[align=center]The YCM History

Welcome, YCM Members, to The YCM History. This is the official remake of it since Santa's Little Helper handed the job of keeping this thread alive to me.

You all must know when your thread got stickied, when you got 10,000 posts, or even when you got your first contest win. The problem is, everyone else on YCM doesn't know.

You all should know Frunk's epic history thread. It talks about the days before the actual YCM existed, and how the different members influenced the making of this forum. If that was hugely successful, wouldn't this be too?

The purpose of The YCM History is for the members to contribute on every success this forum has been through, and every event, contest, or positive action that has made history. If you remember anything, even just one fact, you are still a great contributor. We accept history from anyone which is appropriate.

Recent Notices/Additions:

14/03/2010: After the many complaints about how 'post count has nothing to do with history', I have decided it should have it's own section, where the member name and date of their 10,000 posts has taken place.

Rules of Fact Submitting:

A definite rule is, facts with no dates are denied. If you find the date, you can always come again. History without dates is not even history. Below are more rules, and what we expect you to submit.

Inappropriate facts include:

A fact unrelated to YCM. (eg. It's your birthday)

Someone's joining date. (eg. Pikachu joined 5-12-2008)

When someone got so-and-so reps. (eg. When *insert name here* got 50 reps)

Personal events (eg. making a friend).

Obvious facts (eg. YCMaker made YCM).

The facts that we want are:

When important events took place (eg. Stamp Collecting, Card Contests (best if it was made by a mod)) and so on.

When suggestions were accepted (eg. Multimedia section, Avatar restrictions).

When someone became a moderator.

When a new event was introduced.

When a popular member got banned/never returned.

Facts that get reps if the fact is true (newly updated every week):

When exactly did GameFAQs invade the TCG section?

Except Brushfire, who else helped in the making of the Multimedia section?

When were the YCM Awards hosted? (Now this is a real rep-grabber. However, you HAVE to state whether it was the first, second or whatever YCM Awards.)

When did the avatar sizes go down to 80x80, and when did it go back up to 100x100?

When did Draco return? When did he get banned again? (One rep for each question.)

The reason I am offering reps is to persuade people to reveal the truth. If you don't tell us, it would soon be long forgotten, and we are preventing that.

AND PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if you have the link to the event, post it too. If you either can't or you don't know where it is, I'll try my best and search for it. If it's a member or moderator related fact, post the link of their profile. If it's a suggestion that has been successful, please post the suggestion thread.

Now, feel free to view what we have so far:

BEWARE! RANT AHEAD!

---

Well, the first obvious thing I have to say is, this was tried twice before. Once by me, and once by SLH. Maybe once before that, but I highly doubt it, because I would have remembered it. And by the time I joined, YCM was somewhat new. Not old enough for a serious history thread. So, this is the third attempt. The first thing you want to pull from that is that the first and second attempts failed. Mine definatley failed, and SLH's wasn't active enough and died out. History repeats, no pun intended.

Going away from the rant for a bit, I really love how you formatted this thread. It's a simple, sort of layed-back thread, where people can check up on information really quick. That's a plus for this thread, and I really like everything about the first post. Good job on that.

Going back to the rant (sorry, I have to), I need to ask some questions of you. Seriously, tell me, who is going to want to spend their time looking at a history book of old (and new) YCM? TBQH, no one really gives a damn. No one cares when xyz mod was appointed, nor does anyone care when member abc did something cool. It's wonderful that Brushfire made the Multimedia section, and it's wonderful that Draco got banned, came back, and got banned again. That's great. It's important. But it doesn't look like many people care. The bottom line is, Multimedia is here, and Draco is gone. Dates don't really matter in this instance, now do they?

Second, refer back to how the other two "History Book" threads were locked. Mine was actually pretty active, racking up 80 or so posts before it eventually got locked. So, you can't say that mine was just a flat-out dead thread. No, people wanted to post information. But why did it get locked? No one knows, but there is freaking amazing speculation. It was the mods. But not the way you think. The information I was asking and people were posting were stuff the mods didn't really want/like. Ban dates, perma-ban dates, revolutionary movements. Hell, someone even posted the dates of the Coolio raids. Mods don't want that kind of information lurking around. Is that a good reason to lock my thread? Maybe possibly.

And you already know how SLH's thread was locked. I'm not sure if it was locked, TBQH, but it essentially died out.

So now you have three problems to worry about. The problem of people caring, the problem of posting malicious information (to the mods) and the problem of this thread dying out. I'm no psychic magician, but I really don't expect this thread to last long. You may think differently, but I feel your wasting your time. However, continue with this thread. If it actually becomes succsessful, it could turn out into an amazing project.

