Darkjagwar
DYSTOPIA The city of Tendou, whose name loosely translates to ‘peaceful’, is anything but. In recent years, the division between the corporate executives and the military leaders has faded; whoever runs a big company also has military influence. It all began with Kaiba Corp. They expanded from Domino City/Neo Domino City and erected a headquarters Tendou. Disagreements arose between the two sections of the company and the Tendou branch separated entirely from the original Kaiba Corp and began to work in the direction Gozabura Kaiba originally intended it to go: Weapons Development. Two other major companies soon surfaced as city superpowers. Gears, Inc. and Stellar Enterprises were two more technology development corporations that seemed to edge towards weapons manufacturing from what they originally were: An engineering firm and a transportation development company. Things didn’t begin to start up, however, until local politician Darian Kaplan won the election for Director of the region. Additionally, the assassination of the General of the region’s military forces led the CEO of Gears, Inc., Caine Geers, a war veteran, to step in as General. Soon after, Geers appointed Kaplan to his board of advisors for Gears, Inc. and the CEO of Stellar Enterprises, Allen Taylor, proposed a merger between Gears and Stellar. The CEO of Kaiba Corp Tendou Branch (or KCT), Rick Myers, turned down a merger offer made to him by Gears and Stellar in order to avoid a monopoly and all the situations that would arise. A few weeks went by and Myers grew ill and was rushed to the hospital and now lies in a coma. His wife Lacie was left in charge of KCT and accepted the merger offer from Gears and Stellar. The three companies then merged into Gears Enterprises: A weapons research and development firm run by the government and military leaders. In the following weeks Geers and Kaplan, as the CEO and Executive Vice President of Gears, began to take control of Tendou and surrounding cities. Not only did they have a monopoly of the weapons technology industry, they also controlled the government and military in the region. Increasing salary and pension for military and law enforcement officers gave them total rule over citizens of the region. Freedoms were limited and the quality of life in Tendou was severely lowered. However, these changes took place gradually over a decade, so changes were not seen by the general populous until one day there was a slip-up in the law enforcement department. Here, our story begins…
The Characters]in order of appearance... Name: Darian KaplanAge: 38Alignment: AntagonistDescription: A man of average height; approximately 5'11". It was 2:00 AM and a computer hardware store had been broken into. Recordings taken of the area by security cameras showed a young man, not older than 17 years old with messy brown hair, deep blue eyes, and a tan complexion wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers, breaking the glass window of the store with a rock, then picking up a big grey bag and bringing it into the store. He then appreared five minutes later with the bag filled. He then brought the bag over to an alleyway where he had apparently kept a motorcycle side car. He tossed the bag into the sidecar, threw on his helmet, and rode off. All this was seen by Zander Wolf, one of the city’s top law enforcement officers, on the display in his police car, stationed 100 meters away from the scene of the crime. Abiding by his duty as an officer of the law, he immediately turned on his siren and raced towards the thief. Modern technology had allowed Zander to activate a gun to launch a tracking device to stick to the thief’s motorcycle. When Zander saw that it had successfully been stuck to the vehicle, he backed off and turned left down another street that led to a junction to a nearby highway. Looking back, the thief saw that he was no longer being followed, but still kept his speed up. He turned down an alleyway as to not be seen by other officers. “If I can just make it to the freeway,” he thought, not knowing he was being tracked, “I’m pretty much home free. Then I can get to work on this thing.” As the thief had planned, after going through a few alleyways, he had reached a street that led to the freeway. Going as fast as his bike could, he merged with the highway and raced on ahead. However, Zander had been idling next to the junction awaiting the thief’s arrival. He had called ahead for a road block for the next exit in order to trap the thief between it and himself. Zander’s vehicle gained on that of the thief’s and the thief looked back in fear seeing as how he had been pursued by Zander this whole time. As he approached the exit he was going for, he saw the roadblock and attempted to get back on the freeway, but to no avail. Zander was capable of greater speed than the thief and was therefore able to catch up to him and block his escape. From his vehicle, two rods shot out that caught the thief’s motorcycle and shut down the engine with an electromagnetic pulse. Zander then began to slow his car to a stop in order to end the chase and arrest the thief. All of a sudden, the thief jumped off of his motorcycle and tried to make a run for it. Luckily for Zander, more of his fellow officers had shown up and surrounded the thief. The thief at this point, stopped running and walked back to Zander’s car with his wrists out in front of him and a look of frustration on his face. Zander stepped out of his vehicle with handcuffs in hand. He stood tall at six feet, three inches wearing his dark blue police uniform compared to the thief who stood at no more than five foot, nine. Without any dialogue between the two, Zander cuffed the thief and escorted him to the back seat of his car, shut the door, settled himself into the driver’s seat, and drove towards the station while a truck took the motorcycle and bag of stolen items.
