Now let's have a nice talk about religion

No debating, no converting, no bragging, no insulting another religion and no mentioning of why I made this. I made it so we can learn about other religions. Know what their beliefs are, etc.

I'm Christian(surprisingly). I have very strict values with it though. I believe in separation of church and state so that includes schools as well. I personally believe that among the dress code. Anything religious shouldn't be allowed to be worn. Anyway back to Christianity I haven't read the bible because my parents are Atheist so I can't so I don't know much about my religion except for what tv says. So if I say something wrong. Remember I got all my info from the history channel.

It is impossible to have a sensible discussion about religion on YCM. I'm Atheist.

And I have a friend like you and I'm willing to accept your beliefs.

The belief that it's impossible to have a sensible discussion about religion on YCM?

Can one really be accepting of ones belief system when it contradicts there own though?

Think about this: In the christian religion. All non believers go to hell and all believers who walk a straight righteous line go to heaven.

But doesn't the bible say you must force your ways onto the non believers and make them see the one true salvation. then every christian who has ever been tolerant of anther mans faith is a hypocrite.

I'm not sure what I am... o_O

I mean, my family came from Missionaries and Royalty (both Hawaiian and Philipine) and I adopted beliefs from all sides. While I don't believe in a god, I do believe it is perfectly healthy to believe in one. Really complicated mess for where I stand xD. Ask away and I'll answer and maybe we'll find out.

(This topic is looking sensible, don't ruin it like last time people).

Some Atheists don't even believe in what has already been proven to exist. I quote those idiots who believe the holocaust never happened and the flat earth society.

The truth is people is that nothing in this world can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt because our perception of our own reality is one sided.

I'm atheist, but I'm willing to tolerate other people's opinions as long as they aren't too stupid. Like, "oh, since our founding fathers were Christian, let's NOT seperate the church and the state".

They weren't Christian, and in our Constitution it says we were not founded as a Catholic/Christian organization.

Also, I haven't read the bible because my parents are Atheist so I can't so I don't know much about my religion.

I call bullshit on that. Atheists are more accepting of people's beliefs more than any other 'religion' (atheism isn't a religion). We don't blow ourselves up because somebody isn't atheist, nor do we go into other countries and try to abolish religion. As long as religion doesn't affect our lives, we could care less. And I don't care if your parents are atheist, I highly doubt they refused the right to you reading the Bible. Proof or it didn't happen.

Why should I have proof? That is your sole opinion that a majority of atheists don't blow up religions and whatnot. you know the stereotypical Christian parents forcing their beliefs on their children right? My parents are like that but atheist. Everyone has their own opinions on many things. What is your definition of "read a book" Mine is read it all the way. Is yours that way? Possibly. My friend Rachel is atheist and back in school she mouthed off our Spanish teacher for requiring us to participate in a Christmas party for the teachers. Now when our schools have a religious holiday coming up that involves homework and parties. Those of different religions are allowed to "alter" the homework assignment so it works with their religion. I can link you to a site that had a atheist troll which happens to be that same exact friend. Sh trolled so many Christian threads that she was considered ignorant.

Public schools, by law, cannot make you do anything religious. Even if the work is as simple as a Christmas Crossword.

Anyway, I don't belong to any groups. I don't believe in God, or any other higher diety. But I'm not against them. I don't frown upon anyone for believing in them either. In my eyes, they're imaginary friends. Those higher dieties serve the same purpose as them. I don't bash on religions, I'd just prefer for them to leave me alone and not exist at all. But when someone tries to force a religion on me, or some religious stuffs, I provide scientific facts as to why it doesn't exist or not possible.

You need proof because I don't believe your bullshit story about unaccepting atheist parents. If anything, atheists are the most open towards new ideas, because they had to 'convert' from one religion to atheism (unless you were born an atheist, lulz).

And the internet is complete bullshit and should not be associated with real life. I trolled so many religious people, but irl I'm not ignorant at all. :/

This also applies to me, or at least in terms of my ideaology. The problem is that, don't you get pissed when religious people refuse to believe scientific fact? Or when they attempt to change your education by teaching (micro)evolution as an opinion?

I think it's hilarious that the only hostility in this thread is the byproduct of trying to prevent hostility on YCM.

Anyway, I'm christian, but I follow my own interpretation of the bible and don't believe I need a man in a robe to tell me what the book means, nor do I believe in the concept of different sects of the same religion.

Actually, we've spun this thread way out of proportion. It was supposed to be a thread where you 'share' what your religion and idealogical beliefs are. But it's hilarious that this wasn't locked by Icy. Since he has his views that all religious threads lead to flaming, and this was no exception. Sure, it started out okay. But it lit on fire pretty easily, now didn't it? I agree that religious threads should be locked because of flaming, but he was stupid in this instance for not seeing that this would become a generic religious thread.
