CrabHelmet
Here's a link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/17/AR2010031700560.html And for those of you who don't want to read the article, here's a summary: the Texas education chaps decide the standards for textbooks used by schools in Texas, and Texas buys in such large quantities that their textbooks end up being used by everyone else in the nation. Sadly, the Texas education chaps consist primarily of Lawful Stupid Evil ultra-conservative lunatics, which has produced some rather interesting horrifying changes to the curriculum: Remember Thomas Jefferson? He was a big chap behind separation of church and state, he saved the country as president after the disastrous Federalists' administration under John Adams, and he wrote the bloody Declaration of Independence. Texas has decided to teach that he wasn't terribly important in American history. Why? Because he was a big chap behind separation of church and state, and...It has been decided that the Most Definitely True History Textbooks must teach that America was, is, and has always been a Christian nation under the One True God and Jesus Christ Himself and has expanded through God's Divine Will to spread Christianity, which is synonymous with America itself. Separation of church and state? We're pretending that doesn't exist. Also, all the founders were Christian, and anyone who says otherwise is probably a Liberal Communist who isn't as fair and balanced as the heroes at Fox News. And speaking of Communists...The Real True Truth is that the government was taken over by Communists during the Cold War and Joseph McCarthy, far from being a glory-hungry witch-hunting madman, was a visionary hero and right all along. Don't listen when the historians say this is provably false; they're probably Communists too. Also, while the fact that America won the Cold War, which one would think would be difficult if one's government were taken over by the opposition, might make the feeble-minded think that this is just another insane conspiracy theory spouted by insane liars, there is very strong evidence of Communism in the form of...The Civil Rights Movement. Textbooks will be compelled to note critically that the Civil Rights legislation had many "unintended consequences". I don't know what those "unintended consequences" might be, so I suppose I'll make a few guesses: it created an evil liberal moral relativist home-wrecking family-destroying mentality that women might just possibly have roles outside of the kitchen, and it stopped our glorious Real True American Racists For Jesus from exercising their God-given right to discriminate against the Inferior Races, just as happened a hundred years before in...The Civil War. It has been decided that the Confederate States of America must be portrayed in a more positive light than they traditionally are. After all, it was a major tragedy that the evil Oppressive Northern Imperialist Villains of Evil ruined democracy by denying the Confederate Heroes' their God-given right to enslave an entire race and continent of human beings, and we must honour the good, holy, perfect principles for which the Confederacy stood before it was martyred.Oh, by the way, Ronald Reagan was the Second Coming of Jesus and he should be given more worship. It would be historically inaccurate not to note that Republican economic policy is the One True Truth.Ladies and gentlemen who live in America: This is your democracy in action, and these are the principles that will be taught in your schools' history textbooks in a couple of years if these madmen are not stopped. How do you like the face of the future?
ZeroLuneth
I remember reading about this a couple days ago and was happy that I didn't have to worry about it because I graduate this year and I don't have any classes that require a textbook. But for all the other people, I got nothing except for good luck.

How do you like the face of the future? the Texas school board can go and funk themselves. They need to be locked and made some serial killer's bit** because the 1st amendment says Freedom of Religion and Separation of church and state is in the constitution. I'd love to just beat these school board people with a brick stick. I believe anything mentioning religion things like jesus in things like anthems, pledges of allegiance, and our own cash should NOT have that mentioned. CrabHelmet
I remember reading about this a couple days ago and was happy that I didn't have to worry about it because I graduate this year and I don't have any classes that require a textbook. But for all the other people' date=' I got nothing except for good luck.[/quote'] Oh, you have plenty to worry about. You see, the people indoctrinated into the lies contained in these textbooks will still have voting rights, and with this campaign of misinformation and conservative indoctrination, they will be voting for the Republicans and believing their nonsense. Unless you're an absurdly rich white straight Christian, that's plenty for you to worry about.
