Brushfire
This is a highly 'what-if' thread. I'll be happy to go to your ground, but don't turn this one into bullshit. I don't think YCM can handle a thread like this because the majority are ignorant and stupid, but oh well. So, if goes like this: The human race, or scientists find life on an Earth-like moon. Upon investigation, they decide that they need to investigate further as the planet/moon is covered highly in mountains. They send high-quality satellites to the moon, and realise that it is also full of water. Knowing that Earth is not only over-populated, but that we will have to move sometime, scientists begin to look into the possibility of moving to this planet. So, they attempting to send computer-controlled space shuttles to the planet so it can explore. As there are land-based units dropped in by flight units, the land units explore the area. They notice that it is possible to go inside the mountains through large, stable holes in each one. Once inside, they realise that there is intelligent life- smarter than humanity living on the planet. Once this 'other intelligent life', or 'aliens' realise that there is another life-form investing their planet, some of them travel to Earth. The UN decide that these life-forms cannot be trusted, and immediately demand their capture. The government also 'secretly' keeps a few in labs and investigate how their bodies work. tl;dr: We discover a more intelligent life-form in the world and they come to Earth. Government overreacts and imprisons them and doesn't want anything to do with them. Keep the "impossible, because of [this]" out of this thread. Like I said, HIGHLY "what-if". Go ahead and discuss. blaze.
Hmmmm... I actually have to think about this one... You are probably correct, I'm sure the government overreacts all the time. Plus, they may want to capture them to prevent global panic. I wouldn't want intelligent aliens running around our planet unless they are proven to be stable minded, peaceful, etc.
Davok
Obviously the UN has at this point dissolved into a shattered carapace, desperately clinging on to whatever symbolism held it together in the first place. Then again, if humanity has been able to develop sufficient technology to actually travel to such Earth like planets yet the authorities are so paranoid and narrow-minded that they decide to lock super intelligent aliens in their wine cellar kind of gives me a negative view of the Establishment here. Then probably the aliens will start landing and blasting Heat Beams and bothering flustered Englishmen and finally die of the sniffles. Or get blown up by a Mac virus. In all seriousness though, the whole thing will probably come back to bite the government in the ass sooner or later. Which may or may not include enormous psy-explosions and enraged Southerners reaching for their shotguns.
ihop
The thing is, that would happen. The UN are so damn paranoid that they'd capture them before they even see them.

Snitch
I fail to understand what we're 'what-if'ing about. Alien life? ...because that's silly.
Kitty
Naturally the government would want to examine the aliens, especially if they're more intelligent than us. We'd probably end up causing a war between Earth and this 'new moon' and we'd end up either destroying the other life or getting ourselves destroyed. Ensenada
Due to the overprotective absolutely stupid behavior of the Earths governments, we'd probably have started a war with them before long. But seeing as they are more advanced than us, we'd probably lose said war. Inb4WeHazNuclearBombz.