Episode II - A Minor Setback]“So, Ken,” Zander began, “this isn’t your first offense, now, is it?”“No, I suppose it isn’t,” he playfully replied.“Well then why don’t you shut the funk up and tell me what the hell you’re doing stealing computer parts?”“Gee, wouldn’t you like to know, Pig?”“It’s Wolf, you pathetic scum. Officer Zander Wolf, one of the best and highest ranked officers in our city’s entire unit.”“So,” Ken smirked, “this isn’t going anywhere, is it, Officer Wolf?” Merely minutes earlier, Zander had brought Ken, the thief, in from the previous pursuit. He had found that Ken wasn’t a first-time offender, but had committed a series of similar thefts with about a fifty-fifty record of eluding the police. Zander had brought him into an interrogation room and planned on speaking with Ken himself. He brought Ken into the room and sat down with him and began asking him the general sort of questions, hoping to get at least a lead. However, Ken had been through this before; he would not break so easily. “I’m afraid it isn’t,” Zander sighed as he reached into his coat pocket and took out a deck of cards. “Let me tell you what, Ken. We found that you had a dueling deck. You enjoy dueling, I presume?”“Yes,” Ken replied. “As a matter of fact I do enjoy a card game every now and them.”“Well then,” chuckled Zander as he pulled out a second deck, “have I got a treat for you! I, too, am a duelist.”Ken shot Zander a puzzled look. “Keep talking, Wolf.”“How about if we have ourselves a small duel and we’ll have a little wager: If I win, then you tell me what you know, but if you win, then you are free to go.”“That does sound convenient considering I have no way of paying bail.”“Then it’s decided! We duel! I just have to warn you, kid. I never lose.”“And neither do I, Wolf.”“Then this should be quite the match don’t you think?” The two took their respective decks and began to shuffle. The each set their deck down and drew 5 cards. Zander took out a pen and sheet of paper. He wrote “Ken – 8000” and “Zander – 8000” and then motioned towards Ken. “Since you are the ‘guest’,” Zander began, “you can have the first move.”“Gladly,” Ken replied. He drew one card from his deck and placed it in his hand. He looked at his cards for a few seconds and then began to speak. “You know, Zander, you must take pride in what you do. It truly is remarkable. I’ll set three cards face-down and end my turn.” He then took three cards from his hand, one by one, and lay them face down on the table next to each other. “Go ahead.” “No monsters, eh?” Zander asked. “I’ll draw then.” He eyed his cards and selected one to play. “I’ll start out by summoning Silver Fang in attack position.” He put down the card so that it was vertically oriented facing Ken. “Next, I will tribute my Silver Fang in order to special summon Neo Silver Fang from my hand.” He moved the first card next to his deck and placed another card in front of him in the same manner as when he had played the first card. “Next, I will enter the battle phase and attack you directly with Neo Silver Fang. But first I must tell you his special abilities. First of all, it increases the attack points of all Beast-type monsters I control by 300, including itself, bringing its attack power to 2700. Then, as an added bonus, you are not allowed to activate traps during the battle phase, so that’s 5300 life points for you.” Zander took the pen and reached to cross out the “8000” next to Ken’s name on the paper. “Wait a second!” said Ken as he held up a finger signaling Zander to stop. “I’m not going to activate a trap, but instead I’ll activate the effect of my Kuriboh from my hand.” He picked a card out of his hand and showed it to Zander. “If I discard this guy then I can negate all battle damage I receive this turn.” “I see,” said Zander. “No matter. I will simply set one card face-down and end my turn.” He set a card face-down behind Neo Silver Fang and motioned to Ken. Ken drew a card. “I’ll activate Pot of Greed so I can draw 2 extra cards. So tell me, what do you think of your job?” He drew two cards.“I think it’s great, doing good for society and keeping thieves and murderers off the streets.”