Get a Mac

Linux is nice and all, but frankly unless you're working with a server, why the hell bother? It's not like anybody actually buys anything anyways. Yeah, it's way better than XP or Vista, but Windows 7 was actually a great leap for Microsoft, so in most circumstances that will leave the user happy enough. Plus it has way more software available. (Yeah, you can emulate it or run it in a Virtual Machine, but that's slow, inefficient, and often problematic.)

And OSX is basically Linux except with a smoother user interface, better-written software, more professional software, and a superior kernel. Though granted, you have to buy either buy a Mac or rig up a Hackintosh (I just dualboot Ubuntu and Windows 7 on my desktop). Mac laptops (and laptops are way more useful than desktops) are jsut about the best in the market. Pretty decent internals. Ridiculously good trackpad. Sturdy. Etc.

I have Windows XP, although I've used Mac, Vista, W7 and older versions of Windows.

And I prefer Windows XP. Well, actually W7. But I'm too lazy to get that on my desktop.

The Mac ads are usually funny, but have little or no logic behind them. "Yo, we're number one in satisfaction." What they don't say is that they are number one out of two or three.

Macs are overpriced. They have better hardware (eh, a little better), but with less software, and their idiotically high price, if you know how to work a computer, you should be getting a PC.

.

Also, I find the Mac interface ....un-ergonomic (is that a word?). The command key is stupid. It's in an awkward place, making it difficult to hit while typing/in typing position...and it does all the things the ctrl key does on a windows. Except the ctrl key is still on a Mac. It kind of looks like they changed it so they could say their OS is different.

Finally, the magic mouse is stupid. The whole point of a mouse is that I don't want to use a fucking touchpad.

I agree with every word of this, especially about the mouse/keyboard. The iMac keyboards especially are horrible to use and the buttons just look stupid. Also, the Onion is hilarious.

Eh, I can't and won't speak for a Mac desktop, though it would certainly be more expensive than one that you've built yourself. (As is true for any branded computer.)

My MBP, though, is an excellent buy. And yeah, the internal hardware can be delivered in another laptop for cheaper, but the package is excellent. Best trackpad I've ever used. I actually prefer it to a mouse, unless I'm playing a game. Multitouch, etc. is just stellar. I use it with expose all the time. Makes everything so much more convenient.

Oh, and the aluminum unibody is amazing. Sturdiest laptop I've ever seen. Thin and light too.

And the battery life is a huge factor. The point of a laptop is obviously to cut your ties from any particular location. Thus battery life is utterly important, and being able to go most of the day separated from any power cord is something you just can't live without once you've experienced it.

Yeah, there are some non-Mac laptops that can provide some of these features (but not all, I've never seen a trackpad equalling Apple's, for example), but you have to expect their price to increase appropriately as well. At least in the laptop department, Macs are certainly no ripoff. Yeah, it's a higher-end product targeted at a specific niche in the market. All you want is raw performance at a low price, then you're right, Mac is probably not for you. That doesn't mean it's in any way "idiotically priced."

As for software. I haven't had much of an issue with that so far. Yeah, I miss out on games, but it isn't too much trouble for me to just boot into Windows to play those that don't have decent Mac ports. And frankly, I'd rather jsut play them on my Windows gaming rig, anyways.

Oh, and if you know how to work a computer, you generally are going to be involved in a 'nix OS. Guess what Windows isn't.

Command key has been around as long as Mac has. In other words, the command key did those things long before the ctrl key ever did. I don't find it to be positioned with any problem. THe only thing that annoys me about my MBP's keyboard is the positioning of the fn key. It's to the left of the left ctrl key, which makes my finger often come down on the wrong spot when playing games which make use of the ctrl key.

As for the magic mouse, I've never used it. But I would agree that the concept seems stupid.

I don't care what I use; as long as I can go to YCM and Youtube.

Linux.

I have a Desktop PC with XP.

A Personal Laptop with Vista.

An iPod Touch.

Based of the iPod' date=' and my Science teachers endless supply of damn Macs, Macs have a [b']cooler, interactive, fun interface[/b], but I prefer Microsoft.

oh god this is so credible XD
