form a solid meaning of life. I'd like it if you could elaborate, possibly define what a 'good life' is (Kanye reference), and how one should 'lead' one.

I don't really give a damn what anyone else thinks, but awhile ago, I defined the meaning of life as simply this. Enjoy yourself.

There really isn't anything else. If you can't manage to find someway to enjoy your time on Earth, then there's nothing else. Why do we go to school? To get a job. Why do we want to get a job? To get money. Why do we want money?

There's no easy answer to that last one. We want money because without it you can't get squat in this modern world.

I think that at the core of it all, we want money so that we can enjoy the world. Sure we all want to buy and support a home so that we aren't at the mercy of the elements or anything, but beyond that, the only other thing I can think of to use money for is enjoyment. And food. But still, beyond food and shelter, all I can think of are things with no purpose other than pure enjoyment.

If life doesn't matter, then why should I go in depth?

Why should I waste precious minutes of my life going in depth of a mundane topic such as this?

How can you enjoy yourself when school, college and work cause stress?

Because you don't have a response, and you only posted to get +1 post count.

-sigh-

I hate topics likes these. Every time I read them I end up getting 'depressed' somehow.

To be honest, my answer is that I don't really give a funk. I was born, and there's no damn point in killing myself over a stupid reason which I know I'll get over with eventually. All I'll do for my life is live it as well as I can. No regrets.

*sigh* Philisophical discussion time

The meaning of life, generally, is purely an opinion. There is no one true meaning. Sure, some people may share the same ideas but it's still all opinion. Your life is exactly what it is, your life. And you can do whatever the hell you want with it. Yes there are restrictions but people need to stop being little bastards, grow some balls, and realize that sheet happens. Yes, believe or not, you will get your ass kicked, ALOT. From birth to death, your going to get pushed around, expected to do things, and going to have to hold huge responsibilities. Now once you realize this, then you start to enjoy life. Life becomes less stressful because you know that bad things will happen so therefore your more prepared to face them when they do happen. Also, you'll improve your life to prevent those bad things (or at least some of those) from happening.

Please, please! "if there were a point".

Anyhow, I have unfortunatly been clincally depressed a few times, to be honest suicide does seem like a way out, unfortunatly it really isn't, once you've killed yourself thats it, full stop, what I aim to do is completly ignore people who annoy me, aka.. my parents and get a job I enjoy, weather I get high enough grades to get into graphics seriously or if I just go into a self published manga production I plan to enjoy my life and take it easy, regardless of weather I am living in a house or a culde shack.

It is a viable option at it could eliminate my pain. Though the time I tried it didn't work...I had tested it before i used it. not on a live subject of course...But yes I do still question my purpose in life and wonder what is the purpose of life. hmm so many questions, so many answers which are more likely false. And I find religion in this matter ends up making one want to go furhter with committing suicide in my opinion only because it bores me and really annoys me at times. No offence to you religious people, but I find religions to actually hold people back. And in my opinion depression cannot be medically defined, I make what they call key factors in noticing depression impossible to see on me unless I talk about my depression.

Well. Here's the truth:

There is no point to life. Us being alive doesn't ... do anything. We live to satisfy our needs that aren't even important in the grand scale of things. But dying isn't going to make you happy. When you die, you lose all consciousness. You just become... dead. There's nothing special about it. You don't get reincarnated, you don't go to heaven/hell, you just die and that's it. From that perspective, does it seem like being dead is better than being alive? No.

Enjoy yourself while trying not to get in the way of other peoples enjoyment of life.

Experience has taught me that the more things you can appreciate the happier you will be. If you can laugh at toilet humor the same way you laugh at dry ironic humor, chances are you'll spend more time of your life laughing. Every second of laughter is a second well spent.

Still, there's something to be said for sadness too. Ironically it seems most of the things we do in our lives we do to affirm that we are alive. We are not free animals, society has bound us but it has also enabled us to achieve great things, but in the end everyone needs to find that moment of pure joy that comes without any philosophical obligation but merely from knowing that you feel amazing, that you feel a sensation so strong that you know it has to be true............that's what she said.

As each man or woman is entirely different in and of his or herself, each and every purpose to everyone's life is different, IMO. It is his or her job to find out what that meaning is, and perhaps, if we all are to play out our roles correctly and accordingly, we may create on big purpose, of which we all wish to discover.[/theory]

Hm...

More than once I've thought this, and once I attempted suicide. Needless to say, I wasn't successful; I just went to the hospital... Ugh; if I could just get a gun in my possession.

Well, I'm better now, but...

To me, the meaning of life would be, well, nothing really. The universe doesn't need us. I guess we're just here to pass the time? I don't know, really.

LOL, look, bud, if you get a gun, statistics show that you will feel the most pain a human could ever experience before you die, even if it's under an interval of a second, depending of course if you shot yourself in the head.
