CinnamonStar
Is awesome if it fits. I think it works with Gothic, Folk, Neoclassical Metal and the likes. And Symphonic stuff obviously. But if it's Dominia it's EPIC!!
Death Metal
Violins are cool. Symphonic Black Metal and Folk Metal would be nothing without 'em.
Tabris
Violins are cool. Symphonic Black Metal and Folk Metal would be nothing without 'em. One could go further - why not sound metal using violins alone? John Zorn (eclectic jazzman, but never ye know him) certainly did that, albeit with a different instrument (saxophone, instance). Well, look this one up: Six Litanies for Heliogabalus, by John Zorn, assisted by the so-called Moonchild trio (among them a certain Mike Patton). Nothing but bloodcurdling shrieks by Patton (on one of the tracks - Litany IV), accompanied (on the rest) by a potpourri of saxophone-bass-drums-backup voices.