On topic, yeah, this is a great thing to give a new life to. Unfortunately, major events don't happen as often as they should.

"new" is a relative word. Please stay on-topic (which may sound stupid, as you are the most on-topic of all with that overly long post that I finally manage to finish reading).

Anyway, remember when you proposed that in order to stop human over-growth there should be a lottery every 4 years with numbers from 1 to 365 and whatever number you get all people born in that day would die?

I actually changed it to every leap year so we can do 1 to 366.

But yeah. Did you want to comment on how inhumane I am?

None of this is important, as you would call it. At least, now anyway.

The lower sections have been so bastardized over the last year, Im surprised people are still in it.

Thus, the ONLY important events left are those that involve the Yu-Gi-Oh! Section and the Custom Cards Sections. As they receive the most events and Moderating overall, with great reason too.

April 2009- Dark Heart creates the Original CardMaker War, which increases activity in a positive way in Any Other Cards.

July 2009- Yangninja created the YVD Card Studio to increase play using YVD. Not too long after -Griffin organizes the Created Card Game, with moderate success.

August 2009- Icyblue creates the Taste of Vanilla Thread, which changes the way people see Normal Monster Cards.

September/October 2009- Advanced Clause is introduced into Role Playing.

November 2009- Icyblue, Umbra, Flame Dragon, and Chaos Pudding were made Super Moderator. Rinne and Shadius become Role Play Moderators.

January 2010- Phantom Roxas became a Custom Cards Moderator.

That's all I got for now.

And btw... Don't glorify bans. We keep them discreet for a reason, including sometimes the ban reasons are diluted as it's none of your business.

I am appalled that Organization XIII hasn't even been mentioned once.

Collectively between 3 threads, it's been the most popular club on the entire site and the original thread still has the second most posts of any thread.

EDIT: Never mind. The rate the above user's sig thread just passed it. But it's still third.

Oh Jesus?

Well, the first obvious thing I have to say is, this was tried twice before. Once by me, and once by SLH. Maybe once before that, but I highly doubt it, because I would have remembered it. And by the time I joined, YCM was somewhat new. Not old enough for a serious history thread. So, this is the third attempt. The first thing you want to pull from that is that the first and second attempts failed. Mine definatley failed, and SLH's wasn't active enough and died out. History repeats, no pun intended.

You somewhat contradicted yourself here. We are now in a fresh new year of 2010, where this forum has over 3 years of history. In a few more years time, people would actually CARE what happened to this forum. People what to know WHO done this to the forum or WHY this section was created.

The fact that yours and SLH's fail is not my problem, that's yours. This thread is now my problem.

Going away from the rant for a bit, I really love how you formatted this thread. It's a simple, sort of layed-back thread, where people can check up on information really quick. That's a plus for this thread, and I really like everything about the first post. Good job on that.

Well, I have to thank you for that.

Have you seen Frunk's history? Very entertaining, full of exquisite information. I loved it. And it was only about the forum before it even existed. And it has over 5000 views. Such old, information that hardly anyone would read has 5000 views. If such a thread could gain that much, should we expect that this thread will get 20,000 views for the next year? This, is history that people actually CARE about.

People are always curious, they sometimes ask 'Hey, when did THIS happen?' or 'Why did THIS happen and by who?'. This thread would answer all their questions.

Hell, someone even posted the dates of the Coolio raids. Mods don't want that kind of information lurking around. Is that a good reason to lock my thread? Maybe possibly.

I can understand if mods find that kind of information classified, but really, think of the long term. Frunk's thread was talking about the events from over 3 years ago. In three years time, wouldn't this thread be as successful?

And you already know how SLH's thread was locked. I'm not sure if it was locked, TBQH, but it essentially died out.

No, he let me continue since he said he's inactive recently.

Rushed the ending a bit? A few spelling errors.

People caring? People will be stupid in three years time.

Mods angry? Reject the information.

This thread dying? Not a chance.

To be honest, this is a side hobby. If this dies out, I won't get angry. I want this to be an amazing project. And it is the whole forum's responsibility if this thread dies out. This thread, is supposed to be the whole forum's project. If it goes the right way, this would be revolutionary.

[/rant]

As a side question, is it okay if I go to your old 'history thread' and dig out some information to put on this?

None of this is important' date=' as you would call it. At least, now anyway.

Bans show the end of a legend, pretty much how the Roman Empire fell. It's interesting.

And thanks. It would be great if you could also give me the dates too.

I am appalled that Organization XIII hasn't even been mentioned once.