“You have no idea what you’re really doing then, do you? ““What do you mean?”Ken ignored Zander’s question and continued, “I’ll activate my face-down card Call of the Haunted so that I can bring my Kuriboh Back, then activate Light Burst so that your Silver Fang is flipped into face-down defense position, then activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your face-down card.”Zander complied with sending his face-down Sakuretsu Armor to the graveyard pile. “Now for the fun part. First, I’ll activate Multiply from my hand so I can tribute my Kuriboh and Special Summon 5 Kuriboh Tokens which have all the same stats as Kuriboh but without its effect.” He took 5 cards out of his pocket that read ‘Token’ and placed them on the table. “Then I activate Yami in order to increase the power of all my tokens by 200. Then I’ll tribute my 5 tokens in order to Special Summon Kuribabylon to the field. It’s attack strength is the total attack power of all monsters tributed to summon it, making its attack power 2500. Then for my final trick, I equip Kuribabylon with Big Bang Shot, bringing its attack to 2900 and giving it the ability to inflict piercing damage.”“Impressive,” Zander remarked.“So I’ll have Kuribabylon attack your face-down wolf.”“I cannot counter,” sighed Zander eying the cards in his hand.“Fine, bring your life points down to 6700, please.”Zander took the pen and crossed the “8000” off next to his name and wrote “6700.” “A minor setback,” Zander grunted.“Your move, Wolf,” Ken smirked.
Episode III - The Luck of the Draw]“Oh, look at me! I went and depleted my hand! How unfortunate!” said Ken with a sarcastic laugh. “So does this mean that he uses a handless strategy?” thought Zander. He was getting nervous now. So far Ken was able to negate life point damage and resist an attack from one of his most powerful monsters as well as bring out one that had even greater strength. All Zander knew was that he could not lose a match to this child or it could quite possibly result in a demotion. “Well since he relies on having no hand I’d better give him one,” he thought as he drew his next card. He looked to Ken. “So what do you mean I have no idea what I am really doing?” “Well,” he began, “seeing as how your patrol time is this late at night, you probably don’t see most of what goes on during the day. Now, are you going to make your move?” “Gladly,” he almost shouted at Ken. “I’ll first activate the spell card Diplomatic Agreement! This forces each of us to draw one card.” “Ah! Thank you! This makes things so much easier for me!” “What do you mean? You don’t have a handless combo?” “Of course I don’t, Wolf! Do you know how difficult it is to have that? Or how few those cards are that work like that? Don’t be ridiculous. Anyway, continue, please?” Zander was caught off guard by this comment. This bluff had made him nervous, and now that he fell for the bluff, he was even more frustrated. “You know what? Forget it! I can take you out either way! Once I activate this equip spell to give to your monster. It’s called The Best Defense.” “Haven’t seen that one before,” said an intrigued Ken. “Mind explaining what it does?” “Well, you know that expression, ‘the best defense is a good offense?’ This equip spell increases the equipped monster’s attack points by its original defense points; raising your Kuribabylon’s attack strength to 3900.” “That’s just what you need, a monster to attack with more attack points.” “Oh, I don’t plan to attack it. You see as an added bonus, your monster’s defense becomes zero, allowing me to use a handy monster effect. I’ll summon Pursuit Hound to the field and then activate its special ability, which allows me to remove it from play and one other monster on the field whose defense is lower than its attack. Its attack strength is only 900, but seeing as how your Kuribabylon now has zero defense points, I can take that card out of play.” Zander moved his Pursuit Hound card out of play and Ken did the same with his Kuribabylon. “Are you quite finished?” asked Ken. “Not a chance. I still have two cards left to play with and I think I’ll do that. I’ll activate the spell card Double Summon so that I can normal summon Rescue Dog from my hand. Next, I’ll activate its ability to special summon a level four or lower monster from my graveyard, so I’ll bring back Silver Fang. Next, I’ll have both of them attack you directly for a grand total of 2400 damage to your life points.” Zander reached over towards the pen. “Not so fast, Wolf,” Ken quickly shouted. “You forgot that you made me draw one card and that I use a Kuriboh deck. So for that I’ll discard this Coston Kuriboh from my hand to negate the attack of one of your monsters. And as an added bonus, during my next turn, I can special summon it.” “Fine,” growled Zander. He crossed off the ‘8000’ next to ‘Ken’ and wrote in ‘6800.’ “I guess you go again, then.” Ken drew a card. “So first I’ll special summon my Coston Kuriboh from the graveyard.” He took the card out of the discard pile and placed it on the field. Then he put the card down from his hand behind the Kuriboh card face-up. It was an Axe of Despair equip spell. “I’ll equip Axe of Despair to Coston Kuriboh, bringing its attack strength higher than that of your monsters. So I’ll attack Silver Fang with my powered up Coston Kuriboh, giving you 100 damage and after that I will end my turn.” Zander moved his Silver Fang to the graveyard and changed the written amount life points accordingly. “Oh wait,” he said. “Some good news for you. Your Kuribabylon and my Pursuit Hound are both shuffled to our decks from out of play.” Both Zander and Ken took their respective out-of-play cards and shuffled them into their decks. “Now then, I’ll continue.” He drew a card and chuckled a little. “I find it interesting that both of us have emptied our hands and now solely rely on the luck of the draw to get what we need. And just now, I got pretty lucky. I’ll summon the tuner monster Doom Wolf and tune it to my Rescue Dog to synchro summon one of my personal favorites called Wolfzein Doom.” He showed Ken his tuner monster, then moved it and his Rescue Dog to the graveyard. He pulled out a card from his jacket pocket. It showed a vicious looking werewolf-like creature in the picture. The card also had no level stars. “You see, its level is equal to the combined levels of the monsters used to summon it and its attack and defense strength is dependent on its level. So it is now a level five monster with 1000 attack and defense points. Now for its other ability.” Zander took a six sided die out of his pocket and rolled it. The die landed on six. “I roll this die every turn and it will determine my card’s ability. So just now I rolled a six, so it can attack directly, can’t be destroyed by battle, and I don’t take damage if it’s attacked. Also, when it inflcts 1000 or less damage, you discard the top card of your deck, so say goodbye to a bunch of stuff.” Zander crossed off Ken’s life points and wrote ‘5800’. “Good move, Wolf,” Zander said as he discarded the top card of his deck. “So tell me,” Zander said, “you say I would see something different during the day?” “That’s quite right,” Ken replied. “I am one hundred percent certain of it. In fact, after you lose this match, and your boss gets pissed off at you, ask him to have your shift changed immediately to one during the day. But for now, I’ll start with my turn. Since you were nice enough to return my Kuribabylon, I think I’ll tribute my Coston Kuriboh to special summon it. Then, I’ll pay 1000 life points to place Axe of Despair back on top of my deck. Next, Coston Kuriboh’s effect allows me to draw a card since I tribute it for a special summon.” “Ah, crap, I was waiting for this,” Zander said with a tone of frustration. “Oh, it gets better!” Ken was excited now. “I can tribute Kuribabylon to Special Summon Coston Kuriboh from my graveyard along with 4 Kuriboh tokens. Then tribute all of them to summon Kuribabylon again for a simple 200 point boost. Now, since I was able to use Coston Kuriboh in place of Kuriboh, I can draw yet another card.” He drew a card. “Now I’ll equip Kuribabylon with the Axe of Despair you know I have, but because of your monster’s ability, attacking would be useless at this point, I’ll just end it there.”
