Dark
Sounds like a thread title DoP would have, considering you have no fucking clue what this thread is about. I might spell some things wrong, mostly because I'm not entirely sure HOW to spell them. I was watching a news report literally 10 minutes ago (I forgot the news channel, but it's a recent affair so you can check up on your news channel or Google it) about how some Evangelical Church went to Uganda, a country in Africa. One of the church officials gave a speech and set up a 'workshop' on anti-gay policies and whatnot. You know, gays are bad, buttsecks spreads AIDS, the normal bullshit you'd hear from a church. And now the country is deliberating whether they should implement a prison sentence or even a death penalty against homosexuals. And, of course, you'd go to jail if you were a parent and didn't turn in your homosexual child to the government. Basically, this is more bullshit from churches trying to better peoples lives but making them worse. I mean, just the other month, you have Christian people stealing kids from Haiti. Like, wtf mate? So, discuss.
Great Unclean One: VK
Once again, the Christian church is still blindly believing the harm their causing it saving people's lives and souls. Bunch of Butter Scotch. Of course, I guess me, my friends, and other Yaoi fanatics can't go to the said country.
Dark
I don't know much about Uganda, but considering it is in Africa (not being racist), it prolly has an unstable and/or corrupt government, so you wouldn't really wanna go there. Infinitus
TBH, I tolerate others as a Catholic. I believe that, well, others will be who they are, and they are who they are. Mainly because, things like that could happen, where they overreact. Besides, I think that it is these things that changed in the past 2000 years since Jesus lived. So, it is something that I choose to tolerate, that times change, and that the world has entirely different circumstances since Jesus lived. Yayz for cultural tolerance. =D
EliminateHRN
I'm a Christian, but this is why I never go to church. To much bullshit. And, no, religion should not be banned. Only the over-religious assholes should be put to rest.
LiAM
Catholics contributed a lot to society anyway, charity, NHS etc. But they go too far on telling other people how they should live towards a non-existent being that kills and banishes people etc. I wont go into it, cos it'll just cause argument, but alotta atheists know what I mean. Infinitus
Matter of fact, Christians and Catholics have managed to make a few scientifical discoveries and contributions. I think a Christian developed the scientific method. I can't remember. However, some people go overboard, and instead of first using their empathy, and try to put themselves in another's position, they immediately skip to the condemn and "YOU IZ WRONG AND GOIN' TO HELL" part. What these people did wasn't necessarily was wrong, because they were simply teaching about their faith in another country, it's not like they were condemning people and shoving their opinions down their throats, but rather just preaching. Lazer Yoshi
I'm a proud Christain, but I'm going to let others decide their lifestyle. These kind of people give us a bad name. We don't go around telling others to do exactly as we. Well, most of us, anyways.

We don't go around telling others to do exactly as we. Well, most of us, anyways.[/quote'] To you, noted Atheist Penn Jillete has to say: "If you believe that there's a Heaven and Hell, and people could be going to Hell, or not getting eternal life, or whatever, and you think that, 'Well it's not really worth telling them this because it would make it socially awkward...' How much do you have to hate somebody to believe that everlasting life is possible and not tell them that? I mean if I believed beyond a shadow of a doubt that a truck was coming at you, and you didn't believe it, and that truck was bearing down on you, there is a certain point where I tackle you- and this is more important than that." From you description, Dark, the church did not tell the government to throw homosexuals in jail, that was something they decided after hearing what the priest or whatever had to say. I'm not saying that's right, but I'm saying that's what it sounds like. I do like how people love to throw blame on religion. I've even seen people claim that "without religion, there would be no war". Bullshit. Plenty of people use religion as a shield to hide behind, an excuse to release their hatred. While convenient, if you removed it, they would simply find another way to spew their hate and intolerance. Religion is not the problem, people are. Closing note- I would also like to point out that Christian organizations are responsible for a good amount of charity work.

CrabHelmet
I am tolerant of religions; however, my definition of "tolerant" does not extend to "supporting the notion that the minority should not be legally prohibited from engaging in activities harmless to others if a majority decides that their idea of freedom requires the freedom to make this a country in which People Like You don't have freedom". That was rather less coherent than I had hoped, but it gets the job done.

And since babies haven't sinned yet, we should kill them all so they will never sin and will thus all go to heaven. Sure, it may require mass murder of babies, but when their souls are at stake and the next world is considered infinitely more important than this world, what other possible conclusion can there be? From you description' date=' Dark, the church did not tell the government to throw homosexuals in jail, that was something they decided after hearing what the priest or whatever had to say. I'm not saying that's right, but I'm saying that's what it sounds like.[/quote'] Sounds like the same thing to me. If the priest comes along and say that homosexuals are evil monsters who will corrupt the nation and spread disease and turn everyone into soulless, immoral demons and lead to the death of everyone on the continent, and the government actually believes the priest's lies, then the only reasonable thing for the government to do is to lock the homosexuals away and perhaps execute them for good measure. This is exactly what the priest's argument entails, and the priest is demonstrably the cause of this effect. What alternative explanation is there? Was the priest just kidding about what he said, and the government at fault for thinking he actually believed the filth he was spewing?
