Pi

My calculator remembers pi for me.. I don't see any point in memorising the digits when 22/7 can be used as an adequate substitute in most situations where a calculator is not available.

3.1415 > 22/7

Because 22/7 is 3.1428...

IT'S TOO MUCH FOR AREA TO HANDLE.

Hell, my math teachers tell me to leave Pi as a symbol.

Well yeah, it generally makes more sense to do that, but still don't see how remembering the digits is remotely useful =p

You'd be surprised at the things people will become proficient in that aren't remotely useful.

As far as I can go?

Being the math wizard I am' date=' let's see...

*moves away from the keyboard to breathe*

3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971693993

The next number is either 7 or 2, not sure which.

[/quote']

It's a 7, then a 51058209749445923078164062862089986280348253421170679821480865132823066470938446095505 or something like that.

That's all I've got.

I know I can't beat the girl who's got 4K committed to memory. D:

I know up to 3.1415926535897932384626 (is it a 6?)

If you don't know 3 you're a fcking moron, most should know 3.14 and a lot of people know up to 3.1415. Much further than that and you're showing off. If you know fifty+ digits you're wasting your time. However, if you have no life, feel free to learn a hundred or so.

Here's an EXCELLENT way to memorize pointless numbers:

1 = t or d sound (t and d have 1 downstroke)

2 = n sound (has 2 downstrokes)

3 = m sound (has 3 downstrokes)

4 = r sound (four ends with r)

5 = l sound (If you lift your left hand and make a 90 degree angle with your fingers, you will get an L)

6 = j, ch, or sh sound (J sort of looks like a backward 6)

7 = k or hard g sound (A K is two 7s back to back)

8 = f or v sound (A cursive f looks like an 8)

9 = p or b sound (p sort of looks like 9, b looks like an upside down 9)

Convert the numbers into words. :D

ex: California = 75142

Trust me, it will be worth your time!

First 100 digits of pi translated into sentences

My turtle pancho will, my love, pick up my new mover, ginger.

My movie monkey plays in a favorite bucket.

Ship my puppy Michael to Sullivan's backrubber

A really open music video cheers Jenny F. Jones.

HAve a baby fish knife so Marvin will marinate the goosechick.

Thanks Art Benjamin for showing me this system.

I have memorized the most number of p digits from here! Look: 3.

No really, people that lived in ancient Greece (VERY ancient, far before Pitagora, Arcimede and the buddies) treated pi as being purely 3.

BTW, anybody here knows the ACTUAL EQUATION you use to find out what for unexisting God's sake actually IS pi?

And don't take me with perimeter/diameter, I'm talking actual equations.

Actually it's circumference / diameter.

Goddamned grammar, I was being serious! How do you calculate pi?
