cerberus21
As previously stated (multiple times?):______________________________________________________________Gogeta™ Wrote: Rap does involve sex, drugs, woman, and money but doesn't all music?------------------------------------------------------------------------ cerberus21 Wrote:Yeah, but other genres of music also involve, say, OTHER THINGS It's a whole lot easier to find a rock song about something OTHER than sex, drugs, women, and money than it is to find a rap song that doesn't deal with them. I get that rappers write songs about those topics because rap music is more about image than actual talent, but you'll probably notice that the rappers who write songs that *don't* deal with those are the ones who get respect from a larger group of people. I mean, I hate rap, but I'll listen to Eminem's Stan any day. It's a deep song in a shallow genre. That's what sets apart the talented rappers from the idiots that over power the entire genre.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- and btw: i dont see why most people hate rap.. who else get to dress however they want' date=' say whatever they want and do whatever they want..[/b'] I do that everyday. ;D lolz yeahh but rappers are more in the spotlight.. so they get more criticized for it than you would. :) All musicians are in the spotlight. Eury
True, they do come on as a role model. But most of the time, not a good role model. All they talk about these days is sex, drugs, money and murder or something of the sort. Now, tell me how this makes a rapper a good role model for kids. Gogeta™
I think it leads kids into drugs and gang violence. Its takes more than music. Or I guess friends, peer pressure and bad parenting have nothing to do with it. Its just Rap music and nothing else. Why are the rappers picked on so much? Ive heard other music genres talk about horrible stuff.
Coffee Black
I think it leads kids into drugs and gang violence. If someone listens to a rap song, then immediatley wants to join a gang, they're dumb. Don't blame a genre of music for person's dumb decisions. It's just, there's a lot of crap that got stuffed into this genre that it's hard to dig the good stuff out. Well, master, that's any genre if you think about it. It's not just rap. Just take a look at metal--the focus of 99% of YCM's members. Sure, most of us here love it, but if you look at the big picture, there's A LOT of crap on the metal scene. Every genre is stuffed with a ton of crap that makes it hard to find the gems. It just so happens that rap is one of the most popular genres, therefore making it more apparent to us. But Country is the one genre where you can't go wrong. :3 + brings forth Johnny Cash and Lucinda Williams +

The kids ultimately decide whether to do whatever the rapper commands them to do, and unless they're bribed, abused, or something, the next generation won't do sheet.I think it leads kids into drugs and gang violence. Yeah, and I shoot down every police officer in Broadway and blame it on watching a really crappy rendition of Back to Methuselah.

Guest Random Dude
I live in a really gang-infested place, I don't like rap because it just encourages more gang violence here. There is a lot of drug traffic, murder, and a ton of other $#!t and all of it can be traced to rap, at least where I live.(south Texas, right across the border from Mexico)

Rap dosnt encourage drug use or gang volince!! I will say that rap music can't take all the blame for the gang violence and subtance abuse out there, but saying that it doesn't encourage it is just wrong. True, ultimately it comes down to the decision and self-control of the individual. Rappers have every right to say whatever they want. But denying that what they say encourages violence and gang activity... I think we need a reality check there.

Gascan
Rap is not crap, that's only the mainstream brand of Rap. The underground Hip-Hop scene is totally legit. If people would actually do some research before b****ing, thay'd come across awesome songs and artists like AL Third: And Bobby Ray:
